I await your impressions with genuine interest. I figure this totally isn't for me. For this 45-year-old bloke, obsessing over the relationship travails of a load of Jap teens has (less than) zero interest - it almost seems slightly dubious in that particular salaryman-subway-letchy way. I'm also not much of a JRPG fan.

And yet, and yet, the universal love for this, the hype in this very thread, and my drive to grab a good bargain means I am still, despite every instinct I have, teetering on the very edge.

You, yes you, catinthehat might just push me over.

Tick tock...

When I read about Persona I didn't understand how I could possibly like it. I strongly dislike JRPGs, I generally feel nothing but bemusement and embarrassment when it comes to relationships or general storytelling in Japanese games. I can't think of anything more boring then getting involved in obscure storylines involving cardboard goofy characters inbetween random battle grinding. On paper, Persona 4 Golden should be everything I hate in Japanese games.

But I still bought it as I was starving for a good new Vita game, fully expecting to give up after the introduction or first dungeon, as I do with most JRPG games.

I'm currently 27 hours in and can't get enough of it.

Interesting. I might have to give it a try. I can only stomach Mario & Luigi/Paper Mario normally.

Most XBLA / PSN games I would rather play on the Vita. I said ages go that a portable XBLA machine would be amazing. I just wish all the existing PSN games like Critter Crunch, Shatter, Chime, etc would get ported to Vita.

Yeah, it's a shame that the release date estimate has been nudged from spring to summer, but hopefully the extra time will make Divekick as good as it can be. I'm tempted to go for the PC game myself, although I might grab the Vita version later as well...

Yeah, but I probably won't download it from the store. Not until it's £20, anyway.

Let us know what you think, though. I'm really interested to hear the opinions of people who weren't originally interested in it.

Um.. it's taken over my life in less than a day... it's sooooooo good :)

I'm actually looking forward to soccer practice and random school knowledge quizes :omg:

By rights I really shouldn't like this game, it really shouldn't be my cup of tea, and yet I'm addicted to the story and I'm genuinely enjoying every aspect of the game. Tis a revelation :D

Oh FFS, I've only just started Persona 4, but surely I'd be mad to pass up 3 at that price? Any idea if it's a permanent price drop? The idea behind getting a Vita was that it'd save me money in the long run through PS Plus, but I can tell already that it'll wind up costing me a bomb.

I'll give Persona 3 another try at this price, didn't click with it on the PS2 but my 45 hours on P4G have put me in the mood to give it another shot. It's worth £11.99 just to mince about in Iwatodai Dorm listening to the music really, that's my strongest memory of the game.

Just to note if you've played Persona 3 before...

All of that is nifty, but you could've gathered that by reading the two previous Persona 3 reviews. What's good and bad about the PSP version of this award winner? Well, most of it's good, so let's get the bad out of the way first. The beautiful anime cutscenes from the original game are gone. Instead, the story is told through static screenshots and voiceovers. Similarly, there's no more third-person free-roaming. You can still choose where you want to go after most classes, but now you just move a circle to interactable objects on the screen. You no longer walk your character through the halls of Gekkoukan.

Both of these losses hurt the experience -- but they don't come near crippling it. Losing the anime cutscenes is a bummer because they looked so good, but the story is easy enough to follow and I found myself connecting with the characters almost as much this way. The same can be said for the new navigation scheme. It works and gets you around, but you lose some of that immersion that came from wandering Japan. This game was already a few years old, and these handicaps make it feel its age.

From the IGN review, they still gave it 8.5/10. I'm going to try and hold out I think but I imagine I'll cave and buy it tomorrow. I should probably just buy it now so I can leave it downloading while I sleep...

I actually found that those "negatives" were thoughtful reworkings to fit the portable experience. Having stuff in-engine rather than through animated movies works well enough, and the combination of the cursor and the quick-select on the square button means that you can zip around the place really effectively. :)

And I still think it's awesome that I can now have P3 and P4 available to play wherever I am. Vita

That doesn't sound that bad to me, I'll still get it.

I'm playing P4G on normal and finding it a suitable level of challenge for me but I know they made a few changes from standard P4 which have made it a bit more accessible, is the previous game much or any harder? That's always my big worry with a JRPG, that I put all the time in then hit a wall somwhere down the line and give up on it.

I'm about seven hours into P3FES (bought for $9.99 on the US store since the alternative of paying £23.99 for a version without the cutscenes etc. seemed kind of ridiculous). SMT: Nocturne is the closest I've come to a Persona game before so I'm new to it but I'm finding things fairly straightforward on normal difficulty so far so I imagine you'll be fine.

P3P is currently down to $9.99 on the US store so Europe's still getting shafted a bit price-wise, even with the sale.

I ordered it from ShopTo yesterday, for less than I would have paid from Play Asia in the end. And it arrived today. Fucksticks. I think I'll wait until my Easter hols to play it, though.

Velocity Ultra trailer:

Blog post:

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/03/27/velocity-ultra-on-ps-vita-new-trailer-and-details/

Love this:

Velocity on minis was critically celebrated (lots of 9/10 review scores), but many people suggested improvements to the game to make it a ‘must buy’.

So we began scouring the internet for every Velocity write up we could find; professional and hobbyist, as well as YouTube comments and forum threads around the world. We took all the feedback into account, and addressed all of the major requests (as well as some of the minor).

Many people thought Velocity was a bargain on minis because of the sheer amount of content we managed to squeeze into it, and now Sony has made it official by classifying the game as ‘Large’ when allocating trophies for the new release – which means Velocity Ultra has lots of trophies, including a Platinum! You’re gonna to have to work for that platinum.

Velocity Ultra features global and friend online leaderboards, as well as something called the Elite Lounge, which is a bit like an exclusive club for awesome players. To find out more about the Elite Lounge, check this link.

We’ve given the entire game a native graphics facelift with a more contemporary art style. We were so happy with the new art we put nice pictures up on our studio wall.

Two highly requested features for the PS Vita version that, to be perfectly honest, don’t really work very well in our opinion, but you wanted them, so we put them in so you can make up your own mind: touch to teleport, and bombs on the right analog stick. We also took this opportunity to give Velocity Ultra as much user experience attention as possible, so the UI is redesigned giving you more options for navigating in menus (for example, you can now select a different zone on the level complete screen) and we’ve smoothed off all the rough edges. The most important refinement for me was getting the music to fade out before a new track begins!

Overall, Velocity Ultra is prettier, more polished and properly integrated into the PlayStation ecosystem, which makes it ultimately better than the original release. Hopefully now we won’t have to worry about Robin. ;)
