Who's done the general game music in this game? Its phenomenal. This and Max Payne 3 have set the bar so high.

When it was installing I was thinking 'They've done a good job getting that Tangerine Dream vibe' and it turns out they've actually done some of the soundtrack. Don't know how much though.

Urgh. Pop out at lunch and check local supermarkets or wait for the shrouded in mystery PC announcement...

Y U MAKE THIS SO HARD ROCKSTAR.

I started out today saying I was going to wait for the PC release. After seeing GTA v adverts everywhere on he way to work and colleagues chatting about it all day by 6.30 I was queuing up at GAME with a bag full of 360 to trade in against GTA V.

The people don't mess about in this, huh?as Francis first time i walked out my house and punched some guy across the street and some guy behind me shot me dead, then I robbed a coach going across the bridge and got stuck in a jam, the police shot me dead nearly before I got out the door! I wasn't even armed and I think it was only 2 stars

Runs great on PS3, I thought it'd be a bit juddery but its all good so far...

Edit: also got thrown out of a club for 'touching' :), I went back in and about 5 of them jumped me and had to run out but they chased me down the street, mad

This is pretty awesome, huh? Also, 23 out of the 25 friends I have online right now are playing it.

Just got the second character. Only done a handful of missions and spent the rest of the time exploring. I really love the random events - some guy ran off with another guy's wallet, so I chased him down, bounced him off my bonnet and returned the wallet to its owner. Was tempted to nab it, but thought I'd play nice for a bit.

Oh, also I seem to have got a stripper girlfriend. And a mighty, mighty beard. It's the game that just keeps on giving.

So I've spent a good few hours on this now. Finished about 8 or 9 missions and have spent some time wandering around, causing trouble, taking in the city and enjoying the radio.

Today I opened up the map that comes with it.

It's too big !

Having seen what I have of the city, the scale of the landmass along with the underwater exploration possibilities is staggering.

Played it for six hours straight and absolutely love it. Rockstar know exactly how to build a world that you are quite happy to just chill out and explore without feeling the need to keep plowing on with the missions.

Not a fan of what they have done with the car handling though. They lack the weight and momentum from GTA IV, which is a real shame.

Also gutted they have removed the cinematic cam from Taxi rides. I was looking forward to taking cabs right across the map and using the camera angles to admire the world. Yet for some odd reason have left in it when you are actually driving - when it is no fucking use whatsoever!

Even so, I'll still be playing this well into the new year I reckon. I played through GTA IV 6 times and I can easily see me doing that with this game.

It took a few hours for me to tap into the GTA mechanics, coming off Saints Row it felt decidedly tanky, but once I dialed into it, it felt as natural is it ever did. I disagree with all the criticism of the car mechanics, they feel pretty realistic, they change widely from car to car, front wheel drive, rear wheel drive, all wheel drive affect the cars in a realistic manner. The bikes feel good too. I'm enjoying it. I think I've just spent an hour in the shooting range with Franklin, it's totally absorbing.

Is the underwater exploration around the whole map? Or just the inland water, I've not left the city yet

Its everything. Theres caves and shit. wrecks, reefs, its all explorable.

Huge underground tunnel systems and that too which you don't realise are there. Well, actually you kinda do but you know - so many levels.

There so much to see it actually begs walking to take it in.

I'd just like to say...to those knocking the resolution - i did warn you. But as said your eyes will get accustomed to it.

Or nextgen...but its a wonderful piece of work. Theres some very clever position based tech going on although its got the same bug that Shift has - AI cars sometimes crash into nothing. I noticed it once. Some car just smashed and endo'd a bit. I drove very close to the point (some road junction) and nothing happened.

Also noticed two AI cars crash whilst playing tennis in the background (i couldn't see it) but heard the AI guys have an argument! I love shit like that.

Hmm yes it is a massive shame there isn't a launch pc version. I've spent the pre-launch period replaying gta 4, at 2550x1440 with all the icenhanced bells and whistles. It's absolutely glorious looking, and lets you appreciate so many of the phenomenal details the artists have put into the world. Maybe it's my eyesight at 30 but I find it much harder to pick out signs, incidental details etc at 720p on my Xbox than at 1440p/60fps on my pc.

Still I'm loving it on whatever format, and ill look forward to replaying it on the PC in a higher res in a year or so.

Yeah, I'm about eight hours in now and I could really do with a PC version to sort out the aliasing. Apart from that it's marvelous, there's so much detail and depth everywhere. The mission design is great so far and the writing is really sharp. Had one weird moment when a store was being robbed as I walked in, and police busted in and arrested me for absolutely no reason

Go stand on the pier at sunset and put the controller down, watch the world go by for a bit and listen to all the shit people come up with. Watch the AI do interesting things every few minutes... watch the lights start to come on as the sun disappears. It's a really spectacular gameworld.
