The Robert Ludlum ones are great, probably a bit dated now but he was a proper thriller writer. The non-Ludlum ones are trash. Man, I love those 80's Ludlum covers.

I downloaded the sample of Supremacy and it’s much as I remembered, I barely got past the first page. The stories may be good, but Ludlum is an appalling writer.

Thank you.  I asked. but didn't think to look right now!  I have several of the earlier ones, and it will be nice to start filling in some of the gaps.

Why can't were have a decent Alex Cross TV adaptation?

Please remove the link to Hadley Freeman @Stopharage, she’s regarded as one of the UK’s most infamous media transphobes, and also as instrumental in the knowing and false smearing in the media of Jeremy Corbyn as an anti-semite.

Probably best not to ask for the book about Jewish lives to be removed then.

I don’t give a fuck what she writes about, she’s a known scumbag - a transphobe who knowingly helped smear Corbyn falsely as an anti-semite, and that’s that. Anyone supporting or promoting her work is doing so with the full knowledge that’s who she is.

Contact by Carl Sagan is a great book by a great man. Recommended to anyone who hasn't read it yet (it's the Contact that the Jodie Foster film is based on).

In fact it's a great companion pair with his non fiction book The Demon Haunted World (that's just one of his many non fiction works, I know but TDHW is the one of his I got the most out of)

Oh and fuck Hadley Freeman

Hadley is indeed a pretty obsessed transphobe, to the point that she crowbars into interviews with the likes of a surprised Margaret Atwood. I have no animus towards Corbyn critics, and I would have previously  described myself as a fan of her film writing. She’s probably one of the Guardian centrist transphobes that I’m saddest about. Although maybe she nicked Goose’s book design for her book (a stack of old VHSes with 80s movies pencilled on the labels) so there’s another reason to dislike her.

You should have - every single Corbyn ‘critic’ bears direct responsibility for contributing to the election of our current government, and everything that has stemmed from that election.

‘Animus’ towards Corbyn critics is painfully quaint - every single one of them is deserving of pure, raging and unending hatred.

I'll be totally honest, I haven't got a clue who she is. I only put it on there as it was recommended by our librarian to one of my Jewish 6th Formers and they'd enjoyed it. These Kindle lists I compile often speak to my ignorance; often there'll be authors and genres that I have no awareness of, meaning I don't add them to the list.

I think the ongoing replies demonstrate the feeling towards her and so I've edited it out on the basis of her transphobia.

Is there a way to get alerts for when books you want are on sale? I basically want to pick up every Pratchett novel when they’re 99p.

I got a notification from the Amazon phone app when one of my wish listed kindle items was on sale today. Apart from that, not sure.

I don't think you can get alerts, but my top tip is to have a dedicated Kindle wish list on your amazon account, then have a quick look at it every morning and sort it by price. Anything on offer will appear at the top of the list. Takes about a minute to check.

Yeah absolutely this. I tend to only check it at the start of the month though and see if anything is in a monthly deal. Otherwise, I think I do actually visit the daily deals page each day out of habit.

Sorting by price is weird for me though - I've sorted price low to high in the screenshot and it's not always in order. For instance, the books after Perfidia are cheaper - I feel like it's because I'm not in the UK and don't always get the same prices as UK users.

(P.S. don't judge me if any of my selections are dodgy, I throw any recommendations I find on there and only really look into them if they are on sale).

Another month, yet more fodder for the pile of shame. Of the below, that Guy Shrubsole book is engaging but enraging, Blake Crouch is a decent ideas person but a poor writer, the Galeano football book is up there with the best literary offerings the sport has to offer and I saved you all the delight of seeing Jess Phillip's book was back down to 99p again.

Natives by Akala

I have recommended this book several times on here and for 99p it is a bargain. A really well written book not only explaining race in the UK from a Black perspective, but also the cultural and historic elements which have led us to this point.

If you want to get a sense of the author's knowledge of the subject and ability to articulate his points then there is a great presentation here that is well worth anyone's time:

Also worth actually clicking on your books on your list, as sometimes a 40% promo will be in operation. Annoyingly, it was working on Sea of Tranquility yesterday but now isn’t. I’ve never had an email or notification that the 40% offer was in operation.

Working on the Premonition Bureau at the moment.

The Book Thief by Markus Zuzak is 99p in the Daily Deals today (not for the first time) - I expect most people probably know about this but it's a genuine classic that's sometimes pitched as a YA novel but really it's just a great read for everyone.

Only downside is that you will find it listed on your Kindle as "The Book Thief: TikTok made me buy it! The life-affirming international bestseller" which may or may not be enough to put you off the purchase.
