Ultra Street Fighter IV

JLM

Recommended Posts

Managed to get that replay saved where I did legendary taunt, they did a recovery Ryu ultra 1 and I ultra through the ultra. Ultra 2 as well; I'm surprised the reduced invincibility still saw me get through clean; I've been hit out of that so many times.

I also got beaten by a Yun this morning. He seemed to spend much of the match fishing for cr.mp to connect? then dive kicking and coming in with more. And of course full screen palms followed by EX Lunge Punch. It's difficult to SRK those on reaction. I've still not played a good Yun though, outside of Imp juggling me for eternity one time. I think he'd still be doing it if he had infinite meter.

I rematched him and in the final dizzied him over in the right corner before I'd taken a hit, jumped in with hp, hp x KRK FADC cr.taunt and he hesitated before attempting his cr.mp, so my shamelessly mashed KRK beat it clean. FADC crouching taunt perfect! That made me happy.

I lost nearly every match ever last night though.

So I was told the other day that Daigo doesn't have to play in pools. Any way of verifying this? And does it apply to anyone else?

Also, I expect producivity to drop off sharply at 4pm. God I'm excited. I have so much work to do this weekend as well, my wife is going to kill me.

THIS WEEKEND.

I just played some amazing nocturnal fighter. I've been on this from 4AM until now. Mixing between ranked and endless and then, well.... I fought a guy in ranked as Chun and narrowly beat his Ken in the third round. Since it was about 5:30AM and there were few opponents about I asked if he had time for a few games. We then played 74 matches. Firstly a selection of mains/semi-mains but for the vast majority it was mutual random select. So much fun, and I love the guy even more because the set ended 60-14 in my favour and he didn't care at all. No switching back to his main or quitting, just ploughing on with random select.

Loads of fun highlights, but my personal favourites were ticking things off my Gouken labwork checklist:

Jumping MK - > stand fierce - > EX palm into the corner - > fierce fireball - > jab fireball - > jab palm - > Denjin. It does somewhere between 600-700 stun and is beautiful.

Also tried out these variants on the end for shenanigans.

Jumping MK - > stand fierce - > EX palm into the corner - > fierce fireball - > jab fireball - > sweep for the hard knockdown.

Jumping MK - > stand fierce - > EX palm into the corner - > fierce fireball - > jab fireball - > crouching fierce reset cancelled into happy flip.

Jumping MK - > stand fierce - > EX palm into the corner - > fierce fireball - > jab fireball - > crouching fierce reset followed by EX parry/throw/ tick throw/overhead/the power of NOTHING.

Oh, and these combos:

EX palm - > dash up sweep for the hard knockdown.Trickier to do than the usual enders because it's "dash, walk a tiny bit, sweep" and that distance in the middle isn't always easy to judge. However, the hard knockdown and the chance for one more mix up is a good alternative to the palm and dash up tatsu enders.

Close standing medium punch - > sweep

Close standing medium punch - > crouching MP - > roundhouse tatsu.

Close standing medium punch - > jab fireball - > FADC - > sweep/another close standing MP/tatsu/ dash up throw etc.

Close standing MP is ridiculous. So much hit stun, and if you get a counter hit those combos are very easy indeed to confirm.

AE Gouken is just as much fun as I'd hoped he would be.

I've not heard much about new Dudley science since AE... hasn't EX duck added much? I know I saw one wee combo where a man triple-juggled someone with EX duck.

EX Duck is impatient duck: "quick quick quick!".

EDIT: I saw you in that lobby this morning Jason sir, and was tempted to disturb you and force you to watch my nonsense.

How does the new My Channel Advanced thing work? For some reason I thought we'd be able to send people replays we wanted them to see. Do I just open the lobby and tell you to search for me?

Also, If I select, say, 5 replays... will they loop? How does the game decide the order? I'm thinking of making some of the tauntiest matches ever and leaving a replay channel of them open.

EX duck is good, both for combos and for the invincibility, and nerfs like the Ryu cr. MK will be good for him, but I think Dudley is still hovering around middle to lower middle tier because not only can a lot of characters keep him out all day, but he also doesn't respond that well to rushdown or grapplers without taking big risks with EX upppercut and cross counter. Focusing with the bravery of a Marn or a Joffo is pretty much the only way he can survive in a lot of match-ups because standing fierce is still his only real poke. He's commonly referred to as "Zangief with combos", and I think that's another reason he isn't popular. Dudley has to work about as hard as Gief to get his opportunity against a lot of characters, then when he does he must create a flawless sequence of combos, mix ups and pressure until the opponent is dizzy. Similar to Abel except more difficult because you don't have the threat of a command grab. Compare that with how much damage a grappler can do from just one successful mix-up and it seems like Dudley is just too much hard work for little reward. I still wish more people would though. Marn's Dudley was just the greatest.

Dan being at a disadvantage when dashing forward after a lvl 1 focus attack ON HIT has meant I've learned to backdash finally. I think maybe my Fei Long will be a lot better because of this. I will still dash forward as Dhalsim.

I really thought Dudley would be a powerhouse now, especially with all the horrible confusing frame-trap block strings he can trap you in. Not that it would stop mashy grapplers. Is Ex/normal short swing blow safe from a grappler on block?

Yea I think there is potential to literally do 4 ex straights in a row. Apparently does plenty stun too.

