I'm on 85 hours and still going.

You see on one hand that is stunning value for money as I know its going to be excellent. On the other hand it terrifys me as putting that much time into a game just means that my pile of shame builds up and UP AND UP. Last time I put that much time into a game was Skyrim and by the end I was nearly crying because I felt like I had missed out on so much else.

I hate this hobby sometimes.

You mean your rank? Each game is an individual game, and only your best score each week counts towards the weekly tournament. It doesn't cumulatively add them up of that's what you're asking?

ahhh, think that explains it. cheers!

Hah, I haven't done much else since I got it. But I have been playing it during every single scrap of spare time, I've even caught the bus to work instead of cycling to get an extra 45 minutes on it. :D I did manage to tear myself away for Journey and a Walking Dead episode, only because they are so short though! It's so easy to just play for 30 minutes at a time, or even 10 to just do a social link or study or go to a job, it'll all help. Basically just play it now. You won't regret it!

It's quite different to P3, the battle system is much improved in my opinion and if you don't clear the dungeon in time it'll take you back a week to try again so you won't ever really get totally stuck. If you buld up the social links with your team members they get lots of cool stuff to do in battle. It is Persona through and through though - I reckon you'd love it! It's nice that the social links are more connected this time, you'll hang out with more than just one person and it'll amke you closer to everyone. AND you can get costumes to wear in dungeons - at the moment my male ones look like the guys out of Ouendan and the girls are sexy santas.

So good to see more people enjoying Golden. Now that I've got the last skill for the pentagon fusion I'm doing crazy damage to bosses but the HP cost is a bit much at my current level :P

Yiggy - P4 is different enough to be worth a look if you took an interest in P3, and Golden adds loads of great little changes to the PS2 game without taking anything away from the original experience. Like Laine, it hasn't made my pile of shame look any less, well, shameful - having it come through the door just before Christmas meant that other gaming presents have ended up a little neglected :( - but it is still so much fun. :D

You've finished it a couple of times, right? Any advice on my ending questions a few posts back? Think I'm missing the true final boss fitght or something.

Also Kanji is the best rpg character ever

YES. The scenes towards the end of his social link are amazing. It's making me want to start knitting again.

There is a last boss but its location is so fucking cryptic the first time that I can't see how people can find it without a guide. Then again I felt that way when answering Yosuke's questions on the path to the "good" ending. Anyway, as with P3, you'd normally end the game by speaking to all of your maxed social links before choosing to leave town and watch the credits roll, and this is where the true ending path is hidden:

When you speak to each maxed social link for the last time, you'll get the message "there are still other people you haven't said goodbye to yet" or whatever, and when you've spoken to the last one you'll be asked if you want to return home. Choosing Yes will force you onto the "good" ending path, but if you want the final dungeon and the best ending, choose No. Instead, go to Junes and take the elevator. No matter what the prompts say, make sure you don't choose to go home, as you have unfinished business. There will be a scene where the investigation team get together and reminisce, but then something comes up which prompts you to continue investigating, and you'll need to think back to your first days in Inaba. After speaking with the team, you can go to the flood plain and find Dojima and Nanako at the riverbed. You'll then talk with them about your first day arriving - where you spoke to the gas station attendant at Moel - and after you're done talking you need to book it to the Velvet Room (via the door in the shopping district.) Igor will give you an item that "reveals the truth" or something. With this in hand, you need to find the gas station attendant in the southern end of the shopping district and speak with her to trigger a scene. She'll get a bit annoyed with all of your questions, but don't back down.

Like I said: cryptic.

With regards to bad and worse endings, I believe that things can get worse; a search on Youtube will reveal results for a "bad ending", an "even worse ending" and more. Me, I got one bad ending and that was enough for me, so I haven't looked into the others...

Great, thanks! I assumed it was before you go and say goodbye to everyone. I'll save that for my max social link hard run then. :D

First time round I missed the good ending path by getting one response to Yosuke wrong which was really annoying. I am now very intrigued about the even worse bad endings too!

I do feel your pain, I do, but just get it. :) You'll find the time somewhere, somehow. I have likened P4 to Animal Crossing in a way, as in it's a game that I dip in and out of on a regular basis, to lightly chip away at the massive hole of this living, breathing world....sometimes getting a few chunky hours in to further the story proper. I've not found it detrimental to play it this way, so don't let that get in the way of purchasing it. I'm probably 30 or so hours in.

Is that Persona thingie also fun for people who hate J-RPGs?

It depends what you hate about JRPGS. There are no random battles in the game, you can always see an enemy before it attacks and can avoid them if you want to but there's a lot more character interaction and things to do compared to the a standard JRPG. I'd definitely recommend playing it but you might want to wait for when cheap physical copies become available if you're unsure.

Just 2 weeks now until EDF 2017 Portable comes out :D Can't bloody wait, especially for the online coop to see how it is.

Anyone else here getting it ? I think it's a digital only release though.

I'm definitely picking it up. Slightly miffed that it's digital only, though, because my 16gig memory card is full, so I'm going to need to buy a 32gig just for this.

That's not stopping me though. I'll still be there day one.

It's a cross between a japanese visual novel (But with more user actions available) and a roguelike with classic turn based jrpg combat. If you don't like interacting with anime characters for hours on end or dressing a teddy bear up as a cheerleader then it's probably not for you. If it clicks though you'll be utterly hooked.

The Eurogamer review might be helpful http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-12-12-persona-4-golden-review

Not seen it mentioned here but Tomba and Alundra have now been fixed and run correctly in 60hz. that and Tomba 2 has been released. I tried Klonoa and that also seems nippier which is handy.

How are updates applied to PS1 games? As part of system updates?
