Playstation Vita

All the indie stuff coming will save the Vita, if anything.

Again, that will help the gaming crowd, but won't sell to the average 16-25 year old. The Vita needs a mix of games to sell to everyone.

A good value bundle released with a 32GB card, 3 months PS+ a big budget game (Killzone, Batman, or something) and download codes to 1-3 Indie titles would be a great package to get people on board. At a good price for the consumer of course. I'm not talking anything silly like £150 for that lot. It would be a fair amount more. But if consumers can get all that in a bundle, of say £249.99 (WiFi) then they have A system, plus maybe 6 games straight away to get started, then with the PS+ sub, the temptation is there to spend more by keeping that going and buying more with the regular discounts.

I think people hearing how space on a card runs out quickly, then the cost of buying a larger capacity card puts many off too. I'd love to know the actual manufacturing costs of a memory card.

Guys, I really want to buy a Vita but I've convinced myself that there's going to be a price drop any day now. I don't really know what I'm basing that belief on though. I guess because there was one in Japan recently.

Has there been any indication at all that they are going to cut the price in Europe? I know they officially said that there are no plans to do so, but they're always gonna say that, right? What are the rumours saying? What do the smart, in-the-know Vita types like you people think?

To be honest, getting a Vita, PS+ and Persona... you will get more than your monies worth at the current price. There are also a crap ton of cracking games to be had.

If there is a price drop, it will happen around E3 at best. Sony EU announced that the Vita did really good sales numbers in the UK, so I doubt they are desperate for a price drop yet.

Love my Vita, think I've said that before. Possibly also mentioned before: Virtua Tennis 4 is only £6.97 on Amazon.

As far as pick up and play goes, that's pretty hard to beat! Apologies if it's cheaper elsewhere, just saying really :)

Cheers! Brought!

Edit: WTF?! Why'd it repeat my post 4 times?!

I don't think there's that much to be gained from a price cut right now. It might drive up interest a bit, but I'd say it makes more sense for Sony to hold the line until later in the year when there are 'big' games coming out and Yen conversion rates aren't so punishing. Personally I wouldn't expect an announcement until E3.

To be honest you might as well buy a Vita now. Memory card prices are a joke, but the actual machine can be reliably found for under 150 quid new with a game if you shop around online; GAME were recently selling pre-owned models for 110.

MLB 12 The Show is pretty good isn't it. I'm playing it on easy because any difficulty level above that means I never get a hit and give up lots of easy base hits but on this difficulty I concentrate on pitching and batting and leave the fielding to the AI. It looks and sounds great as well, some of the best commentary I've heard in a sports game although I'm sure that will start to repeat the more I play it.

Really? Link me please!

Not sure if there are any such deals right this moment, but cheap bundles through Amazon's mainland European sites have been pretty common; Amazon.de were selling a Vita & LBP for £135 roughly two weeks ago.

Cheers for the tip off, got it myself even though I'm enjoying Resistance, MLB 12 and want to get on the Persona 4 bandwagon soon.

You know what I find weird about the Vita? Everyone says that it has no games. But that's not true. The Vita has around a dozen games I want to play (Demon Souls, PSO, P4G, Unit 13, Everybody's Golf, EDF, MGS:Collection, Wipeout, Superstardust, Rayman, Ninja Gaiden to name a few).

Demon's Souls is on the Vita? Or is this meant to be something else?

Also people have mentioned ToMB a couple of times, what's its full name?

(Need to find some time to play this fantastic machine since I finally picked it up)

The 3DS? Nothing. I've played Mario Kart a million times, Zelda: Oot half a dozen and the same for Mario.

Demon's Souls?

The thing with the Vita is that all of the good games you've mentioned (outside of Unit 13) are available, albeit some as similar prequels, on other systems. So it has no stand out "only on Vita" games apart from something like Gravity Rush. The convenience of playing console games on a handheld is a plus point but increasingly few people play handhelds outside of their homes so it's not as worthwhile to someone like me who has a PS3 and can/has played those games already.

