Like RJ says it's a bit like the Final Fantasy series in that it (Persona and SMT) is only connected by a few common themes - the demon summoning, the way dungeons are explored, the negotiating... The mechanics and structure of the first two Persona games is quite different to that of the PS2 games - you've still got floor-by-floor exploration, the map that needs to be uncovered as you explore, the elemental affinities, the personae themselves, but the earlier games don't have as much emphasis on town activities and the battles are random and more frequent, which can be very offputting when you're just trying to get your bearings after leaving one battle and immediately walk into another...

I've nearly finished 4 (which got a bit tedius at times due to the combat), would playing 3 be too much of a step back from 4 to really get into it? I'll need to give it a break given the combat looks and sounds very similar, but it's definitely something I'm intrigued to play.

Nope, I don't think so. Personally, I think the shift in quality/gameplay was biggest from 2 to 3. 3 and 4 are quite similar, you only have to look at some gameplay footage to see the similarities. Essentially, you'd be playing the same game, but with new characters and a new storyline! I'm not sure how much it is in the sale, but if it's anywhere around £10/£15, it's a blimmin' bargain.

Alas, it's £24. Too expensive really, especially as I really should have a break before playing it - I'll wait until I see it in a sale. Thanks for the info though :D

Oh, that's silly. It's $19.99 on the US store, what a swiz. It has been $9.99 before in a sale too, so keep your eyes peeled, will no doubt come down at some point.

So - does anyone have the backup battery? Worth it if your doing a fair bit of travel?

I'm definitely on the market for one as I have a long flight at the end of March. Although I'll be getting something generic that will power all my devices (although I imagine the Sony Vita branded one would do that anyway).

...I thought so too - bought an iAnker battery with 1V and 2V USB outputs (2V gives some speedy iPad charging, 1V is for all the other devices)

Vita-compatibility was listed, but only more recent comments on Amazon.co.uk prove what I've been thinking: since some recent firmware, USB charging is either temporarily botched or they somehow made sure you can only charge it with their official charge (in that case OH SONY)

Tip: if you're gonna buy the official charger anyway, might as well order it from Amazon.de - quite a lot cheaper

A friend of mine has the official portable battery charger and he loves it. Naturally, it'll charge any other USB devices too.

Folks on GAF think its just the dev kit, they do have some Vita rumours about a possible 4G version though and other possible reveals at the Sony Conference on 20th

With the one year anniversary of the PlayStation Vita fast approaching in North America, sources (who have requested that we keep anonymous) have hinted at the possibility of an upgraded model coming sooner than most may have expected.

Although the credibility of this report comes into question by myself and my colleagues, these are the details nonetheless:

A new 4G model of the PlayStation Vita will be replacing the 3G model sometime this year. According to the source, this will be the so-called “price drop” that has been rumored for the Vita as the new model will retain the $299 price point for an upgraded system.

The Wi-Fi version will still be available on the market for $249

To go along with the 4G model, a significant firmware update will go live bringing in a lot of requested features including new ways to organize apps in folders.

The new model may be unveiled along with the rumored PS4 this month at PlayStation’s February 20th event or at E3, but will not hit the market until later in the year.

A price cut on memory cards will be made. No details on prices.

According to the source, no other hardware changes will be made to the Vita and all other specs and features will remain the same. As for the 4G model, the regions where it will be available, in addition to info on any data plan pricing was not available.

As stated before, this is a rumor and credibility comes into question, so take it with a whole pile of salt, if you would like; But it should be interesting if it really pans out. We will reach out to Sony to see if they have any comment on this.

Cheaper memory cards and a way to organise your Home screen properly would be most welcome!

TV out would actually be pretty cool to have as an option.

I think it's an important feature not for the everyday user but things like Giantbomb's Quick Looks. I feel a lot of good Vita games go overlooked by virtue of not having such video exposure, contributing the the "Vita has no games" perception.

If it were me in charge, I'd cut it down in spec, not upwards. Ditch the 3G model entirely, rather than upgrade to 4G. Take out the AR stuff, and therefore webcam. Make the model choice a full-fat Wi-Fi one with camera etc, and a low-fat basic one with everything not for actual games stripped out.

Problem you then have, is games start to lose features. True, not essential features, but still they are lost. Everybody's Golf for example, using the camera as a background.

You will also have full games that won't work at all.

1. Cheaper memory cards

2. Price cut for the actual Vita

3. A genuinely decent killer game for the masses (COD etc but not a rubbish version)

Sony need that lot sharpish. I'd imagine 1& 2 are on their way.

I need a new memory card myself but even at second hand prices I'm thinking about the purchase rather than diving in.

I just bought Virtue's Last Reward so that should be a shoe-in for PS+ next month. I wish all the games I wanted to play (this, Okami, Persona 4) weren't so bloody long.

Totally agree with that. I buy games but never play them sometimes purely because I know they'll require a huge time investment. I did it with Final Fantasy XIII, Persona 3, AC:R, and many more RPGs on psone

So instead of having a Vita with a 3G feature that nobody uses, there'll be a Vita with a 4G feature that nobody uses

I'd love to see how many people actually use the 3G or even top it up each month. For less money you can get PS Plus, which is a much better investment.