I read someone where that you can cancel the EX dash within 3 frames, not sure it that's true...Also think it can be cancelled by doing normal moves too, so you can ex dash into LP pressure very quickly.

Don't quote me on this tho.

I don't think it helps his game too much as Dudley's main problems of shit footies and inability to get in are still present. Just means when he does get in he's more dangerous

Of course Daigo is playing in pools, the outcry be massive if he wasn't,

Rumor is he's using anti Yun technology and bringing Hakan the oily rapist as his main.

Apparently it's a condition of him turning up to lesser tournaments. Doubt it applies to Evo though which is why I asked.

From what I read on a japan gaming site he plays in pools like anyone else, so I don't get the rumor at all and if anything sounds like a smear.

So I just had a series of games with BBWF TY, the number 11 Bipson. It's a winning match-up for Chun but I always lose to this guy. So he's fight requested and beaten me twice this morning, but each time I gleaned little bits of information. I also noted that during the losses I showed him waaaay too much respect, particularly early in the match where he has no meter and is Chun's bitch. He challenged me to a third game, and by the end of that I could bait full screen EX psycho crushers out of him and was able to pull out a win.

My moment was soured a bit when, on heading to the replay channel like an excited little man, I got a message from BBWF TY saying "lol replay". Busted. :(

Also, also, Hegg's replay against that Akuma player is outstanding.. The second round is the best war for space control ever. The Akuma player pushes Hegg all the way to the far right corner of the stage and tries to get a deadly corner vortex going that had already won him the first round. Hegg then proceeds to claw back every inch of ground possible and the round ends with Hegg reacting to his cornered opponent's panic jump back in the far left hand corner of the stage. It is beautiful. Some superb reaction crouching fierces from Hegg when he sniffed out the resets too.

The Akuma player will be kicking himself for a couple of occasions where he auto-piloted back into his vortex when he could have gone for the kill, but players who do that are my favourite kind of players. In fact, my current Sakura replay has me resetting a guy on two occasions where a simple combo ender would have killed him. Heheh.

But yeah, Hegg vs BBW Legend. I urge you all to watch it before it gets replaced.

Lads what are your top 3 street fighter 'moves'? Mine are as follows:

1. Dan's cr.mp. A good, no-nonsense, punch to the balls.

2. Mike Bison's headstop. He leaps majestically into the air like a salmon, steps on a fools head, and then gallantly jumps off again, all the time maintaining the most magnificent smile in all of videogames.

3. Edmond 'Ed' Honda's One Hundred Hand Slap Technique: A fat man slapping his opponent hilariously fast with his wildly meaty hands is a beautiful and heartwarming thing to see.

1. Rufus' crouching medium punch. The laziest and most excellently obese of all anti-air moves.

2. Rufus' Space Opera Symphony: The wobbly belly as he shouts "GOODBYE!"

3. Rufus' Big Bang Typhoon: the forth-wall breaking cold, dead unbroken stare out to the player as he spins before announcing "I'M SEXY!".

Where did you find that? Is it one I saved?

I'll have to have a dig around my replay list and look for it. I recall BBW Legend being super good and a guy I tend to shy away from! :)

It's an uploaded ranked match. If you go to the PP leaderboard and sort by friends, it's the one listed for you there.

Ooh. I've not done that for replays yet. I've not really rummaged around properly at all. Any tips on how to get the best out of AE's new way of doing things, replay wise?

I wonder how 3rd Strike Online's replay thing will work. I hope I can save matches and name replays I've saved while I'm still in a lobby, spectating or whatever.

1. Seth's step kicks. Love doing this off other moves and games using Seth have now become a vehicle for me trying to find ways of landing his stomps.

2. Dhalsim's jumping mp for the hilarity of politely knocking someone out of the air with it. Total mindfuck attack. It was a close call between that and his knee anti-air that would beat out a jump in from Satan himself.

3. Ken's Third Strike target combo (st.mp xx st.hp) into a DP or his Super. Oh, it's lovely landing that.

I've got a few people I follow but barely use it tbh - instead I go into the leaderboards, and pick the ones that look the most interesting (i.e. no Ryu, no twins) and watch them. Then I change the filter from Top to Friends and see who's got some new savagery uploaded.

And yet, bizarrely unsatisfying when comboed into Tatsu. Weird, that.

And I'll see your super cancel and raise you a cancel into fireball, cancelled into super. Ideally in the corner with U1 tagged on the end.

Other favourites are the Dhalsim knee I can't help but jump in on, Sakura's open-mouthed-smile crouching fierce, and I love Akuma's crouching fierce too.

Excellent. I use the follow thing, but I rarely get any new replays. I'm following JLM and Hegg at the very least, and three others from here. I remember getting a few pretty excellent Dee Jay efforts from Hegg and watching JLM's ridiculous double perfect. I think I got a new Sakura one from Jason as well but I didn't watch it yet.

I quite like the follow feature, it's just a bit limited. I wish it also shared the person you're followings comments on the match, if they'd chosen to add some.

I also don't like that I upload really clumsy efforts of my own.

How do you sort by friends on the leaderboards? I had a quick look last night and I'm ashamed to say I was quite baffled by the whole thing.

Favourite moves:

Dhalsim's Super. So much damage and so easy from an air HP.

Dhalsim's teleport. Oh the mindfuckery.

Bison's Ultra 1. Still the most aesthetically pleasing Ultra in the game. "This place shall become your grave!"
