The Killing

The US version. Season 3 is currently showing on AMC on Sundays, and episode 10 was the latest.

Ok thanks, the US show it is. I did watch it before up to a few episodes into season 2 but I lost interest there. I shall pick it up again and see if it can grab me again.

with S2 I felt they were padding everything out a bit too much. S3 with a new case, at least so far, it feels better paced, and there are some truly excellent scenes.

Though the best part by far is Holder referring to a wheelchair bound elderly gentleman as "yo, vintage playa" :D

Literally just finished it ourselves. The whole season was fantastic, best so far. A couple of things.

So Kally is really dead? Thought we were going to see her in the boot of the car. Also, did Adrian see Skinner kill his mum, or just saw him dumping the bodies?

One more episode isn't there? (ep 12)

This weeks was a double.

Wow.

Much as a good deal of the latter half was taken up with Skinner explaining everything very neatly to Linden/the audience, Koteas completely sold the dialogue so it didn't just feel like exposition, but a man confessing his sins. Brilliantly played all the way through and the ending was electrifying, even if it did owe quite a debt to Se7en. (Holder even repeats Somerset's "he wants you to do it" line.)

Was weirdly glad Reddick wasn't involved - a neat double-bluff there, not least because the camera seemed to highlight his hand injury during the recap. While I had a hunch it was Skinner, the episode didn't lose anything for my having guessed what was going on. Brilliant stuff. The ending felt like a bit of a full stop, though - I'm not sure how they'd bring it back from this.

Overall, one of the most gripping and satisfying seasons of telly I've seen in a while, and a huge, huge step up from the first two.

I mentioned this in the netflix thread does no one find this stuff a bit annoying (US version)

People always seem to be able to walk into the police stations and see evidence, people being interviewed, horrific pictures of their murdered relatives. The detectives give loads of unnecessary information to the various suspects and relatives which then allows them to go and fuck things up. Also once you realise that anyone that appears to be a suspect is definitely NOT the murderer it removes some of the tension.

Except

Joe Mills

¥was the main suspect all along.

Hmmm. I gave up on the US version when season 1 finished without solving the murder. I'd also finally watched the original version and found it superior, so I wasn't too fussed about remembering to watch the US version when it came back for season 2.

But now you guys are all posting about season 3 being awesome. I might have to check it out...

Is it required to watch season 2 and try to remember what the hell was happening in the first case?

Why would it have to be such a cover up?

everything up to the shooting can be told true. Then there's a struggle where he gets his gun back, and she shoots in defense, first shot non lethal to try to stop him and then the second shot when the first doesn't work. Holder backs her up saying he got there just as it ended but was too late to help.

Anyway I thought Linden was being a bit dense in the car. Did she not think it strange that he managed to get all the way out there and back so quickly, when it took them hours to get out there?

I was thinking that too, but it didn't take so long for Holden to get there so I wondered if he'd taken something of a circuitous route to the lake.

No, Rosie and the first case are never mentioned in Season 3. Although I recommend watching S2 because it's excellent!

I assumed that

he took a long route so he could torment/torture Linden and give her the whole story. He also knew that it would drive Linden into a rage if he drove around for hours and then said "he was with us the whole time".

The entire fourth season (six episodes) of this is up on Netflix now, and I'd strongly recommend it if you enjoyed Season 3. Slightly weird to hear the characters dropping f-bombs so frequently, but the two main plot threads are gripping, and the acting is brilliant (particularly from Joan Allen, Clark Gregg, Enos and Kinnaman).

I think the ending might be divisive, but I thought it was really well judged. Either way, worth six hours of your time, I reckon.

Finished it last night, thought the ending was

bullshit! Completely against the tone of the show. Correct me if I'm wrong but Holder and Linden have never even hinted anything more than a partner/friend relationship. The five years later part had me squirming in my seat it was so uncomfortable. Linden should have gone down for what she did.

Holder

tried to kiss Linden just after Bullet died, but she brushed him off.

I dunno, I felt Linden had suffered so much that it was nice to see her maybe get a shot at happiness for once. And I think in the end the idea of the cover-up made a lot of sense, not least because it highlighted that the mayor - who came into power on a campaign focused on his honesty and integrity - had become corrupt since taking office. Linden would have gone down if it had meant that Skinner's crimes were pinned on him - she was clearly unhappy that it was all going to be attributed to Joe Mills.

Guys...I don't want to type this into Google or read the thread...due to fear or spoilers...but can anyone tell me how many seasons of the USA Killing we got up to on CH4? I want to watch the rest, but can't remember whether it was 2 or 3. Thanks.
