Ultra Street Fighter IV

JLM

I have just uploaded my first Russian Replay. It's not great, but I will be uploading every time I get the chance with Gief in the hope that the quality will improve over time. In the first round I was recklessly going for tick SPD set ups and watching him neutral jump. I find that if I want to "represent" SPD as Seth Killian would say, better to do it when they don't have meter yet. In the sexond round I fucked up Instant Air Blizzard yet again and got EX bear grab, but the guy inexplicably got hit by it. Huzzah.

I'm happy with my spacing towards the end where I make him whiff a crouching MK and a sweep and close in to green hand him to death, but I should be grabbing whiffed normals against Ryu, and I should never let him get away with a blocked sweep because that thing is incredibly unsafe.

I love reading your post JLM!

One question though, if you had a solid read he was going to do wake-up something why not just block? Or was you just going for the flashy win?

I'm pretty sure JLM is always going for the flashy win.

There's nothing more satisfying that landing a Blizzard from a good read. Oh man.

I too enjoyed reading all the words. I want to get an entirely new internet in and have a first-to-fifty against jellum.

Also, Meerman, I've found that twisty-dpad controller to be pretty good! If you'd benefit from having another all-purpose 360 controller then I'd really recommend it. It's £30 from Tesco (might be cheaper elsewhere, I just know this 'cos I saw it in store):

If it is just for fighting games, then the madcatz fightpad probably is better. And likely much cheaper too (I know the HMV in glasgow still has a bunch of PS3 ones for £12; not seen an xbox 360 one in a while, but I haven't been looking).

I've only tested them on Street Fighter 4 though, which is pretty forgiving of sloppy inputs (I think even the standard, horrible 360 dpad is good enough for it). Games like King of Fighters or 3rd Strike are that little bit stricter might be better suited to the madcatz one. Which also has the additional benefit of six face buttons.

tl;dr: Get both.

I love reading JLM's post too. Easy to do when he's so absorbed in fighting games you can just stroll right in there and take it.

:D

Do you take notes or something?

I'd like to know this too. Also, remembering how to use more than say, 3 characters is completely beyond me. Is it an age thing?

Also, also, in my first ever match against must (dan v rose) I finished the final round with cr.mk x fireball x post ko super taunt. Which is the first time I have EVER pulled it off in a match. I was leaping around the room like a madman.

This is an excellent thing.

ggs to Pockets, MysteryTattie, Hagrid, Joffro Tull and JLS last nights. Too much lag at times and I ate a lots of smacks to the head while taunting at the start of rounds - are people fed up with that? Apologies if so. Is it too SSFIV:AE? Too 2011 maybe? In 2012 do we just kick fuck out of each other and to hell with chivalry? :massive winker:

I think I displayed the worst T-Hawk ever to grace an rllmuk lobby - I couldn't remember how to Condor Dive or anything so I tried to look it up on my phone mid-match. After lots of fun games I had to go training to make sure I could still combo cos it wasn't happening for me in Endless.

Nice to play Pockets and MrEPotato - haven't played Pockets in ages and think it was my first time vs. MrE's tricky Sagat.

I have been known to accidentally on purpose ultra people when they're taunting. I also like the absolute refusal to ever punish whiffed ultras, with everyone just taunting instead. I also like that people keep insisting on walking into viper's wild firey ultra somersault after blocking the initial ground pound. I hope that this is a new lobby thing.

I dislike the guile vs adon matchup intensely. Although I am kind of enjoying playing a violently lame guile every now and then.

Also sorry for misspelling mute's name in that post about the super taunt (which is a saved replay now, haha).

I like it when I play with randoms and they open with taunts - sometimes it's hard to know if it's done in jest, especially with someone as SERIOUS BZNZ as Ryu or Akuma, but with others it's like an informal greeting. :D I also like how Plopboy will sacrifice any lead or advantage if it means he can get several dozen taunts in throughout the match. :P

Guile was Julian "Jazz" Rignall's favourite character in SF2. Surely that is still worth something.

Oh god, I have memories of a Street Fighter II VHS that came free with a magazine. It had Guile's re-dizzy combo on it and the two guys talking really really liked Guile. I can't remember if that was Rignall.

Also I like my Guile like I like my women: ones who charge.
