I found this a very interesting read, Just Add Water talking about porting Strangers Wrath to Vita. Some of the things they did are being added to the ps3 version.

Some interesting general Vita comments in there:

Dev tools sound good

It seems cross save is limited to 1mb.

I've had a couple of games where it disables the network upon loading (Gravity rush for example), it seems this comes from the GPU clockspeed being increased at the expense of the wifi. Doing so must reduce battery usage.

I've often wondered how PSN tackles being signed in on both a ps3 and a vita at the same time.

Currently I have my ps3 and both vita's on and signed in. I have games running on all three machines and the UK+Jp accounts are friends. On the PS3 it doesn't display a game, something I had assumed was because not all games broadcast their name, but may well just be it ignoring it's own game on your own system.

On the Vita is seems to go by what is playing when you last sign in, which means it changes a lot depending on how many times the wifi connection is on and off (a lot if entering power saving). Ps3 seems to ignore Vita sign ins completely as my Jp account does not show as online even though it is.

I had more people 'online' in my PS3 friends list yesterday, who weren't tagged as doing anything, than in the top right of the screen. I wondered what was going on, and figured they could be signed in on Vita.

Got my launch unit a little brother to play with. A wifi Vita setup for the Japanese Plus account I bought earlier in the weak. I timed that Plus account well, I activated all the downloads just a couple of hours before they updated the store so I ended up with two months worth of Vita, PS3, Neo Geo and PC Engine games on the first day of having the sub.

Incidentally, PSO2 is supposed to be out in Japan next week :) I never seemed to get anywhere with the PC game but it'll be interesting to see how the Vita version is received...

Since I got a Vita I've played a lot of Little Big Planet which looks pretty nice, Everybody's Golf which looks OK (I might be more impressed if I'd played the PSP version more recently for comparison) and Virtue's Last Reward which is sharp and stylish but not a game that lavishes attention on the visual side. So I was really surprised when I tried Marvel for the first time there and it's properly Marvel, like from the big consoles! I have no idea how they achieve this witchcraft, it's fast and smooth and absurdly beautiful on that wee screen. And I still can't play it which was much less of a surprise, couldn't even beat Galactus.

Yeah, I love MVC3 on the Vita, it's fantastic.

Played through the 2048 and 2049 leagues in Wipeout this afternoon. Really enjoyed it. Got Lumines, Mortal Kombat and Gravity Rush queued up, and Uncharted 15% complete on my memory card.

PS+ really does pay for itself in the first month. I can only wish it's a sustainable and profitable business model that the other console manufacturers or even publishers pick up on.

If I had a PS3, I'd probably explode with joy. So. Many. Free (ish). Games.

Little event happened the other day I forgot to post as a heads up. Plus ended 18th, I renewed a couple of days later. Went back to Wipeout, online features not accessible, kept telling me to buy a online pass.

Went back to store, checked that the game does indeed come with the online pass, came back to the game. Still the same thing. Checked saves, theres a add-on content for Wipeout with a expiry date (have a guess - 18th). No idea why it wouldn't renew/update, but it stayed like that and I realised that was the problem.

Deleted Wipeout, redownloaded. Online functions working now.

Just a word of warning then for letting your PS+ lapse, shit like this can occur that needs to be fixed.

Think I had something similar going when I downloaded the PS3 HD and Fury packs. After downloading them I couldn't access online leader boards or multiplayer and was asked for a long binned network pass. I did find the network pass amongst my download history though and after redownloading that all was fine.

Cheers for that Moz, about in line with what I'd decided I'd be willing to pay following that price drop in Japan. Can't imagine getting one much cheaper for a fair while.

Do you know if it's just a case of getting the UK cable that fits into the power adapter (like so) or do you have to get the adapter itself too?

Hyped!

I've been pondering a Vita. Is this a good price? I've heard that it might be getting a price cut soon.

I'd be surprised if it went down below £150 in the price cut. Obviously that'll then bring out a few discounts from retailers, but I'd not expect to be able to get one with LBP for that after the cut although it'd probably be very close.

