Why is the Vita dying? :( Why isn't anyone buying it?

I love it so much.

Yeah, when will it? :( Really wanna play Super Crate Box on this thing.

It's making a come back, Loads of dad gamers I know are getting one for Xmas and there's been a significant spike in hardware sales in November already, thanks to the new bundles that at least now include (a tiny) memory card and a game.

In other news, I started MGS3 for the first time ever despite playing every other major game in the series (1,2,4 and PW). Bloody amazing looking game and so far works within the time frame of my tube journey.

A spike from practically nothing does not really suggest a comeback.

I'm going to put a supportive word in for Big Sky Infinity, which is curled up in a foetal position on places like NeoGAF as kicks rain in. I like it. In fact, after a shaky first hour together I think I really like it. It's irreverent, stupid, poorly balanced and has a terrible, eye-rolling, sense of humour. But it's also quite unlike anything else out there (the online implementation is great) - and after the rape references in the oh-so-serious-Sine Mora it's nice to play something that's utterly ridiculous.

I think Big Sky Infinity would have been a lot better received had it not included the "narrator", which is so dreadful and intrusive that it has a significant and entirely negative impact on almost everybody's first impressions, my own included. I've since turned the idiot off and played a little more, and there's at least enough there for me to give it another chance, but others won't be so forgiving, and I can hardly blame them.

I don't like Big Sky Infinity, yet I like playing it. It is such a weird feeling.

The random generated levels for me make the high score leaderboards a waste of time, as there is a huge element of luck as to how quickly you can rack up a score.

The narrator is annoying, though you can turn him off

There is no real explanation as to how it all works, nor how the upgrades are really affecting things.

Some of the bosses have no hints as to what you are meant to do, expecially that one that looks like it was robbed straight out of Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet.

Yet, somehow I do keep going back for another quick blast.

The tutorial is almost patronisingly worthless. Move the stick. Move the other stick. Press a button. Well done!

Then you enter the game proper and it's like "argh WTF is happening? The tutorial mentioned none of this!"

Weapons are lame. Enemies are lame. Some of the bullets don't even kill you. The manual consists of nothing but the mandatory warning pages. Some buttons fire you into the PSN store where there is nothing to actually buy. Frankly, if allusions to rape are the cost we must bear for a decent shmup, then so be it.

"Gordon Brown! Smeeeeeg!"

Big Sky Infinity seems pretty shit from what little I've played. It seems very Euro-shmuppy, with the imprecise floaty ship control, enemies who are difficult to see against the background and other stuff I haven't discovered yet. A proper shmup on the Vita would be a very nice thing to have.

Sine Mora is very cool although I can't get past a section on the 3rd stage.

Well, Vita has two "proper" shmups in Velocity and Sine Mora. SM is so eye wateringly beautiful it's like Jesus is licking your cornea. Plays pretty well too, though I think the Arcade and Score Attack modes are too difficult for mortals.

I switched the announcer off in Big Sky, but then I just switched him back on. It's so tragically lo-fi that I quite enjoy it. Also, if you read the text in the Library bit, it's quite amusing too. I do think the utterly random nature of it and total lack of explanation for.... well.... everything, is in a sense a strength. Sine Mora has pages of earnest exposition on the story and mechanics, yet I still don't fully understand it, even though I feel I should. BSI just sort of laughs, puts its arm around you and says "you know what, I don't understand any of this either". I sort of sense it could be a cult classic. I'm playing HORSE with a Portuguese guy I've never met on a game I neither of us understand. That's a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

I think the boffins over at shmups forum disagree om the "proper" moniker for Sine Mora and Velocity ;-). I have both (well, the demo for Sine Mora, tried it out on Xbox as well).

I'm not sure where I stand.. somewhere in between I guess. But I do have an intense dislike for Euro shmups.

Oh, of course. I'm sure Sine Mora is reviled by the mouth-breathing hardcore shmup fraternity, but from a generalist standpoint it's an enjoyable, well made, good looking shooter that I've had a few hours of entertainment out of. I appreciate it's no Hapoappa Neo Genesis GIGA WING IV - Mexican Standoff Edition Advanced.

There's no game called that. I checked :hmm:

Gah, I think I blew my chances with Marie in P4G since I'm already hooked up with Yukiko. I imagine I'll end up with the friendship path at best. Marie does have some of the best lines though.

Oh, I think I salvaged it. :P I can't be certain because I don't know the various "paths" available in Marie's S.Link, but I think it worked out well. I'm still making good progress in the dungeons, but I tend to try and get to the last room as quickly as possible so that I have more time to grind. Even so, this game is a lot more lenient when the main character gets KO'ed; rather than quit to the title sequence, you're allowed to start a floor from the beginning, and looking online this seems to be applicable on Easy to Hard difficulties. P4 on PS2 gave you ten chances to resurrect your party if the main character got KO'ed on Easy mode, but once those chances had been used up, you had nothing to fall back on for the rest of the game and would get sent to the title screen if you failed again. So I'm not sure whether if the changes in Golden make it more balanced or remove the challenge, but I'm still enjoying it.

I'm guessing since you're posting here you have some kind of computer machine. The Vita allows you to backup games/saves/whatever to it. (In addition to doing a full backup but you can't pick and choose items to restore if you do that).

Right. I thought you might need a special card reader. I'm sure it will all become apparent once I get it.

No, you just hook the Vita up to the PC using its USB charge cable; install the relevant application on the PC, then use the Content Manager (or something similarly named) on the Vita itself to backup your data. Dead simple! May take a while, though, as it backs up everything - games and all.

In other news: Gravity Rush is a bit good, isn't it? Took a while for the controls to fully click, but when they did... absolutely wonderful game. Building up your flight skills to the point where you can travel freely is incredibly rewarding. Reminds me a lot of Spiderman... 2, was it? Completely different controls, of course, but it's the same pleasure of mastering the art of fast, elegant travel around the city.

Will Uncharted: Golden Abyss fit onto a 4GB memory card? It says it's 3384MB but does the machine format the card to a smaller size?

Also, what happens to game saves when you delete a game from the memory card?

I was in the same position as you - Uncharted does fit onto the 4GB memory card, I believe you have around 2-300mb of space left.

I also deleted Uncharted at one stage (after backing the game up to my PC using the content manager app) and it either backed up my saved game at the same time or just didn't delete it, because it was still there afterwards. I did panic when I realized I forgot to manually back the saves up but it worked out ok. If you're signing up for PS Plus then you can also use cloud saving, either set automatically or you can manually upload your saves via the content manager.
