It does come afterwards, unless I'm misunderstanding you. You can replay any mission at any time.

What I was rambling on about was, complete the mission in your own way. Done.

Then after you've completed the game, get into the business of replaying missions. Theres enough to do without trying to gold everything. That part does not interest me one bit.

It's purely something for a bit of replayability factor, something to dip into here and there. It's a quick and easy way to extend life in a game, as they dont really have to do much extra legwork the enable it, but it's still satisfying for some.

There's an online beta?

I'm being incredibly boring to start off, really small things like seeing if I can jump on people's houses and stuff. Bigger stuff comes after I get comfortable, but at the moment I mostly just playing it as a citizen.

One of those citiizens who likes to invade people's property and bounce around on their roofs like Mario, presumably?

I did something similar. I saw a ladder leading to a rooftop and just had to climb it. It wasn't very tall - about eight metres or so - but it gave a lovely elevated view of the surrounding area. Brought a smile to my face, seeing the rooftops being reasonably accessible on foot compared to some GTA games in the past.

Nah. Probably depends if you've played Max Payne or RDR. Same system.

You can switch it to 'complex' and it'll replace the dot with a crosshair though.

edit:

Yeah, free aim all the way for every R* game. Only way.

I didn't play Max Payne but I can't remember having an issue with RDR. Just seems to get lost a bit in the background at times (especially during the day) as it's pretty small. I'm sure I'll get used to it!

The races seem a lot harder than usual in this, the first one really taught me to get in the habit of using Franklin's special ability.

Taking a break from missions I've gone on an explore. First this took me to the airport, but as soon as I got on there, I got 3 stars and had coppers all over me. No worries though, cause I just jumped in a small plane and did one. I planned on exploring with the plane but ended up crashing it fucking about.

Anyway so as I'm driving out the city, the cops are chasing another car. The driver gets out the car and has a shoot out with the police. A lorry comes down the road, slams the break on and the driver gets out and runs away. I try to be a good citizen and knock the guy out, however this makes the police come after me.

So they start chasing me and I'm driving over the hills, off road in a 4x4. Went over a hill and did a small jump and of a sudden a police car goes flying over me through the air for ages and rolls over a cliff and the car blows up. It was amazing.

Got my car stuck so now I'm just wondering the wilderness shooting birds out the air.

This map is insane and the wilderness (even the smaller patch south-east) goes on forever. I've left Franklin out and switched to Michael....whose sat in a traffic jam listening to some Phil Collins haha.

Car disappeared from the parking lot during blimp ride, don't understand the technical reasons why it should (it's back at the house). It's not like starting a mission or anything.

Also, what is Franklins ability supposed to do?

The Internet interface is scarily realistic.

Also, probably being an idiot here, but couldn't see how to quit to main menu (there is a quick save option on the phone).

My god, first time in the water. :o

Amen:)

I've spent most of today biking around looking for ramps, gawping at the incredible scenery, and being a taxi driver:)

Unfortunately all the supporting cast are still incredibly annoying, cliched, loud, embarrassing dicks, but ya cant have everything:)

Next up, get a mohawk and buy a revolver. You talkin' to me?

Got the game, bit dissapointed with the map like, is not seen it, it boasted of being bigger than all these other maps put together but the actual city doesn't look that big to me, 80% looks like nothing, I reckon GTA 4 had more city, looks like they've got a little seaside town but not much else and where's the guide book?? Boooo

I posted this but deleted due to fear of negs. I don't doubt that the city will not meet expectations of people, but I don't think it will be overcome by enjoyment of gameplay. Having said that, having seen some of the environments, the deprived areas especially, I think that's what count. Content.

This. In parts the writing is shockingly bad. Not bad enough to make it good just plain bad. Also one thing that has always bothered me with GTA is everyone always sounds like they are talking in a studio, there never seems to be a sense of them talking in the environment they are in.

As for the car handling, well it's only the first car thats total pig to drive. So far everything else has handled quite well. Graphically it's nice looking but the x360 version had some god awful texture streaming during the introduction "Low res....Highish res!". Weirdly though it doesn't happen anywhere near as bad in game.

Los santos meanwhile is very well realised but if your making a game set in a city and have all these different shops etc then at least make it so you can enter them!. Why make such a huge map if most of it has no us to it? Surely a better way would be a smaller but much more 'Liveable' city. One that has a sense of life to it.

I don't know. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh. Maybe more hours with the game will help it grow on me.

The city is still huge so don't worry. I've been on an explore and there is a lot of countryside with nothing in it tbf. But it's not like you have to go there all the time it's just fun for bombing around on a quadbike. I reckon the fun with the countryside if where GTA Online will come into its element.

I definitely want the game music. The credits at the start said Tangerine Dream did it. I went exploring out in the wilds. Found a new ager UFO commune and got shot by the cops for punching a dude while waiting for a cable car. The lighting at night really reminds me of Alan Wake. It's fucking delicious.

Just did a mission that involved Jet Skis. It was fucking Waverace HD. The water effects and physics are lovely.

Im the opposite. Been playing since 11am, and by Christ its flown by. Its the first game to do so to me in a long, long while. I utterly hated GTA4, the soulless, wannabe realistic island(s) of crap that it is, but this feels like there's life everywhere, with so much to do/climb/see/explore/live. I'm sure if I looked at it and set my critical eye to 'on' I'd find many faults, but when its this much fun, who cares?

Sure I've had some pop in/low quality textures but its not an issue. I've never been one for GRAFFIX OMG. and the writing I've found very funny at times. Sure its cliche gangsta nonsense but it works.

This is... unbelievable...

Started properly role playing Franklin. Chilling around, going for a drive in the beach and generally exploring a bit. Changed his hair and clothes, took some pictures, went to a beach where people where having a beach party, hanged around until one of them was so pissed off I was staring he started threatening me, got in the car, went back home, smoked a joint and watched some tv.

2 hours gone by and I didn't actually do anything.

Decided to go for a mission and I was amazed by the shooting mechanics. This actually feels like a proper 3rd person shooting now, especially with the over the shoulder camera. It's weighty, responsive and with free aim + sensitivity I felt totally in control.

The graphics are... I don't know what to say. Really.

Wtf.

Done the very first mission and as soon as I was able to just bunk off on my own, I left my Charger in my garage and hoofed it around the block. Approached a neighbour, pressed right on the d-pad and ended up in a fight. Done him over and got the cops on my tail, so grabbed the nearest shitbucket car and sped (slowly - it was a shit car) my ass out of there. Bummed myself in the gob in that car by flying down into the concrete river bed things that LA has ruining that car. Wandered around, found a better car and just headed north during the night. Saw a big rig, so pulled that over and nicked it. Kept heading north and as the Sun was coming up, I spy a 40ft trailer on the side of the road. Hold the fuck up and back the truck up! Hitched to the trailer and I pull away. Didn't notice what station was on, but it had to be the Country station, didn't it? A few seconds later and what comes on the wireless, but none other than Convoy. Fuck yeah, tbh!

Love this stuff about GTA games.

Hopefully this doesn't fucking happen too much; can't save the game and stop playing because there's a mission starting from my house, and it seems I have to complete it before I can stop (having not saved at all so far since starting). Killing myself etc doesn't help.

Due to real life (boo-urns!), I can't play anymore of this until tomorrow, but I can't stop thinking about what I'm going to do. This is A Good Sign:)

Ooh, and i forgot to mention the police system, sooo much better than the old "get a respray or pick up a bribe" stuff. So cool to be able to dive into an alley or pull over under a bridge, and nervously wait while the cops roll by just feet away:)

You can quicksave from your phone;)