I'd think of it as getting it early, rather than getting a bargain.

I'm officially on the Vita wagon. Got an 8GB card, vita and a PS+ sub waiting for me on Saturday.

Literally the only reason I've bought one is PS+. I'm always really tight about handheld games as in my mind I'd rather spend the money on a console or PC game, so this seems excellent. Plus you get to try new things you otherwise wouldn't.

Although, Persona 4 looks like it might make me actually buy a game.

Making slow progress on P4G due to a busy weekend, but it is so engaging and as a perfect fit for the Vita, being able to play it in small chunks, or longer sessions.

It'll probably take me longer than most to finish, but already shaping up as one of my Games of the Year.

Urban Trials is really scratching my "one last go" itch. And the challenges leaderboards are great, although people seem to be taking some very weird and wonderful pics to represent themselves on said leaderboards with: topless lady, blackness, topless lady, nothing, naked lady... You get the point.

You should've got a bigger card. That'll fill up very quickly.

It comes with an 8GB card. I was going to upgrade to a 16GB one but thought I should just hang on until the 32GB card is a bit cheaper. Meanwhile, I don't mid just deleting games when I'm done with them. Uncharted seems to be the only one over 2GB so if I can fit 3 on there at a time after that, I'll be happy.

The prices of these things is absurd.

So I jumped into this assuming that one way or another I'd be able to play 60hz PS1 games (at worst via my US account) but looking into it and searching through this thread it appears that probably isn't going to be the case without locking myself out of my UK Plus subscription which would obviously be cutting my nose off to spite my face. Surely adding a 'force 60hz' mode on the hardware side wouldn't be too difficult? Amazing that we're still dealing with this stuff in 2013.

I see that the versions of Resi 2 and 3 on the UK store apparently run at 60hz, are there any more? And out of curiosity, does anyone know why those two are excepted from the usual 50hz policy?

Cheers, at least I know now! Was really looking forward to a bit of Ridge Racer Type 4 on the go and maybe finally playing FFIX. There's a fair bit of stuff I'd buy if only it'd work OK. I suppose it's something that one of the exceptions is Klonoa which I've never played so I'll get that at least.

Fingers crossed they do something about it at some stage but I guess it's probably pretty low on their list of priorities.

Speaking of Ridge Racer, what's the best option there? I know the Vita version had a really awful paid DLC model but is the Ultimate version worth it at £20? Or am I better off going for the PSP versions?

It does if you have a US PSN account. Its just not certified on any/many other countries Playstation Store, AFAIK.

Um... it works fine on my Vita? Or at least it did, as I haven't fired it up in a couple of months and I don't currently have it on my memory card. But it definitely did. And that's the US version bought on a UK PSN account, on a UK Vita registered to the same UK PSN account.

I've not had much chance to really play with this yet. I've grabbed a PS+ sub so I've played some Lumines, I'm in ch2 of Uncharted (finding aiming a bit fiddly), done some races in Wipeout, and the into to Gravity Rush. I haven't started P4G yet as I know that'll just absorb me totally :)

It's a really nice bit of kit, not too keen on the way they've done the main UI though (fewer bubbles, more functional icons pls). What has surprised me a bit is my attitude towards handheld/mobile gaming, despite owning a DS & PSP in recent years all my mobile game has been done on an iphone & ipad, and it's somewhat reprogrammed my expectations of what a handheld game is. These are 'full' games (for want of a better term) rather than the bite sized experiences on mobile, this really hit home with Gravity Rush which I went into not knowing much except it's meant to be good. Japan Studio, nice, they generally make good games. Wait, what, a full blown intro & opening credits...

Just started Gravity Rush myself. It's lovely.

If you want free cheapo stuff on your Vita, Jetpack Joyride and Treasures Of Montezuma Blitz are both free from the store, as is Super Stardust Portable (the PSP version - obviously doesn't look as nice as Delta but still good fun).
