So dhalsims St.mk vs Hugo looks like it's 10-0

2 hits on a medium kick!? WOW! :D Only way that could be better is if it would cause FIRE effect.

I'll take it as it is though.

Anyone up for some games? I hit ranked yesterday after finding my Hori stick and got rocked hard. Need practice!

Hugo surely needs ultra 2 against dhalsim. Without that threat he has almost zero chance of landing a meat squasher. If he does get one of those he could do horrible horrible things to sim in the corner. Dawgtanian's day 1 clap shenanigans at Hypespotting were scary enough and I'm sure the Japanese arcade folks will come up with more soon. Also I think smarter use of EX lariat and clapping the limbs at full screen would help. It does look like an absurdly difficult match up but I think Hugo can do better than that and will over time. Still think Sagat is even worse for him too.

It might be that there's an interesting footsie match vs Sagat where he wants to do the armoured fierce or whatever at exactly the range where Sagat's st.HK only hits once.

Or it might be that Sagat just murders him and goes about his day.

True story: me and Willei used to play Alpha 3 on netplay before all of this Xbox Live SF4 tomfoolery was even a thing. Also I didn't know how to play and got my arse handed to me by his Guy. :(

My Alpha 4 wishlist would include changes that make X and A-ism more viable, and lobbies, trials, replay channels and the rest of it. And online dramatic battles. :P

Legend has it that if my name gets dropped in a Street Fighter thread, I am duty bound to reply.

I've been playing SF4 again after a long break, generally I find myself hating the experience. But in such a way that I'm almost enjoying my anger, if that makes any sense. No, I didn't this so either.

I've been trying to play Cammy because I heard that she's OP in the current version. I find myself struggling to know what to do with her almost all the time. I can't open defensive players up with her, which is the problem I had playing her all the way back in vanilla. Also links from crouch HP are still weird to me.

I still do okay with Viper and Ken, I can't do anything with Cody or Guy any more. Playing as or against Vega is just plain depressing. I can't tech throws. None of my option selects ever work. I am constantly baffled by things which I am certain will work just don't seem to, such as Ken's super. There are still people in 2014 who are mashing DP with Ken and churning 360s with Gief, and somehow I'm still losing to them dammit.

I feel like I don't know how to play this game at all. Would love to play some games with people who know what they're doing and might be able to give me some pointers over voice chat. If you removed me after not seeing me logged into the Xbox for the last two years, my current gamertag is Mr eSports. I mostly play in the evenings after 9.

With Cammy you want to fish for cr.mk xx spiral arrow in the mid range to score a knockdown. If they're using a lot of pokes and you have meter, use EX cannon strike to stuff these and get a full combo. If the opponent doesn't have an invincible anti-air, jump in and use a delayed EX cannon strike to stuff their anti-air normals or get in and start applying pressure if they block. Even if they do have a DP, make them prove that they can consistently react to low dive kicks before you give them any respect. Don't over-think your approach or give the opponent too much respect as Cammy is an extremely disrespectful character who doesn't have to get in "honestly".

EX cannon strike is absurdly powerful. Great hitbox, insane frame advantage on hit or block. One of the dumbest moves in the game, so if you're using Cammy you need to be taking advantage of that.

Once you're in, use crouching jab pressure and use a mixture of back throws and frame traps using cr. fierce, standing fierce, standing mp and tiger knee EX cannon strikes. If you land a back throw, use dive kicks, ambiguous jumping light kicks and empty jump cr. light kick to open them up on wake up.

What makes Cammy so good is that she doesn't care if they get hit or take the throw. Either result is equally good because landing a back throw is often as rewarding as landing a hit. This is in contrast to another frame trap character like Cody, where taking a few throws is generally the preferred option and he has to work hard to convince the opponent otherwise.

Cammy is comfortably top 3 in the game, and, like AE Yun, is best played with the mindset that you are using a derpy character and can pretty much do what you want.

I think you're on my list Willei and certainly find myself in a similar situation with you with regards to coming back to the game, though I was never really that good to begin with. My tag is Devoncommando.

I still haven't managed to catch D.C. yet after offering to do some voice chat training together, but if I'm ever around I'd be delighted to offer what little knowledge I can about this game - anything to ensure a steady supply of friendly people to play it with! Have sent you a friend request.

Please excuse me if I ask a daft question, but now EVO2014 houses Ultra instead of Super, do players such as Daigo to not gain an unfair advantage because of the time they've spend with the latest version?

Yeah I appreciate that man. I am on at odd times compared to the rest of you I think - tends to be early on the weekends rather than later or in the evenings. I got my mic sorted though!

