Playstation Vita

Unit 13 has been in a couple of previous sales. It was mentioned on the EU blog recently that it wouldn't be coming to PSN+ in the near future, but I imagine it will turn up sooner or later. Just to clarify though - don't play the demo. It's a fair misrepresentation of the game, suggesting it's a low rent Rainbow Six copy. It's actually one of the tightest, most impressive score attack games ever made. Like The Club, only done right/better (depending on your opinion of The Club). Stellar level design, beautiful structure to the progression and a perfect fit for the Vita. Highly recommended.

Oddworld HD is a fantastic port, but it's worth remembering it's a fantastic port of a Xbox game. A great Xbox game, granted, but a title beginning to show a few rough edges. Technically though it's a marvel - the only criticism you could level at it is that it has a slightly muted colour palette and some smudgy textures compared to the PS3 version. Oh, and some of the controls are less than ideal, but they've promised to patch that.

I'd add in a recommendation for Motorstorm RC. If it gets its hooks into you then it'll really get its hooks into you. Yes, it's on PS3, but it's tailor made for the Vita and if you have friends who have played it too, then time chasing can be murderously addictive. it's also cheap as chips.

Welcome! Just remember, now that you have plus, to 'buy' every free game that's available now. Even if you don't download them, once you've added them to your basket and checked out they remain part of your library to download for as long as you're a member of PS+ - even once they've been replaced with new titles come the next month (e.g. once MGS HD collection is no longer part of the PS+ library, you'll still be able to download it if you'd checked it out before it had stopped being given away).

And yes: Persona 4: Golden is amazing and perfect for the Vita (and I'm saying this as a non-JRPG fan). Other brilliant games are Virtue's Last Reward, Everybody's Golf and Wipeout 2048; Gravity Rush is excellent too, but obviously you already have that :)

A few things.

Lumines is great, however I never get round to playing it, as each session ends up lasting a couple of hours at least. Wonderful game though.

Persona 4 Golden. Enough has been said, best experience I've had in gaming for so many years.

Uncharted. It really works on the handheld and was a joy to play.

Everybody's Golf. Enough cannot be said for just how much fun this is.

Treasures Of Mentezuma Blitz. It is free and is probably the best 'match 3' game out there.

Motorstorm RC is a fun little game and can be had fairly cheap.

I could go on and on actually.

You will start off thinking you can manage you games rather easily, but soon you will have a massive backlog... Dokuro, Escape Plan, MLB12, MGS HD, Oddworld, Wipeout, Virtue's Last Reward, to name but a few on my backlog. Even if Sony ditched the Vita (like some had predicted), then you'd easily get plenty of value from what is already out there.

Woah....hold on a sec....this can play PSP games on download (or a big chunk of them anyway!!!). That is amazing, didn't know that at all....of course it's a double edged sword though, I have more than enough to be getting on with at the moment anyway. But as someone who has never owned a PSP this is a bit of an added bonus. How are they on the VITA...do they look and run ok? I won't ask if there are any stone cold PSP classics I should download and play (of course if someone wants to suggest something anyway and I happen to just accidentally buy it then that can't be helped). Wish I had a bigger memory card as I would be downloading Persona 4 Golden right now :)

Better than they do on PSP! They look amazing on the Vita's screen and run perfectly (sometimes slightly better as the Vita removes slowdown in some instances), Plus you can remap the controls so you can use the second stick for camera support on certain games too.

The PSP's got too many great games to count but my personal favourites would be Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together, Persona 3 Portable and Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness. :)

There are a few PSP games which the Vita really improves - particularly those in 3rd person which previously forced you to awkwardly use the D-Pad to swing a camera around. Just use the Vita's menu to remap that to the 2nd stick and in one or two cases it's like playing a whole new game. 3rd Birthday in particular (already one of my favourite PSP games) benefited vastly from the transition.

Just ordered one from eBay, largely thanks to the positivity in here. Free games from PS+ helps as well. No doubt it'll just become a portable Jet Set Radio box, but for a little over £150 with an 8 GB card and 3 games, I'll get my money's worth I reckon.

I'm totally in love with my Vita already, and although I got a second hand one I didn't quite get the deal that you managed so that seems like a steal to me. It really is a little box of wonder and PS+ adds massive value. Finding out it could also play a bing chunk of PSP games on download was a revelation to me too, I'd always wanted to try Ridge Racer on the PSP so being able to download it last night was a huge bonus (as I didn't previously know much about the Vita so had no idea to could do this).

Not at all. Some people have issues with the controls, but for me it plays just fine. Only played it briefly on my 360, but it feels like the controls work better on the Vita. One of my favourite Vita games for sure

Jet Set Radio looks truly stunning on the Vita. Love that game.

One of my favourite DC games so that is next on my list as soon as I get a bigger memory card. Can anyone explain how cloud saving works with PS+? (I read that you get 1GB for cloud based saves, is this something I need to turn on. I assume that once this is active I can delete games from my memory card and then redownload at a later stage and continue from where I left off...would certainly help with memory management although think I will end up going for a 32GB card anyway).

It's a bit unintuitive. You go in through the Content Manager app - > Online Storage then on the game list click the wee "i" on the right and tick the "Upload Automatically" box. Or you can just do it manually from there.

You need to leave it in sleep mode and (I think) be on the home screen for it to upload your saves but that mode uses very little power from my experience. Mine uploads overnight but I'm not sure if this is a standard thing or if it's borrowing the setting from my PS3 where I have it set to upload at 4am every day, I can't see an option on the Vita to specify an actual time.

Thanks, most helpful. Also, for a moment I thought I was living in some kind of alternate universe where you could go to the high street and purchase things you need. Crazy, I know. So I tried to pick up a 16GB memory card and Persona 4 Golden and even though there were 5 different possibilities in town the only thing I managed to find was one solitary 4GB memory card in the Sony Centre for £25 (errr....no thanks). No Persona anywhere, no big memory cards (even though there were a ton of 'boxes' at HMV saying 'please take to the counter', but of course they didn't actually have any). Anyhoo, most annoying as I really didn't expect it to be that much of a challenge, so will just go back to my usual route and order online (I will get a 32GB card instead) and remember to not bother leaving the house in future!! I'm only being impatient as I have a ton of stuff I want to download and 4GB doesn't really allow for that, but I will revert to actually playing the thing and wait until the new card arrives for more downloading fun.

What is ToMB? And how much is PS+?

I'll probably get a vita when I'm back in the UK and have that as my solitary machine, really sounds like they have sorted out exactly how to run an online gaming store properly with attractive prices, wish the cards weren't so prohibitively expensive.

Treasures of Montezuma Blitz. Fantastic match 3 type puzzle game.

PS+ is about £40 per year, but you can get it cheaper if you shop around

Never felt the need to pay anything (well bar wanting to reward them). It takes a while to get used to things and how best to attack the game, but after a while you build up crystals and lives like a boss.

Is it really all that? I see it praised in here so often, I downloaded it. All I see is a bog-standard freemium game, that's quite stingy about how long and when I can play it.

After all the praise here, I played it a bit and was very much "that's it?"

The scoring mechanisms seemed wrong, I could barely get anywhere and the time limit seemed very short. I put it down thinking I was never going to play it again because it was fairly rubbish.

10 hours later, I'm at level 32, scoring 4 million in a round and I can't get enough.
