Ultra Street Fighter IV

Ooh, Gamerbee's initial Ultra impressions are interesting. He thinks the top 5 are Sagat, Rose, Makoto, Guile and Evil Ryu. Also Deejay is "top tier", and of the five new characters Rolento is good, but not too good, Elena is boring and needs to be played turtle style, and Poison and Hugo are both "so so".

What a time to be alive!

I have concerns that shotos will own this game.

The topanga world league had 5 shotos in it and they've pretty much buffed all if them

If we're gonna be seeing more Sagat players I feel sorry for anyone who picks up Hugo

Whatever happened to the new set of costumes which were supposedly happening for all of the characters? That's gone really quiet and I'm sure they showed something in one of the early trailers right?

Or did I imagine that?

I think it's a bit too early to panic about who's going to dominate Ultra just yet ;) Even so, I have enough trouble with Guile already in AE :(

Trouble with Guile? I already have trouble with Deejay! I guess I picked up Sagat at the right time though. :)

I think I remember something about that, and would concur with you, dude.

However, I can't prove it.

Not sure what I think about fast travel yet, and also somewhere early on the subtitles said "you're" where the dude was actually saying "your". Other than that I award Dark Souls 8 hours out of 10 so far today. Dragonrider is free. Everyone else I've met is pretty solid.

Is there any good gold armour? And does the 50% equip advice still apply?

Okay I know not everyone likes them, but the Two Best Friends Play channel recently started a series where they play beat 'em ups together; they opened with Garou and it looks like they've put up a new episode with vanilla SFIV, although I've not found time to watch it just yet...

Dust gets maddeningly annoying IMO, the checkpointing is ridiculous and combat gets super repetitive. Stick it on easy.

I started a dual Caestus run on DS2 last night, so I am just punching the living fuck out of stuff. It is good. The in laws are here ATM and I am willing them to go to bed so I can crack on with it. Dark Souls.

Definitely get you on this (the checkpointing is bad), but that lovely easy combat makes it a good "afternoon, someone else cooking, 80s music, low effort" game. Also I unlocked a challenge level that took me half an hour and some discipline to beat properly, so looking forward to more of those. Hardly a masterpiece, but were any of us this critical about Streets Of Rage? [/wankhat]

Don't know about the gold armour, but I do have a fancy range in hats and a nice skirt.

I'm staying at just under 70% so that I can bling myself up with my rings and accessorise with my favoured big sword, oh and 70 or over seems to do the rumble pad you is a bit heavy thing.

I think - unless a new ridiculously good S-tier emerges - it's very possible that the most successful players in this version of the game will end up being the ones who are playing two characters, just to cover as many matchups as possible. Except Justin Wong, obviously.

I eventually stopped playing last night at about 1am, shortly after my first genuinely salty death - got poisoned by an effing jar (which I later found was mere yards before opening up a shortcut) and then failed to find my anti-poison items in the inventory before my health ran out.

If you get poisoned, quickly popping two lifegems will not only counteract the poison but start refilling health a bit.

My one bit of advice would be to spend any remaining souls after you level up on lifegems. They're super useful for the little topups when an Estus would be a waste. I run around with 99 of 'em most of the time.
