First impressions are very good. The difference in the cars' handling is immediately noticeable; they're much more fun to throw around but still feel nice and weighty. Checkpoints and regenerating health feel like a natural fit and you have to wonder why it took so long for them to be implemented. :D Oh, and Radio Los Santos has some sweet tunes for cruising around to. :)

Is the flickering normal on the very first scene of the game? When I look at the

Christmas tree and move the camera it suddenly comes "alive"

.

Is any adjustment needed or do my eyes need to get used to it after spending so much time on the PC?

Ha, I think your eyes just need to adjust. I felt the same when I started Last of Us recently. Once you're into it youll stop noticing I reckon.

Good to hear. I was afraid that there was something wrong with the tv actually, it's not exactly... new. :P

edit: looking at the paper map. Damn, can this size be for real?

First order of the day, ride a motorcycle in the Great Ocean Highway at Paleto beach, when the sun is going down.

Oh, and unlock my atomic blimp, of course.

Anyone spot this story:

http://www.thecourier.co.uk/news/uk/man-beaten-and-stabbed-for-copy-of-gta-v-1.131800

A man who picked up one of the first copies of Grand Theft Auto V when shops opened at midnight was stabbed and robbed of the game as he made his way home.

(Then it goes on to mention the rest of the stuff that was nicked as well, but which didn't make such a good story).

Oh man, I'm not very far in

(franklin and michael just 'met'....I dunno who was more surprised, him or me)

but so far this seems amazing. First thing I did was walk to the barbers shop a couple of blocks away, and I already saw some random emergent shit kicking off around me. Very alive. Only downside so far is that I keep confusing some of the controls, especially ones that have been switched around or altered from gta4, and things like not being able to crouch etc. Should be easy to get used to though.

Had some great lols at design bits that you could easily overlook. First thing I saw in franklins house was a box for a pair of running shoes branded 'pro-laps'. Also, if you watch the FPS michaels waster son plays (which actually looks like an ok game!) you can see that one of the weapons is a shitty stick. :)

Anyway, question regarding the Chop ifruit/smartphone app.

It says it helps you train him and alter his behaviour for missions, but is that a unique feature to the smartphone or just a remote extension of something you can do in the game anyway? And what does it actually do?

It's just that I dont have a smartphone, so...

Theres one teeny tiny fuckup with the design of this game.

When you do a mission, it grades you on how well you did it ( Silver.. Gold etc ) with the chance to replay it and do it better.

On the first playthrough, you should be able to get the missions done and dusted your way,

even if you do fuck it up a bit along the way! ie: the game should not judge you so much.

The chance to replay missions should come afterwards. Yes it should.

Surely it's just an incentive to replay? Also I think (I haven't replayed any missions) it's like The Ballad of Gay Tony in that to get a Gold medal you don't need to complete all of the criteria in a single attempt on the mission, so for example if there are two criteria for example a time limit and an expected accuracy level, on your first attempt you may get the accuracy but on your second you can simply concentrate on doing it as fast as possible without having to worry about accuracy.

I keep changing my my mind on whether I want to read this thread or not. One minute I'm all 'Want to discover everything myself!' then the next I'm like 'This game needs to be talked about, nnnnrgh!'

Anyway I haven't really done anything yet, just cruised right up to the north of the island and back which took a pleasurably long time. Amazing game world. First thing I did was turn off the GPS as I tend to prefer it when I'm forced to find my own way around and get a feel for the place.

I also stuck free aim on but it's feeling a little bit tricky to see the aiming reticle at times, is anyone else finding that?

Utterly blown away by this.

From snapping a selfie at sunset overlooking the city from the Los santos hills, to hearing some gang bangers on the corner say what the fuck are you doing here, before a full blown gun battle kicked off, and to top it all I boosted a money case from the security van to be chased into the sunset with stardusts music sounds better with you on.

In the first hour I've had more fuck me moments with this than most full games from start to finish
