Oh rad, thanks!

What were the corner Adon combos you mentioned the other day, btw? Also I'm not entirely sold on his link from cr.LP into cr.MK. I'm pretty sure you can just do three cr.LPs and cancel into LK.Rising Jagger to the same effect (for slightly less damage), unless I'm missing something obvious about it?

Apologies for ignoring any invites yesterday evening; I was trying to teach a man who hasn't played videogames since the N64 how to do a cr.mk into fireball and spent an extraordinary amount of time explaining exactly why it was an important thing to know. I was drunk.

Guessing I am far too late to enquire about potential lobbyings this evening?

Imp, the corner juggles with Adon are possible because they've changed the trajectory/distance on his lk. uppercut, so he has DP into DP juggles that he couldn't get before. For the purposes of comparison, I recorded a basic Adon corner combo from ultra and then used edition select to make 2012 Adon attempt the same thing. Here be the clips:

2012:

Ultra:

You can juggle with MK dp for about 8 more damage, and EX dp for 20 more damage. Somewhere around 260 on that. Sadly you can't juggle with DP and then FADC ultra as all the juggle points have been used up.

The cr. mk link isn't a game changer or anything, it's just a bit more damage on your hit confirms and it's a good normal to stabilise the combo when your jabs are getting pushed too far out etc. Also you can do THREE cr. jabs into cr. mk and then still get a hit of LK Rising Jaguar. More superfluous jabs in combos can only be a very good thing.

GGs Donut!

Your Makoto is just as savage as I remember it, with new Ultra tings on top. Ultra 2's invincibility nerf is nicely balanced by the one bar EX fukiage combo I think. I was getting blown up horribly by empty jump low short xx EX fukiage for a while there, though I eventually started blocking it and even punishing by the end, so that was good.

I'm sad that I didn't get to land anything really fancy, aside from one nice Dudley combo that I will upload shortly. Apologies for constantly picking Pitstop 109 but it has quickly become my favourite stage. Hard to believe after how obnoxious it was in Strekken, but the new theme and the toned down colours and lighting make it very pleasant indeed. Almost makes up for the Mad Gear Hideout theme not being even a fraction as good as the Strekken Final Fight music medley. I'm a fan of the Jurassic Park stage now too. Huzzah for recycled assets.

Ah ha! Thanks. For some reason I was only trying mk rising jagger since that's the one I use after an FADC. Silly me.

Ho ho, I totally misunderstood that you had to make LK rising jagger hit only once to allow juggle state in the corner.

And lo, a new combo was born. 340 damage with a LK RJ ender, 344 with MK.

EDIT: Oops, silly me I didn't try for max damage.

401 damage! 1 bar! A slightly easier link! No chance of landing it in a real match, except probably from a dizzy or safe jump setup, provided they don't do delayed wakeup. Yeeeah!

So can someone download the Games with Gold freebie copy of Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition and confirm whether or not the announcer says "SUPER STREET FIGHTER FOUR: ARCADE EDITION" on the title screen? I might download it just for that. :P

(EDIT: then again, getting a second copy might result in my content resetting or something...)

That'll change, I think. Seems like an oversight. The review disc had a new title screen.

Good God, Nate! Not only are you a tourney champ, but you even got to play a better version of the game!

Also, GGs to imp earlier. Nice to fight you again, dude. It's been too long.

Couple of matchups I didn't have the first clue about, there.

Like Blanka!

Hmm, I hope it changes as the terrible proportion on the 'R' in the super logo annoys me no end. Still they never bothered for AE if you played it from a super disc, so I imagine laziness wins at Capcom HQ.

Lovely combo there imp. See, Adon's changes are fun right? They've taken away most of what I hated about him and added a couple of fun new toys. I heartily approve of this, though Gamerbee clearly doesn't!

So what do folks think about the E3 fightin' games?

Personally for me it goes:

1) Guilty Gear Xrd - Very excited.
2) Smash - Excited.
3) Killer Instinct Season 2 - Meh.
4) MKX - A slightly more pronounced expression of indifference than "meh".

Guilty Gear looks absolutely spectacular and I cannot wait for it. I've never been legitimately good at any anime fighters but I own every GG game because I love them regardless and have a couple of folks who will play them offline with me. It doesn't look like the switch to textured 3D models has a made a jot of difference to the pace or feel of the game and it allows for the cinematic stuff to look even more gorgeous than before. Please let it have acceptable netcode when it hits consoles.!