You're also doing a disservice to the breadth of the 3DS software library but that's not really worth arguing about.

I think he means Soul Sacrifice.

ToMB = Treasures of Montezuma Blitz. It's free. And it's probably the best match 3 type game around on any system

When you get "good" at ToMB, how many crystals do you normally end up with per game?

I'm about level 9 and spent a fair while with totems and extras on with a rent of about 550 crystals and only ever got about 30 back. It was unsustainable.

There's a Crystal multiplier bonus that increases the number of crystals on the board at one time. That usually pays for itself but not all the time. I can get 600+ on a good go and and less than 100 in a poor go.

The crystal economy is vastly improved if you login every day though and play the daily scratch card game. I've banked over a 100k in a week and sometimes run games with a rent of over 2k!

I second ToMB!

Which flies in the face of my earlier comment that the Vita needs more great puzzle games a little. Can't believe I forgot ToMB when I made that post.

I couldn't agree more, best match 3 since zookeeper on the DS for me.

Oops double post... ToMB deserves it though ;)

I play my Vita more then any other console at the moment and this is done almost always at home. Not having to hog the TV from my wife and child allows me to sink hours on end into games like persona and everybody's golf which I would never be able to do on the big telly. So if anything it having multi platform games is a plus for me and will only get better with the PS4 streaming in the future.

And that is entirely fair.

But the ones who level the accusations of "no games" are the ones with absolute access to a TV and multiple consoles. Clearly it has games (otherwise what have I been doing with it for the past few months?) and taken on its own, it is a great machine with a good library. But in the context of the enthusiast player, it is a less appealing prospect because it lacks enough exclusive software.

I don't know. I'd consider myself an 'enthusiast' player, owning a Vita, a PS3, a 360 and a gaming PC (and having a PSP and DS which I ignore outright these days). I lack a 3DS ad a Wii U, but aside from that I can pick and choose when it comes to multiplatform releases. And I'd consider the Vita as having the second-best selection of releases over the past year, after only the PC. You're drastically over-estimating the number of exclusive software on any of the consoles, I think - the past year the PS3 has had worthwhile exclusives in Journey, Tokyo Jungle and... er, that's all I can think of. The 360 has had... Fez? You also seem to have some interesting definitions of what is merely a port or adaptation - including Wipeout 2048 suggests you've not actually played it and/or other Wipeout games, as it's completely standalone, in the same way that Wipeout HD was completely standalone from the Wipeouts which came before. Or the way that Street Fighter 4 isn't Street Fighter 3.

So, yes, a lot of the Vita's releases are ports or (more commonly) adaptations of existing games. But then, that's exactly the same for all the consoles at the moment - any 'big' game is going to be put out on as many consoles as possible by its publisher, and in being both a handheld and not far short of current-gen consoles in power, the Vita is getting ports from all areas. That doesn't make its limited number of exclusives (games like Wipeout 2048, Gravity Rush, Soul Sacrifice) a weakness in a market where all of the consoles want for exclusives. The vast majority of 'enthusiast' gamers who deride the console are predominantly ones who simply haven't allowed themselves to sample the games released for it.

Quick straw poll: Everybody's Tennis or Virtua Tennis 4? Both are about the same price at the moment.

Also when was the last time there was a PSP sale? Looks like it might've been June searching back through the thread. I'll be fucked if I'm paying £24 for Persona 3, as great as I'm sure it is.

Not meaning to fan the flames of war, but it is an interesting comparison when you consider what Vita is always accused of.

Yeah.. it's a comparison I'm making because the 3DS XL is currently on offer here for 150 EUR. But it's not worth it. A Vita at 250 EUR is better value. Just can't bring myself to order it when you know full well there's a price cut coming :-/

We have no TV, and when we did have one I could never game on it because the Mrs wanted to watch something on it..
