Just discovered that Bob's Burger creator Loren Bouchard is making a new show called Central Park for Apple TV+. The art style from the trailer immediately gave it away before I looked it up. Out end of May

The latest episode, Copa-Bob-bana, was a joy from start to finish. One of my favourite episodes in ages.

200th episode is pretty great (escalation of causes of the fire was amazing) but didn’t feel at all like a special episode (although focusing on that you’re good on isn’t a bad thing)

It's good!

 

I went to the first showing this morning, only about five other people in there. I considered going to a more crowded one this evening instead, which might have more of a fan atmosphere - but post-pandemic I'm still uncomfortable going to crowded evening cinema screenings.

 

If you like Gene tagging comments onto the end of other characters' lines, you'll be in your element.

 

But you might not like it if you're less keen on the episodes where

there are higher stakes and the family is put in actual peril. In that sense it's most reminiscent of the two-part season 4 finale.

 

 

I know the film can't cover every significant character from the series' run, but there are certain characters I was disappointed were barely in it, or not in it at all:

Mainly the school supporting cast: Mr Frond, Andy and Ollie, Tammy and Jocelyn, Regular-Sized Rudy.

 

Also... no Gayle at all!  (Except a silent appearance in the credits.)

 

And Teddy was fun as always, but I don't think his appearances here were him at his best.

 

Sgt Bosco gets some good moments, though.

If there's a main character in the movie, it's definitely Louise. With her ear hat being a focus from the start, I really thought they were going to do what the South Park movie did with Kenny's hood, and show her without the ears.

 

Does the Fischoeders' prominence in the movie explain why they were completely absent throughout season 10?

It’s just a two hour glossy Bob’s Burgers story which is just a really nice way to spend a couple of hours in the cinema. Loved the tunes.

Didn't love the movie. Didn't hate it. It's a glossy longer episode, as other have said similar to the season 4 finale.

 

It's fine - but it doesn't feel special or necessary. Most of my favourite characters only have minor roles which didn't help.

 

Songs were good but also I don't think anywhere near the best.

 

If you like BB already you'll have a fine time. Can't see it converting anyone though

Apart from money for the creators and distributors I don't see why some people are always so keen for a movie version of a TV show. How often are they better than an episode, or even just a group of episodes that have some continuation. Alpha Papa is a rare exception I can think of.

I wasn't the biggest fan of Alpha Papa, but I thought the South Park, Beavis and Butthead, and Simpsons movies had merit. They allow experimentation not possible in a tighter format. And, recalling my days as a miniature child, I loved seeing a more polished 'big' adventure for the cartoons I watched on TV. They felt epic.

 

There are certainly more misses than hits though. Does 21 Jump Street count? The recent Chip & Dale? Maybe not, since they're post-modern reimaginings. But also great.

I love it, something about the better animation/more detailed art style makes the kids even more adorable. Like they've got so much more character, especially when they're dancing.

I love the show but really didn’t like the movie. I didn’t like the animation, it took a while to figure out but it’s because they’re 3D models and so they move oddly and the facial positions looked odd compared to the 2d drawings of the show where each pose is designed to look it’s best for that pose.

 

The story itself was alright, there’s been episodes with better stories and I don’t know it all kinda felt a bit flat compared to a typical episode. As someone else mentioned even the extras characters had seconds of screen time where as they’d normally get lots in a 20 minute episode.

 

The simpsons movie worked as it felt like the show but bigger and a fully featured story that needed the run time but this felt like a 20 minute episode reallllllyyyyyy stretched out. Disappointing.

I'm pretty sure the tv show and movie uses rigged 2D animation.

Yeah I don't think they're actually 3D models in the movie, they've just added a lot more lighting & shadows to them to give the illusion of 3D:

 

 

They also seem to have added a lot more subtle movements to everything which makes things a bit more fluid than they are in the series, if that's the right word.

 

I honestly love this style, it made everything feel more like a solid world. I hope some of it makes it into the series, if they're going to keep making it. I remember the visual quality of South Park made a massive leap after the film came out, I assume because they figured out a lot of more efficient workflows for making higher quality stuff.

I never felt that the animation was different from the series, the series just tended to limit this sort of quality to a few hero scenes or the closing credits numbers, probably for budget. Look at the bit in the early episode when Bob gets deranged on pain meds and thinks he’s Burger Boss for example.

I was coming to post about the lack of Jimmy Pesto (Senior) recently and specifically the movie. Then saw this on imdb.