Smash is just Smash innit? Very happy about Megaman and Little Mac's inclusions, plus the Wii Fit trainer is hilarious. I dont play Smash in any remotely serious fashion, so I haven't been keeping track of stuff that will impact the competitive community too much. Wonder if they'll all keep playing Melee still? Seems likely.

KI season one is much more fun than I thought it would be. If I had an Xbone I would give it a go for sure. I like Spinal very much and would like to play him against internet mans. However, I don't have an Xbone and won't be buying one any time soon, so this has to stay on the "Meh" pile for now. Also I don't much care for TJ COmbo and I have my reservations about the game switching teams half way through. Bit of an uncertain time for this game, but I hope it ends well as I enjoy watching the KI top 8s at majors and the one at UFGTX in particular was edge of the seat stuff.

MKX is on the "worse than meh" pile simply because the gameplay has been described as a combination of MK9 and Injustice and I don't like either of them. I know I should just accept that Netherealm's fighting games are never going to be for me, but I like to at least have a bash at every fighting game that comes out regardless. It looks very pretty, and I love the character design of that huge guy who fights with a little girl on his back who helps him out as he fights. The woman who controls bugs and has crazy spider legs popping out of her is very cool as well. I love whacky character designs like that, so it's a shame it still looks to have that weird disjointed canned strings and dial-a-combo stuff going on. Also the block button is back, which is sad as its removal was probably my favourite thing about Injustice. In fact, I thought Injustice was leaps and bounds ahead of MK9 generally, so it's a shame that this game will have to take what I see as backward steps to fall in line with the rest of the series.

I'm pretty excited about Guilty Gear. It looks so lovely and Venom is there so I can pool cue balls around without any real forethought all over again. The PS4's share feature will be wonderful for fighting games.

Smash is going to be brilliant and yes, Wii Fit Trainer looks amazing. Perfectly ludicrous and probably the new character I'm most eager to try. Captain Falcon will be there too, I'm sure. He's also best.

I always just assumed this was because the game didn't check for the DLC until after you press start on the title screen?

So here is the nice-ish red focus combo from yesterday:

I cracked a bit after the crumple and skipped out a couple of hits for fear of dropping it, but not bad for a first effort with Dudley. Please notice my flurry of celebratory jabs. That is what I do instead of taunting when I am too excited to taunt.

After that I got a bit excited and came up with the combo I must now land against a Balrog player in a match. Look at this lil' beauty:

Yesssss.

Had a fun Ultra session on Sunday also. The bealted SFO Ultra launch party at Brewery Tap saw many GGs in a venue that I still think we should be using for all of our sessions aside from the biggest ones that require a hotel function room. Had a FT5 of Poison vs Elena against Sprint's Elena. Lost 5-4 but felt like I learned a lot. I remain very grateful that we have two SFO regulars who are now full time Elena players as I still find her extremely tricky to fight.

Also played 100 straight games against a relatively new guy who said he wants to play Yang in this version. I told him all of the Yang things and said that now is a good time to be playing the character. I did Yang mirrors at the beginning and was showing him the basic approach of playing footsies with cr. MK buffered into rekkas and the basic b'n'b combos, then ended up going random select for the remaining 80(!!) games. I didn't intend to play the same guy for this long, but after a while people were taking note of the streak and were saying I should either stick it out and they'd buy me a pint if I hit 100, or accept defeat if he took a game off me. There were a couple of nervous moments where in the late 80s I got Fuerte with Wubble twice, but I managed to pull through and secure my beer. Oh, and Fei Long nearly cost me the streak as well as I have absolutely no game with him at all. The hardest win of all was with Rolento, but I did manage to land Standing roundhouse - > cr. MK xx rekka rekka - > FADC - > cr. MK xx EX rekka - > Ultra. It was only my second time playing Rolento and it was a combination of theory fighter, the fact that I'd just played 20 games of Yang for rekka warm up and the glorious Asus monitor that made it possible. I feel like I should never play him again now because I know I'll never hit that or anything close to that good with him again.

GGs to imp and Qazlleston earlier. My housemates were all over the bandwidth, so apologies for the lag, but there were still some hilarious games in there. Sadly my plan to come back on this evening has been thwarted because I had to give back the Xbox I was borrowing. Currently living on borrowed accounts, consoles and sticks and I am not happy about it at all guys. Not happy at all.

Ha, it wasn't planned, we just ended up playing for absolutely ages, then someone walked past and went "have you seriously won 70 games in a row on random select?!?!" and then the quest to hit 100 was on. I was being heckled the whole time by the ever-supportive SFO community. Criticising my decisions, cheering my dropped combos and willing the other guy on every time he took a round off me. Such great teammates. :)