Yeah good game man. Sorry if I'm a bit random - I've discovered that I cannot do very much good with Dudley but am ok with Deejay. I still can't do any combos in a real match though and have my own 'style'.

I was entertaining trying Hugo in Ultra but after hearing people say he is like hard mode and watching that vid I may just stick with Deejs.

Although none of this is deterring me from wanting to main him, mind. He's my favourite ever SF character and I've seen enough in other videos to know that - with practise - he can be a monster, particularly if he can get his opponent in the corner.

They do indeed. I think they got a headstart on AE as well, but it wasn't quite so close to Evo. It's going to be a very eastern top 8.

It was NCR this weekend, btw - it's another Capcom Fighters job so I am once again relieved that I am still accidentally subscribing.

It is possible to watch this anywhere without the sub?

Yeah I wouldn't get dissuaded from messing around with Hugo. When he does get going he's glorious, and as allystah says it's more than likely going to be a game where having a little selection of characters rather than one rigid "main" will be the best way to go.

GGs Willei, though that connection was abysmal. Entirely my fault as I'm using a wireless connection at my parents' house. Will play again soon when I'm home, though be warned that SFO dragonman may well not be me a lot of the time!

They usually go up on the capcom fighters youtube channel a week or so after the event. It's that perfect timing where it's soon enough that it's obviously not really worth subscribing on twitch just to see some men play a videogame a few days earlier, but it's still far enough away to make you think about maybe subscribing just this one time.

Here's the youtube channel it should eventually be on: https://www.youtube.com/user/CapcomFightersTV/videos

It's probably not worth watching the PAX East footage that's there right now unless you're really, really bored.

Willei! Wonderful.

Also, was Street Fighter x Tekken released as an arcade game? I just played it at an arcade, complete with Insert Coin overlays though the game's normal menus were replaced with a suspiciously long loading screen and the sound of options being selected before the character select screen appeared, gem select and all.

Might it have been an odd, modified PC version?

I also played Street Fighter II pinball and completed SSFIV AE's arcade mode with Dan before playing SFII and losing the very first fight.

Street Fighter tourism!

<Cammy knowledge>

I wasn't fishing for someone to write me a guide or anything but goddamn this post was exactly what I needed. Just knowing that I should be going for back throws has helped me a lot, I've been getting much better milage out of my EX strikes now I'm playing more aggressively too. This is my first time playing a character in any game who really gets started after a knockdown so that's definitely taking some getting used to.

Good games earlier too, the connection seemed fine to me but mine has been so up and down this bank holiday weekend that I'm just used to playing in poor conditions at the moment!

Had my first session with this yesterday, initial impressions...

Elena has an INSANE neutral jump HP!

Some guy beat me mainly using this, not on defensive but on knockdown, he would position himself where it looks like it will miss by a mile but the damn thing would hit. He then would mix me up with high low and start the process again - it was brutal

Rose does damage now!!

Fought the same guy a few times, was the same kind of fight but you would be like, hold on, whereTF is my health! I think she's pretty dangerous now

I personally think makoto's dumb with that ex fukiyage. It allows crazy mix up very easily, I don't know if they've nerves her stun but neutral jumping HP is 250 stun (which is why I use it)

I mainly used Dudley in my session as I've been messing with him recently.

You're right on top on them when you land heavy machine gun blow, like throw distance, I'm not sure what it is in hit but it will lead to some interesting setups for sure

His 6+HP causing juggle on air opponents is cool and could lead to some crazy snug type juggling but it's quite hard to land on a jump in and I mainly got it from catching backdash on wake up.

Ohhhh wake up, I got caught so many times with delayed wake up, it's quite hard to break to habit of safe jumps and I was learning the hard way the set ups I had definitely gave the opponent the advantage.

Not sure I like red focus move cancel...

I know it costs 3 bars but it seems a pretty easy way to gain a decent chunk of extra damage. In a tense game where footies are keeping it very close I've seen it change dramatically from a hit confirm, red focus crumple, combo, ultra.

I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not.

I think Hugo is gonna struggle in this game. I know it's too early to tell for sure but character was so big I couldn't get over a fireball with jumping HK without landing on it! They gave him armour on his EX clothesline so you can catch fireball spamming but experienced zoning will make it tough

Edit: nuskool I got you a street fighter card, apparently there are different types and it's random what you get.

Those who like fighting games might like the iPad game Yomi. It is a card game that tries to simulate a fighting game.

It is £6.99 for 10 characters (with no IAP apart from another 10 characters for another £6.99).

Yeah it's a digital conversion of a physical game made by no-one's favourite game designer Dave Sirlin. I played about half an hour and got unbelievably bored, but that's more about me than the game, I think. Seems alright but just not my thing.
