I should add that if anyone has suggestions or things that they dislike that they'd rather not mention on the forum (say you had an experience where you thought someone was using modded players but don't want to openly accuse anyone) please feel free to PM me in the strictest confidence. Cheers.

Allowing custom formations would be a big backwards step to be honest, and not sure why they've been OK'd so quickly.

I think it was Bleeders who said how would it be managed (e.g. allowing a max of 4 defenders and 1 CDM for example), but the what's being overlooked is its the setting of arrows that affects how DEF or ATT a player is.

TL;DR - A formation that may appear fine on radar/whatever could still be manipulated in a way so that it may be utterly joyless to play against, and I can't see how any specific rules/regs might prevent that.

Glad everyone agrees with Mardigan, and I'd echo Mitch's nomination.

But we still need some more names people! Sith, it was your post that sparked the change, who would you nominate?

And I'd live to hear from some of the newer names and current 1v1 stalwarts too. Quinn? Donnie_Darko? Kirky? Can you guys throw in a name or two you'd happily have judge such matters?

We're going to try them again as we've had a lot of feedback from people saying that losing them was a reason for leaving, as it removed some of the fun for them. If we have an outpouring of opposition in the next couple of days we'll certainly reconsider.

But you are right, there's no hard and fast rules we can implement. Any guidelines are going to include a grey area between what would be acceptable and what wouldn't be. It's a gamble, but we hope to encourage players to play for fun via team pick rewards and the possibility of promotion based solely on attitude to the league.

Would it be too much to ask for people to use mics more or make it a rule people must have then on, unless ita out of their hands (ie: broke the day of the games)

I say this because the fun about the league is getting to know people behind the monitor.

All we see is what people type like. There are times I admit when I was just like, I can't be bothered talking to certain individuals because of their ways on the forum. But every single time I've chatted with them for the 40 mins over 2 games it has been great, I've come away thinking alot better of that person and it really does help with the forum experience.

An example is that Littlejoe was a prick on the forum (so was i alot of the time lol) but hes a lovely guy on the mic lol there are two sides to people, well except Sean who is a prick for both ;) haha

I really think mandotary voice coms will only help the league.

Ps I do love you joe.

Everyone was crap in the Premiership this season.

Including yourself ;).

But for my two cents; Bleeders, Mardigan, Donnie and/or kirky would be my nominees as they are well respected within the forum and would do good jobs of overseeing the new rules I think. The idea about basing team picking order based on posting activity etc... is very good as it should provide a decent incentive to post. The idea about a forced usage of a mic is again good however if that rule should be implemented it shouldn't be done too heavy-handed as there are times where (myself included) have not been able to talk due to external circumstances. Perhaps adding an option when reporting results to state whether the person has used a mic or not which can then contribute team picking order. In terms of custom formations, while personally I don't mind whether they are used or not but the only way to get 100% equality over the league and prevent that one person playing 6-0-4 then the rule would need to stay.

But I would also like to say I did enjoy last season and seasons before as I have enjoyed the competitive games of fifa every week and I'm sure others have! Just putting it out there to show its not all doom and gloom in the 1vs1 league!

A rule change for the new season:

The admin team have decided that all games will be played using Online squads and NOT Custom squads. After a large amount of feedback from league members (much of it via PM and Live Chat), it was felt a necessary change to remove all suspicion of the modding of in-game players.

To do this: select 'Online Friendlies' and then change the 'Squad type' option to 'Online' instead of 'Custom'.

The downside to this rule change is that players will be unable to save their line-up before joining the pre-game lobby. You will now only have 40 seconds to change your team round - it is recommended that you practice the quickest way to set your team up.

Players should also be aware of the '40 second bug' - If you don't 'back out' of the team selection screen and save your changes before the timer runs out, it resets all team changes to default, included making players swapped in from the reserves unavailable for the up-coming game.

In this instance we ask that players allow restarts and pauses at kick-off for opponents to properly set-up their team. It's also another reason to use the mic people!

Sorry for not responding before now.

Very glad that there's a rule that all squad must be 'online'. Difficult last season knowing whether my opponent wanted to play Online squads or Default (and i would let them do whatever they wanted, both H&A, because i'm a nice guy ^_^).

Like all the rules in general, think it should help encourage more banter in the league, something that was indeed rather lacking last season.

Probably get abuse for saying this but just being honest.

In regards to the issue of the mic. Last season i didnt bother using one & i sent a couple of people pm's after games explaining why.

Basically id rather concentrate on winning the game than having a conversation, guys & multi tasking lol. Even when im playing one of my mates i do the same.

So who knows i might start using a mic, but if i dont you know why lol.

Y'know, what you could do is come online with your mic, have a bit of a chat whilst in the lobby, then make your excuses and say that you won't be talking during the game as you find it hard to concentrate, then come back on mic at the end to say 'thanks for the game' and wish your opponent all the best. That way everyone's a winner.

Personally, I always have my mic on for league matches, even if my opponent doesn't. If they are silent, they'll get a 'good luck' and a 'well played' and if they talk back they'll get half an hour of disjointed, unintelligble shit as I try (and fail) to split my concentration between the conversation and the game. :)

Was out of the country for the first half of last season (In Thailand, shussh) which might explain last seasons lack of input but point taken, a bit more effort in game reporting & general chit chat in lobby shouldnt require too much effort.

Maybe try to use the lobby a bit more than the league table/fixtures site in future to organise fixtures also.

One other thing. Hats off to the quality of some of the match reports. Especially the amount of detail in them. I frantically try to write down as many notes as possible during half time and full time of both games. Any tips to help this? Attend memory classes? buy a camcorder? :D

I've gone for a variety of things to cover up the fact that I can only remember enough to give the sketchiest of descriptions of what happened on the pitch - grabbing the video replays is always a winner. I had a season of doing video reports, a season of picture-of-the-week minimalism, some sort of 'humorous' Van Morrison themed thing but, really, none of that came close to the quality of that time in my first season where I called Charlie a cunt 157 times in one report (http://www.rllmukfor...ost__p__7300930) :D

I always note down the half time score, full time score, MOTM and my scorers on my phone then piece it all together around that and whatever else I can remember. Sometimes I will add a few notes around certain goals but things like the times of goals I usually just guess at :)

The best thing you can do is have a template for the report so you just copy and paste it into a new post and change the necessary details each time. That way your reports will always have a nice consistency to them.

A liberal sprinkling of statistics helps, along with posting 'in character'.

eg:

Farkin' me : Bottle of Glue (2)

Norvern Monkey: Fiddle Sticks (6)

I shoulda had that mardy slaag, but 'e kept on bangin' 'em in and fore ya know it I'm right in the Gary.

I ain't got a Scooby wot went wrong, but I made a right pig's ear of it. Even wif about flirty shots, I was propper done up, like a kipper.

Faaaark.
