Red Dwarf

Some of that was a bit funny, some of it wasn't. It felt like a third season episode in substance/concept, but without the sharp wit. I dunno, I enjoyed it on the whole.

It LOOKED very good, especially compared to the cheap-looking flatly-lit Series X. Kryten looks better; they've fixed his nose. I could get used to more of this if they get the writing quality up.

It was good to see Starbug again.

I thought it was okay, if a bit lifeless. I felt like there were missed opportunities for jokes - the scene with them walking away with Bob, just five seconds of silence. Season 3 Rimmer would've said "yes, yes, we'll leave your stupid string alone!". Some parts went on for far too long.

Starbug needs a background hum or something so it doesn't just feel like a set.

I thought that was pretty bad, actually. So taken with its own clever plot that it forgot to include any actual characterisation. Barring a few predictable one-liners, that story could have featured any four random characters. It all just sort of happened around them. It definitely didn't feel like Red Dwarf.

Second episode is now up on UKTV and it's.....good! Some great laughs in it and an interesting Sci fi concept again with a good call back to an series 4 episode. Also some nice effects as well.

Also the Cat has quite a bit of dialogue in the episode. He's also stunning misinformed on history. Oh and there's a lovely bunk scene with Rimmer and Lister. It's a better episode than Twentica and certainly feels very series 5.

Was a definite improvement and the non cast scenes lent it quite a different feel..

Shame about the ending though.. It just kinda stops..

Finished the first one, and I can't believe how much it felt like a classic series 5/6 Dwarf episode! Unfortunately, a lot of the jokes fell flat, but there were three or so really good ones.

Danny John Jules was absolutely perfect too. Far better than in IX and X.
