I tried that new twin-stick shooter that's free for Plus members again. What's it called? Boy is that a fucking shit game. Seriously, seriously shit. A lesson in how not to do a shmup even if it's of the twin-stick kind. First time I played it was on the bus so I couldn't hear the speaker guy. Just that guy alone makes this game utter, utter trash. What a massive waste of time.

It's a mystery how so many devs get the basics wrong and continue to make awful shit shmups. Avoid this game at all cost.

It's not shit. You don't like it, fair enough, but I've played it for a few hours now and there's lots to like about it. You don't like the announcer, you can switch him off. By the standards of Sine Mora, it's not a fantastic horizontal shooter, no. But it's quite innovative and I like the structure and the multiplayer. I'm not sure what I'd judge it against really - there's nothing quite like it. It has the vague air of a cult classic, as so many people have played it for 2 minutes, declared it shit and deleted it. I'd not really come out and implore people to give it another try, but it's certainly better than the general sentiment directed towards it, and I'd rather devs tried experimenting and innovating within genres than just release cookie cutter versions of more successful games.

Cool, thanks Brad.

You were top of my friends list, is anyone else playing this? I picked it up for free this weekend.

Will check up Surge too, thanks for the suggestion

Have to agree, the Vita's D-pad is the best d-pad ever created. So wonderfully clicky. Clicky click click. Lovely action.

I usually dip into Montezuma once or twice a week to post a score, anyone playing please feel free to add me : CaptainCluke

I'm currently addicted to Montezuma so have added you both :)

I played it for two minutes and it seemed shit.

I'd also say it's not particularly innovative as a 2D shooter. It's certainly less interesting in its innovations than games that came out decades ago.

Well, it's innovative because most of the modes are randomly generated. Which isn't something I've seen before. Not just randomly generated attack patterns, but entirely randomly generated. Common wisdom would suggest that would totally bork any attempt to balance it, and make high scores a question of luck, which is true. From a purists perspective it's a disaster, but from a casual player's perspective I find it interesting. It also has a granular ship upgrade system, slightly peculiar mechanics in the drilling, recharging laser, twin sticks and "blobs" which you have to stay in to power up. It then adds in a sort of student/Monty Python humour, which is clearly designed to piss a majority of the people who play it off and make them angry. I really like it. It's sort of punk. When was the last time you downloaded a game and deleted it straight away because it irritated and annoyed you? Most games these days are halfway decent. 7/10. This is more divisive and it clearly doesn't really give much of a fuck, which I quite like.

It's very different to Chronosphere which is just shit. This isn't shit, it's sort of wilfully annoying with a lot of creative ideas but no clear idea on how to join everything together, so it's decided to sort of irritate and entertain the player in equal measure. It's basically Smitty in videogame form.

Is Need For Speed Most Wanted any good?

It's amazing! Best handheld racing game I've ever played. If you have a PS3, you can download a demo of the version for that. Give that a play, squint a bit and imagine you're actually playing it on your Vita and you're there - it's exactly the same game. More or less anyway, the graphics aren't quite as good and I think they're are less cars in each race.

Anyone getting the LBP2 Cross-Controller update?

Looks really fun, they seem to have really tapped in to how it should be working and hopefully other games can follow suit.

If devs for the PS4 can add in that extra screen function and not just by showing maps and things like that, then it could work really well. Especially if you could move from Cross-Controller, to portable back to big screen.

You could have something for example where you are playing a game that for one level requires you to do a bunch of things as per normal, then you need to take the Vita somewhere to take a picture (say of a tree) then bring it back to the main game and use that to complete a puzzle.

If they could get games to work fully using a normal controller, move, Vita, it could open up a lot of possibilities.

Of course not every game would need such usage, but would be a nice way to add something new.

Best racer on Vita, best mobile racing game ever, Burnout Paradise in your pocket. Slightly disappointing graphically initially until you realise it's the whole city from the PS3/X360 versions with a day night cycle etc.

Oh God, Persona 4 Golden just keeps giving. Just passed the point at which you'd reach the "good" ending on the PS2 game and it

reveals a whole new dungeon that wasn't in the original!

Very excited to try this, but also pretty nervous - until now I've had an idea of my levelling requirements for the game, so this is a bit of a curve ball.

Another big fan of Most Wanted on Vita. I have a music unlimited subscription too, which is great for having as my custom soundtrack on the game too.

Vita

So I can go to MU, start a playlist and then play a game while MU continues to run? I just assumed that would never work!

Only for music you've made available offline, sadly (and even then, you have to go to the 'offline' tab in MU to play it. Even if you've downloaded it, playing from the main screen will cause it to pause on leaving the player). Obviously won't work for PSP/PS1 games either, but that's understandable.

My Christmas gaming is going to be mental.

Nearly finished Gravity Rush, then will work through Mutant Blobs and Knytt Underground. However I want to buy Sound Shapes and either pick up VLR or import P4G.

I hate all of you who have Persona already :P
