It didn't matter what you did, that match was won and lost on the character select screen.

re. the game feeling "wrong": there was a reddit post during the location tests which claimed that, as part of the effort to fix unblockables, hitstop on all attacks was increased by one frame. That is to say the "frame data" for moves stays the same but every time an attack hits a character the whole game freezes for one frame longer than used to be the case. I can't find anything confirming that this actually happened, but it would explain the feeling of the game feeling somehow unfamiliar. It would also be a convenient excuse for my inability to hit my one frame links this week.

Also, I played this wonderful game for the first time in a million years yesterday and it was much fun. I played a bit of Elena who I like quite a lot. I don't really know what her moves are yet but that Combofiend primer video helped highlight a couple of day one buttons to use and that helped quite a bit.

Donut mauled me in a Makoto mirror too which was even more stylin' than usual because of the whole ex-fukiyage jump cancel x tings. I loved it. I'll try and upload a video because it's laughably vicious.

Ha - I kept trying to get HP xx Hayate xx RFC > Tsurugi > Ultra 1 in, but my fingers don't seem to be up to the task of RFC'ing consistently yet. Sad face.

Also, it looks like Nintendo may have 'won' this particular corporate showing of children's video games.

Here is the grimy Elena primer I was offering on XBL over the weekend, in text form for those who have been fortunate enough to avoid it thus far:

Hit confirm from low: cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.mp xx tings (qcb+K spinny kick is the best ting, and the EX juggles to ultra in the corner)

Hit confirm from high: EX overhead kicky special, cr.lp, cr.lp, cr.mp xx tings (as above)

Slow hit confirm from high without meter: f.mp, cr.lp....

RFC combo: from any of the above, RFC the qcb+k on the first hit.

Anti-air: st.MP

Air-to-air: j.HP

Actual gameplan: just press buttons, with f+mk and throw featuring slightly more often than everything else. Hope that you win.

I like the 'hope that you win' part of your primer. Right up my alley that is.

I also like threatening overhead guff all the time then weeeeeee! along the ground with slide. All gimmicks all the time.

Decapre is pretty great. And if not great then certainly fun.

It all seems to be about sneaking your way in close enough to get them blocking your low jabs, then mixing up between.

slight walk back, cr.mp into stabbyhands to blow up crouchtech and DP mashing

jump back instant air drill to beat crouch tech and backdash

mk scramble into

-divekick

-ground pound

-crossup groundpound

And if they're smart enough to just hold up, you can react with air throw. out of scramble.

The real test is going to be how good she is at getting in, and just how good are her Aegis/stalking flare/glowyball setups.

Do you have any idea how hard it was to get EXACTLY 1337 points?

I did it twice. FUCKING TWICE!

Lifewise I basically peaked too soon with that one.
