Yeah, the overhead actually turns the character around, then when they stand up they have their back to Dudley for a moment as he jumps over. So he crosses them up in the corner, but blocking cross up doesn't work because the character turns back around and walks into it. It works on Rufus as well, but smug has a tendency to get steamrolled by Rufus so he doesn't get much chance to try it.

Maan I love watching Zeus fight Rufus and Cammy. Such a heroic performance in match ups that can turn to shit in a matter of seconds after 80 seconds of perfect play. He was immaculate for a whole round against Justin there and somehow got dizzied anyway. But yeah, best Vega anywhere, amazing.

Nate, it's this:

Notice that the overhead "splat" turns Sagat around, then when he stands up he has to quickly turn again. It allows for cross ups and unblockables that wouldn't be possible otherwise. It's really really tricky timing to set it up correctly though, and that's the first time I've ever seen anyone do it in a match. Smug seemed to just do it by feel rather than frame killing whiffed normals too, because he is not a human.

The roundhouse ends up hitting Sagat in the back of the head, so he's either going to block the wrong way or it may even be unblockable.

So last night I was thinking about how much I hate Rufus, and it occurred to me: how many other characters in the game can combo into a full-animation, full-damage Ultra in the corner off a regular special move? The only one I can think of is Sakura's DP but that Ultra does such piffling damage even when it's unscaled that I don't think it really counts.

Fuckin' Rufus, man.

How many others have a mid screen no meter hit confirmable combo into ultra.

Anyway guy can land his ultra off a target combo in the corner.

Ryu can with a correctly spaced LP Dp on a grounded opponent, which is pretty much a training room only thing.

Balrog has headbutt.

Dan can hit ultra 2 from a well spaced lk danku in the corner I think.

Makoto has karasuka.

Rose has soul reflect into juggle u2.

Seth has spin kicks to u2.

So a few I guess. I still hate Rufus though, the fat prick.

Still no fan of Fuerte but I am a sucker for a beastly RSF loop. I love how you can see his eyes glaze over as he hits the combo without thinking, then snaps out of it and realises he's hit ten in a row. Definitely one of those combos where you have to get into the rhythm early and then stop thinking about it. As soon as you consciously think about the timing you'll drop it.

On that note, highscore challenge: with Cammy, what's the highest number of tiger knee EX cannon strikes you can combo in a row in training mode with infinite meter? I noticed that SFO's resident Cammy player does it as a bit of a warm up thing in training and I want to beat his high score of 29. My best effort is 21 so far. Again, as soon as I start paying attention to what I'm doing it stops hitting.

Well, I've ordered some new Sanwa silent buttons, got my room all set up, nailed in the ether net cable from the lounge to my xbox. On Thursday when the engineer finally arrives to grant us magic internet abilities I shall be back playing my favourite game.

Please, if any of you wonderful people are around Thursday evening/night, I am very rusty and desperate to play.

Countin' down the hours...

This is a bit like that scene in an action film where the ol' crew are disbanded and disheartened, working manual labour shipyard jobs or down 'n' out while some great evil approaches. Except it's just grown men who want to play a videogame.

Decided to try and ease myself back in with some games on the PC. Had a couple of nice matches but this chap was less than impressed with my style of play

I am confused why tinned meat products get mentioned so much.

That's pretty nice work - I don't think I've ever got any rage mail on PC.

I got some this week!

This guy quit the match before my ultra animation finished. I sent him a " :(", to which he replied:

Also, a Swedish chap practically RSF'd me to death with Fuerte, so I sent him a congratulatory message. His response:

:(

Hegg, many apologies for not seeing you last night. I didn't leave the office until 9, sourly.

Don't sweat it man, no worries.

Next one is on a Wednesday, might mean we get to see a wild Camel. Possibly. Hopefully.

Just gave this a few tries and I have a couple of 10s and an 11 as my best offering thus far.

I actually find FADC loops to be really good practice for tightening up my BnB links - I guess it's probably just that you waste a lot less time waiting for the dummy to stand up again, but it does also seem to help with getting used to organising your fingers and not freaking out as easily when you finally string a couple of hits together in a match and know you need to capitalise.

EDIT: yoooo 18!

Standard moan: it seems absurdly close to the Ultra launch for us to still not have a date. Has any other big game recently done this? I suppose most other ones have a release in shops so they can't.
