Mobile. The website does not work (no support for Flash or whatever) and the app does not support archives. Just watched the Marvel Top 4 on the youtubes. Now looking for the Ultra one, avoiding spoilertastic titles of videos.

I still care about Marvel.

Especially when the best three players are the three who make it to top 3. They've been so much better than pretty much everyone (Combofiend probably the only other person I'd have put up there if he'd kept playing) and I spent way longer than necessary explaining why and how to Imp. Then he went and slept through the finals in the end anyway! Anyway yes, it was a dream top 3 and I didn't want anyone to lose.

Pixelbark: it worked, didn't it? :-)

Technical Question (don't read until you've read all the evo coverage etc)

So Luffy uses a PSONE controller?

How does that work because surely an adapter would create some kind of input lag?

I'd be interested in trying it out for myself as i can never get on properly with a fightstick no matter how many times i try,

I think any input lag caused by an adapter would be minimal at best, I doubt it's a highly complex piece of circuitry or anything. Certainly not going to be anything like the lag you get between button pushes > screen action. I mean compare using a wireless xbox controller to a wired one with an adapter. The wireless controller has to convert the button inputs into a signal which is then broadcast as an EM wave, which is then picked up by the xbox, filtered to check for noise, decoded back to button inputs and interpreted, and I don't think anyone notices extra lag with wireless pads. The adapter just has to perform a few functions on the input signal and they pop out the other side.

Mahvel:

Jesus Christ, F champ really went on to put his name in stone as the user of the most scummy tactics. 50 secs on the clock? Got a slight lead? I know how the rest of this match is going to play out.

I admire his purity. A survivor...unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of fair play.

Plus it's such a shameless heel shtick he's got going on, you've got to dig it for injecting a bit of spice (or salt if you prefer) into proceedings.

Alas, I couldn't stay awake so I missed the finals but let me get this straight:

So Justin won Marvel and a Rose won Street Fighter IV?

If so, that is the coolest fucking thing. And there I was thinking last year's unlikely Gen win wasn't going to be topped.

I had an Evo result spoiled by SRK on Facebook a few years ago and I unliked them instantly and have never gone back. They've never recovered from it, really.

Haggs I think some people do still care about Marvel, yes.

Sounds like the UFC facebook page, instantly spoils every result the nanosecond it happens. Added, event ruined, removed.

Question: are there any reasonably priced high street available (ie GAME, CEX) decent 360 arcade sticks with relatively tight joysticks, ie not too much travel. I like those ones with the small knobs (steady) on the top, the tall ones rather than the ball type. But a ball would suffice if on a good stick.

You mean a Bat top like this?

Thats the one yeah, id quite like a stick with swappable tops.

I have a boatload (well, 7) sticks that I'll be looking to sell in the very near future if you're interested? We're pretty local to each other still right?

Yeah im still in durham, what sort of thing do you have?

I have from the Madcatz Standard Fightstick up to a Hori RAP VLX and loads of guff in between (couple of TEs and what the TEs were replaced by, think i have a Soul Calibur stick and the Fightstick VS that allows you to bolt two together). Will probs be ditching the Sanrio x SF stick too.

Gimme a shout if you like, rather than clogging up the thread.

Not sure to be honest. Will have to do some checking. edit: going off the last sold items on ebay, about £100 once shipping etc is factored in.

I'm in the middle of sorting out all of my games guff to get rid of. I've felt like far too much of a manchild lately.

RE using other consoles' pads - I've never used one, but hung around on SRK tech talk for few years.

Apparently a pad adapter does indeed create enough input lag for it to be noticable and to spoil your gameplay. Just like a bad monitor/TV setup.

There are ways to modify the pad itself, with a fair bit of technical knowledge. Try checking out the techtalk forums on SRK if interested. It's apparently doable.

It's a shame adapters cause input lag. I've been using my xbox original for a lot of emulation and also because it has marvel 2 and 3rd strike a few other decent fighters, I've been using a Playstaion adapter so I can use my PS1 hori stick on the xbox, they seem okay for casual play but I can imagine that those things would really spoil your day if you were serious about fighting games.

i too had the final spoilt with some guy who has never mentioned SF for years blurting it out at work today

I just have to give a special mention to

Snake eyes

that fight against ricky ortiz, the guy literally didn't press a button for 40s yet still won the round!

to control and patience you must need to do that...i can't even imagine

ricky ortiz smashed itabashi's zangief out of sight and even made him switch character the matchup felt that lopsided

for snake eyes to take it was just an amazing feat

number 1 zangief for sure

Snake Eyez is the best, and definitely the best Zangief, but I feel duty bound to note after Seth Killian's misinformation that that matchup is pretty bad for Rufus. It was always bad (blocked tornado is ultra punishable, he can't go in, his footsies aren't really much good for him here, lariat is a button-press counter to divekicks and crossups, and the list goes on....), to the point that vs Vangief in 2010 Ricky counterpicked with a Chun he'd pretty much never picked in tournament before, but in USF4 add in extra damage for Gief from RFC and the fact that Rufus can't even EX messiah backdash any more without eating a green hand! The fight vs Itazan was all the more remarkable for how methodically Ricky took it apart and forced him to switch away from his main character when that main character beats Rufus pretty handily.Man, I was hopping mad when Seth said it was awesome how well Snake Eyez was doing in what looked like a bad matchup for Gief! The whole tournament run from Snake Eyez was awesome though.

Anyway, we had an awesome weekend. It was so cool that Imp came and hung out - on Friday we played 15 hours of street fighter at the same time as watching 15 hours of street fighter, pretty much only stopping to heat up the dinner I made in preparation. On Saturday we mooched around town like the aging hipsters we are and ate coleslaw burgers at the vegetarian cafe before playing a bit of street fighter, then on Sunday we played 15 hours of street fighter at the same time as watching 15 hours of various fighting games. Then today Imp sat around waiting for his train while I did a bunch of unexpected work! Sorry about that :-( I think he was happy enough playing Persona or whatever, though.

And as predicted the sun pretty much never stopped shining until the moment I said goodbye to Imp at the station - at which point it started raining and that rain hasn't stopped since. Sorry, garden. Maybe next year.
