it took all evening last night, but finally caught up. if this really is the end of street fighter 4, i cant imagine it going out any higher. the entire thing was amazing.

loved the fact that there was so much diverse character representation, my faves viper and makoto doing ok, and nowhere near the elena-fest i think most people worried about

and of course daigo being there at the end seemed entirely fitting. i never expected him to win going into it, but as it progressed and more big names dropped out i started to think it was possible. but kazonoko was too great.

Yeah it was a magnificent event. Keoma did so much work, what an exciting player he is. Was really hoping Daigo would pull out the reset against Kaz. You could see him getting better and figuring it out as it went on. I feel like if they FT10'd now it would be very close indeed. Kazunoko is a monster though. What always strikes me about him is that he is impossible to condition. After an air to air reset he will uppercut, eat a 50% damage punish and then still do it the next time. Then he won't for the next three turns of the same situation, but you still think he might. Looks an absolute nightmare to fight against.

I've been arguing this whole version that Yun isn't top 5, and then this happens. Kazunoko is a complete beast, and nobody else comes even close to using the character as well. Yun is an incredibly hard character to use to his full potential, with a staggering amount of character specific stuff, and Kazunoko has it ALL along with an incredible mental game.

The way he absolutely obliterated Daigo in their first meeting was ridiculous considering how flawlessly the Beaast had been playing until that point.

My top 3 is Evil Ryu/Seth/Yun at the moment. I agree that it's really tough to get full potential out of Yun, but in the right hands he has just about everything. It's largely the command grab that swings it for me. Cammy, for example, has similarly potent offense, an uppercut and arguably an equally strong or stronger neutral/approach game, but with Yun he has all of that and can also perform un-techable tick grabs into a full combo. He's such a handful to deal with and makes blocking the only real option for long periods of the match, but then Tenshin means blocking is also not the right choice. For that to be the case you need to have excellent reads and, as is the case with Kazunoko, a first rate understanding of risk/reward, but a tier/match-up list should surely represent the character being played at their full potential. Having that feel for risk/reward can mitigate one of his bigger weaknesses, which is a non-FADCable uppercut. That said, he does *have* an uppercut, and one that at least does its job without meter.

I think that's another big part of what scuppers some of the other characters who are candidates for top 10-15 but aren't quite top 3. Having a meterless reversal that beats both throws and strikes on top of all of your other options is massively important, and this is where other strong characters slightly fall down. I think this is the case for Abel, Elena, Rose, Decapre etc. Without meter they don't have a universal "get off me" option so when things aren't going their way they can come unstuck. Obviously Rolento is another one of those, even moreso in his case, which is why even someone as good as Nemo can always be vulnerable to someone absolutely murdering him before he gets a chance to do the same to them. With Yun, his offense is absolutely ludicrous, equally able to punish you for blocking and for not blocking, but crucially when it's your turn you still have to keep in mind he can blow through your pressure. Again, you need to have Kaz-esque risk/reward and ultimately a gigantic set of balls, but he does have the option and the fact that only one player is able to fully harness it doesn't diminish that in my opinion.

I think Yun's normals and ground game are underrated too. His walk speed is great, low forward is stubby but can lead into red focus, the jabs are ridiculous, standing and crouching medium punch are both outstanding and then standing MK and standing roundhouse are surprisingly effective in matches that have typically been considered losing ones for him, like vs. Grapplers. I honestly think if he loses to Gief it's by a narrow margin. Oh, and the overhead is really good too.

Technically neither does Yun

Love all the Elena salt in those Excellent Adventures episodes. "Hands down" the best character in the game and yet Capcom Cup was not the greatest day out for her. It was hilariously perfect timing when that Elena player had the pass through glitch happen and V-reversaled out of the corner (twice!) just when they were at the height of complaining about her broken-ness, Good stuff.
