Ultra Street Fighter IV

desk stop breaking street fighter so much

EDIT: I loved this bit in the description; clearly he's not content with one-handed play and is making use of more limbs:

NOTE. After Abel is stunned, I had to look at my feet to make sure I was pushing down-back on an xbox 360 pad I had on the floor...

So excited about that Dudley buff, mostly for use against dive kicks. Even without the juggle, just getting a soft knockdown is all Dudley needs sometimes.

Congrats on the arcade streak Joffles. What a beast.

Heh, Desora (probably the best Japanese Gouken) reckons Hugo players should only have to pay half price per credit. Sounds like it might be even worse than Gouken vs. Hawk.

Day one Decapre combos courtesy of Air and LPN:

Looks like she has some nice Viper/Ibuki style super jump cancel ultra combos as well as piano hands tings. Combos into air grab are pretty too. Most of the SFO players are pretty down on her as a rehashed Cammy but I still think she looks like loads of fun.

I did some Street Fighting last night, on a new version of Street Fighter!

Street Fighter Deck Building Game should run you approximately six Bison Dollars (£30) from your local game store.

This looks lovely. Interesting that they used HDR art what with 'Chess 2' creator Sirlin getting turned down to use the license for that Yomi game that is probably quite similar.

Did some more cr. fierce xx legs practise today. Ever so slightly better at it than I was. Need to drill it regularly though as I am so very far away from where I want to be with it. Also sometimes I get bored and think about other fun Chun combos that I haven't attempted before:

I don't know why my victim is always Dee Jay at the moment. I love Dee Jay. :(

Bit annoyed that the ultra drops, but then that problem has been around since Vanilla, has been "fixed" with every update and is seemingly the same as it ever was. You'd think they could give the last hit insane vacuum properties like Gouken's EX tatsu or something. It's not like that would make it function differently in any other context, it'd just give you the full juggle more consistently. Hmmph.

Some of Sirlin's games are really good - Puzzle Strike aims to be a Puzzle Fighter game in cardboard form and Yomi is probably the best representation I've seen of a Fight Mans game that isn't actually a videogame. Yomi and SF Deckbuilder are not even remotely alike other than they are both card games, but I totally recommend Yomi to any fighting game fans - it's very elegant, very simple and follows a lot of the usual fighting game rules - throws beat blocks, blocks beat attacks, attacks beat throws, and each player chooses their card simultaneously so you are making all your plays based off the cards in your hand, what you think your opponent is going to do and the toolset available to your opponent.

The feeling when you lead someone the wrong way four turns in a row is glorious, much the same as an SFIV vortex. If your opponent guesses right they will escape, but it really can convey the feeling of momentum.

A Street Fighter edition of Yomi could potentially be great, but I can understand why Capcom went with Cryptozoic for the deckbuilding game - Cryptozoic have a great track record with licensed products, whereas Sirlin - with a straight face - made a direct sequel to Chess.

Seriously though. Yomi is honestly wonderful.

It sometimes feels like mentioning Chess2 is too easy a cheapshot when talking about Sirlin, but then you remember that he made Chess2. Really tells you a lot about a person.

Also I just had a flash of inspiration and thought "I reckon I can squeeze a cheekly little EX legs into that combo up there". Then I did it to Dee Jay. Poor Dee Jay:

Anyone fancy a fight or two at any of the games we all have? I'll be available until about 9.30 but post here if you're heading online (I hate checking the Xbox website!).

My right index finger is starting to hate me. Sitar players would be so good at legs loops. I'm soldiering on though, as I refuse to ever entertain the idea of buying one of those gaming glove things. It's perhaps a little ridiculous that a person like me has any kind of line when it comes to excessive levels of nerd-dom, but gaming glasses and gloves are it for me.

That would put me in quite a quandry.

I am excited too. I've managed ten cr. fierce xx legs + additional hits in a row today, but the odd hand positioning required to do it means that getting another fierce and doing it again is still a distant dream.

II have done these though:

Cr. fierce xx legs - > link super

Cr. fierce xx legs - > link cr. mk xx super

Cr. fierce xx legs - > cr. short - > cr. jab - > stand jab - > stand fierce. Thoroughly respectable meterless damage there.

Cr. fierce xx legs - > cr. short - > cr. short - > EX legs - > tings.

Basically every time I do it correctly I try to make sure I combo into something. It causes loads of hit stun so the links are quite forgiving, but it's just a question of re-configuring my hands in time.

The one I'm going to drill above all others is the Lud/Valmaster b'n'b one bar punish: Cr. fierce xx legs - > cr. mk xx EX legs. The fact that you've just pressed MK a load of times to get the additional hits means you can link the MK and mash kicks and you will get EX legs easily. It's just making sure you get the link. It does 290-ish damage for one bar, as opposed to the 156 that cr. short - > cr. short - > EX legs does. Hit it a few times so far, and if I can get any consistency with it at all then that is pretty much all I need. It'd be nice to try and do insane Desk loops, but a practical and damaging punish would be the biggest buff to my Chun game in forever.

Yeah, I was in the same boat. Getting five kick inputs in time to cancel the first hit of crouching fierce seemed to be physically impossible. Valmaster inspired me to start trying it again, but I still couldn't do it until I settled on a method that works for me. I can't do the method he uses, but the one I do use is pretty similar and I feel like it's a bit more precise and reliable than sweeping your hand across the buttons and back again. I tried two other methods that are supposedly easier than the one I'm using, but for me they were infinitely more difficult. I think minimising the tapping/sliding that my rubbish right hand has to do is what makes it good for me. The three button slide is the fast bit, but compared to the full slide ( press fierce, slide down to roundhouse, and then slide to short and back to roundhouse again) method it's a breeze. What finally got me grinding it out in the lab is that Benners from SFO, who doesn't play Chun at all, had a bash at it when I told him the method I'm using and managed to get the hang of it after about half an hour of practise.

I still think you're one of the stronger rllmuk players in terms of execution, so I'd urge you to give it a go.

Cr. fierce + medium kick with your right hand.

Tap light kick with your left thumb.

Slide from light kick to roundhouse with your right hand.

Tap MK to get the four additional hits.

Clean input should look like this:

I didn't know you were technically a southpaw, JLM. Surely you should be using that left hand for C. Viper/Ibuki jump cancel nonsense?

I played online a bit with Rose and felt less rusty than I expected. I could anti-air and actually use the threat of a throw to land combos. She's my way of staying above 1000PP. I look forward to points-racing with you all when Ultra comes out. :)

Yesterday I was trying the following with Ryu, which combos six hits from six different buttons: cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.mk xx hp fireball fadc cr.mp, cr.hk. Who else has such a combo?

If anyone can do it without a focus cancel I might consider switching mains.

Actually, Rufus can probably do cr.lp xx ex tornado using mp and hp, fadc cr.lk xx ex messiah using mk and hk. That feels like it might be cheating, though.

I always liked Dudley's LK MK MP HP target combo for the variety of buttons involved and how it travels. It's like Boggle.

Juri can do something like LP LK MP MK HP with Ultra 1 active, but since everyone runs away when Ultra 1 is active it's not really a workable combo. Ibuki's magic series is still ace though. :P
