IV had a prologue and 'after years' added on Wiiware in episodic form. I think this version just adds it all together. FFVII still holds up, I mean it looks a bit dodgy but the game itself is still class. I would still rate it as my favourite game ever.

6 is good to, although there's a bit early on where you have to put in some special combination to pull off a special move which is rather annoying. I think I had to go online to actually find what the combination was.

The important thing to remember is that VIII is a pain.

The naming issue is with FFIII.

I would go with FVII then FVI and then IX.

A kind relative is gifting me a PS+ 12 month code. Just wondering if there's any reason to not use it straight away. I have a couple, but not all, of the current game library games (uncharted, Gravity Rush), but do the games available now disappear from the library as they add new ones (i.e have uncharted and gravity rush already gone?). Or will the current games stay free? No idea how this works, which is the best resource to find out (aside from here!)

They're taken off, so if you want any that are on now you'll need to redeem now.

But as Avuncular says, once you "have" them, you have them until you stop paying even when they slide off the service.

Cheers. So, as I already have the big two of the four Vita games on at the moment, and am not interested in PS3 content, what's the general view on Knytt and Big Sky Infinity? Great games, good in their genres, or not so much?

GAh, I was super looking forward to JSR but I just can't play it. The controls are hideous, I'm really slow, my jumps never seem to actually land on what I'm trying to get on to, I keep getting the crap kicked out of me by the police and I can't get enough air to grab most of the mid air souls. Wah wah, I'm bad at games etc, but any hints? Am I just doing it wrong?

I didn't seem to have trouble with the DC version. Maybe I was just young and better at computers then. I might just start that NGP Persona 4 playthrough instead.

That was my experience as well. I just assumed I'm rusty or never was as good at the game as I remembered, but in terms of the gameplay it was a horrible trip down memory lane. Better controls would have changed everything. It still looks great and the concept hasn't aged at all.

The controls were always like that, our standards are sadly higher nowadays :(

That's basically it, it's not a case of feeling too 'mature' or being scared of what people think - I just don't identify with characters and plot-lines based on kids in a high-school. I feel like I've moved on from the point in my life where I'd identify with that.

Despite absolutely loving p3p I do agree that the school kids setting didn't work that well with me. You have got to see past it though because it is a truly special game. Can't wait to get into 4 at some point.

I don't understand the difference between these two links, as it brings up the same title? I'm assuming it's an error and it should be Dissidia and the follow up Dissidia 012. I'd find it odd that they'd have a FF sale and only include one of the two.

ANYWAY. Anyone that hasn't played these are in for a treat. For the price of a couple of pints and some Dry Roasted Nobby's Nuts, this is awesome value. They are crazy RPG/beat 'em ups based in the FF universe. Here's Edge and EG's old reviews for the first (personally, I prefer the follow up) and also a short video of some of the fucking mental moves.

That's pretty much how I remember JSR to be honest (although I think twin-sticks are an improvement) so I wasn't too disappointed as I already had low expectations. I did have a weird issue with in-game loading that saw me skating into invisible space, and some of the OST is inferior to what was on the PAL DC disc, but everything else is as I'd expect. :)

EDIT: and Dissidia is awesome - I'm not a big FF fan but I really liked the combat system once it "clicked". :) I've only played the first game though...

I would wait for the Feb update (not sure if mortal kombat is still available), ie knytt and big sky aren't great

My housemate is largely obsessed with Big Sky for some reason. It didn't click with me.

I think MK would likely come off when the first Feb update actually happens. You should be able to redeem the 12 months the day before, get it and then be ready.

That was me and Bradigor. Almost bought FFVII over the weekend but thought this was bound to happen. Glad I waited now,

Yep, just hope my partner gets paid enough now, that I can actually afford it this month.

Im sure somebody said they were wating for a Final Fantasy sale - you're in luck:

just a random note that FFI, II and IV are good if you are learning Japanese as you can switch between the english and japanese text/menus through the settings screen at any time on the world map/field screens.

I realise that it's probably not a feature that is going to appeal to most people, but it is what it is.

Glad I'm not the only one struggling with JSR's controls. It's heartbreaking really, I love everything about it except those mind-numbingly shit controls. It's not the Vita is it - was it that twitchy on the Dreamcast? I remember it being easier [/rosetintedglasses]

I played JSR for the first time a few years ago and couldn't believe how shit the controls were. At that time it was heralded as a classic. I went back to jsrf on Xbox a couple of years ago and managed to look past the controls and enjoy it.

I think it is a case of us now expecting much better controls rather than the vita version being broken.

A word to the wise re: Dissidia games. They are resolutely RPG fighters. Grinding for levels, grinding for equipment, grinding for item ingredients, and a fucking Godawful story mode are standard fare.

I'm actually of the opinion that the second game is more bloated than the first (although that may be down to fatigue, I put in a lot of hours) - you need to go through both 012 and the included first Dissidia games' story mode to unlock the Labyrinth, a sprawling endless mode that provides most of the item ingredients, and it's been made even more grind-worthy in 012.

There is an arcade mode of sorts, where pre-levelled characters can be used. But it won't contribute to the levelling or item ingredients and you won't have access to all of the moves each character can learn.

If this hasn't put you off, good. They are great if not clunky games. But best not approached as fighters.

I still play JSRF, I love it and I have no problems with the controls on that at all, the trick system is certainly better. I suppose I just assumed it controlled the same. I'll stick at it a little longer and see how I get on. It might just click again.
