Ultra Street Fighter IV

As someone whose played against some really strong Oni players, what on earth are that guys weaknesses, apart from his fireball not reaching fullscreen?

His normals seem to cover everything, has great AAs, absurd damage..

I hate to be that guy again but I just got off the phone with Combofiend.

Camel, I asked him why they took Dhalsim's two-hit limb away. Was a long answer but the salient point was "it made his good match-ups easier and didn't help him in the ones he struggles with". Focused instead on giving him more damage output up close. A fine answer, I think.

If you're dissing guilty gear I don't even.

It's like Blazblue but fast and good

Nah, it's just most Mukkers here only get time to play SF. Any other fighter gets bought by many, played a handful of times then gathers metaphorical dust.

Also... If you're dissing Blazblue I don't even.

A lot of Rolento players are really messing me up! They tend to often go for that EX roll as a corner escape. I don't know many ways to punish it but Dan can neutral jump and air EX Dan Kick to juggle into Ultra 2, or if he doesn't use the EX roll just lk.knee to continue safe pressure. I dunno if it's that easy to react to, though.

I hate him all over again.

You love being that guy, Nate :)

It is a good answer. As a ghetto Dhalsim it would have been great fun though.

My internet is still mostly buggered :(

Haha. Qazi, I knew that Red Focus would be uploaded the moment it happened. :D

I couldn't help myself. I'm never going to pull it off effectively like that again.

And I still lost the match anyway :P

So I finally got to play, albeit for only an hour and offline in the lab.

Hugo is MASSIVE, holy shit.

Poisons st.HP reaches half the length of the screen! Her cr.lpx2 into st.mk is hard, but feels solid

Fei Long gets 510 from J.Hk, Hp xx Mkflamekick xx Hk chicken wing Ultra 1 now that all three hits connect properly. His crouching bnb is the rather swell looking cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.lk, cd.lp xx rekkas which is far easier than his previous annoying 1frame link The first three hits you can pretty just mash crouch tech to get out. If you're at point blank you can get cr.lkx2 into cl.hpxxrekkas for 228 damage.

T.Hawk gets 320 damage meterless from jd.HP, cl.mp, cr.mk xx lk Condor spire and in a perfect position for shenanagins. His movement certainly feels faster, I think he finally got his gun.

Decapre cr.mk xx lp dagger is a bitch, but you're gonna have to learn it for her.

Loads of uploading going on at the moment so I'm in training mode trying things out. With Dan I did a j.hk, b+hk, cl.mp, b+hk RFC b+hk, cr.mp x EX.Dankicks, wasting all my Super meter and doing 441 damage.

Also here's words I tried to post from work earlier but it didn't work:

Red Focus-ing an eternity of Nate's Rolento rekkas was one of my favourite things yesterday. As well as some ridiculously close games against Fitzcaraldo's Hugo; two of them went to the last pixel of health each on the final round. Some wonderful terror from the big man when he gets in. Go Huge-o!

I wanna play more but I dunno when I'll get a proper chance.

I saw that Mad Catz announced a new TE stick for Ultra, a 360 one and one that works for both PS3 and PS4. I might pick up the latter, partly for use with Guilty Gear but mostly because I like buying arcade sticks I don't need.

I also failed several attempts at beating Lyrical Donut's time on Sunshine Airport and I thoroughly enjoyed myself doing it.

I still think the two hit MK was a bit too generous. I like all the other buffs he's even given and he definitely needed improving, but that buff just made his winning match ups even stronger rather than doing anything about his bad ones. I think it's reasonable for Bison, for example, to try the occasional focus dash through errant sim limbs. It's far from a foolproof way in against a top sim player anyway.

I too, am Combofiend.

Had a fun IRL-fighter session with Alistarr and SFO Savant today, though it was hampered by my Xbox deciding that it won't read discs any more at the worst possible time. Ended up wasting a good three hours trying out various solutions before I had to borrow an Xbox from another friend for the evening and accept that mine is ruined for the time being. On the plus side, AE will be a free download soon and I can just use my ailing 360 as a Streetfighter box if it's adamant about not running discs again.

That makes twice in a row that us meeting up has led to someone's xbox dying.

It was an excellent time anyway, though I feel like trying to play ranked matches while half asleep at 2am was probably a misstep! Particular highlights:

- Witnessing Gouken repeatedly murder Hugo without even trying, in what's possibly the game's first 11-0 matchup. The man lost four nil in a FT3, for crying out loud.

- Rolento mirrors in Mario and Luigi costumes (I hope I never see another Rplento mirror in my life).

- The moment, which I think I could pinpoint to a specific round, at which you levelled up to Day 2 Poison and left my Decapre still scrambling in the dirt of Day 1 with no hope of victory. I got a bit better later on, at least, and it was great to get some lagless combo practice in matches too. I need some serious games vs Sagat and Zangief (and more against Gouken) with her to see if it's worth learning her properly, but I feel like if beating those guys more easily is my aim I'm probably better off persevering with Chun.

- Playing MvC2 is always a highlight.

- Impromptu combo challenges in training mode. I am the best at the Gouken j.MP juggle into sweep and will never attempt it again. Your friend is the best at the Ryu overhead combo.

- Adon is too good (wait, that's not a highlight).

We need to get some online training mode sorted soon. I will be compiling a list of tings which require testing/practice, starting with punishing uppercut fadc forward.

..and I'll probably be online later today if anyone fancies a round or two of street fighter.

That Fei video made me realise we get to see all sorts of excellent costumes at EVO2014.

Playing on my ps3 with no costumes has made me realise how much I miss Feis 70s business attire.

Brown suit all day, because he's going to WORK.

Experts at man fighting, if I were to buy a fighting stick, what is a good choice for a person who was once mediocre at SF Zero 2 and 3? PS4 compatiblity would be a big plus.

The only ps4 compatible stick is the new Madkatz Ultra stick.

Qanba Q4 if you want 360 and PS3 compatibility

Otherwise you want whichever of the TE sticks is currently the cheapest.

Don't buy a Hori EX2 for the love of god.

Emporer dhalsim has assembled fighting game men from far and wide. He demands to know who was responsible for the nerf to his st.mk. This buff would have made many of his terrible matchups better, he said, and was necesarry to stop him getting utterly bummed by fei long in the corner, he insists, and don't even get him started on the Hakan matchup. Bring him the combat system director called combofiend, he demands, that he might have his head.

The crowd are still and silent.

Then, after a moment, a single figure stands up from among the masses and clearly intones

"I'm combofiend"

Another

"I'm combifiend"

Another

"I'm combofiend"

Until eventually the whole seething mass of sweaty men with TE joysticks stashed safely in the backpacks are all stood bellowing

"I'm combofiend!"

Then, one man leaves the crowd. He's comfortably dressed in a polyester suit, and has a twinkle in his eye and a spring in his step.

"Now, guys, come on, there's only one combofiend, and that's me" he intones. While he's jovial, the steel underlying his voice silences the rabble at once. Combofiend skips over to dhalsim, and puts a comforting arm around him. Step by step, point by point, he kindly yet firmly explains the rational to dhalsim. What would hugo players do? And how about poor old guile, isn't he miserable about already? And look, it's not like you didn't get buffs. You're just a very polarising character, dude, that's life!

His kind words and noble manner win over the emporer, who vows never to question combofiends wisdom again. "oh, you can question me" says Peter, "just don't expect me ever to be wrong!". And, with a laugh and a wink, he vanished into thin air with an ultra flash illuminating the sky behind him, his next task to rebalance vergil in UMVC3.
