Do you agree? Have SONY fucked it up?

Yes and no. They can still recover, there is plenty of good in the machine.

They need to push it over the coming months and support it with titles. Reduce the fuck out of PSP games (all less than £10) and get more titles in the remote play area.

Promote the buggery out of PS+, drop the price of the memory cards and just market the shit out of it all.

On the "Vita is dead" thing - I'd see Vita as a huge opportunity if I was a dev/publishing house. The home consoles are suffering from depressed software sales and (along with the 3DS, iOS and Android) are flooded with software. The Vita is a system crying out for a defining bit of software. To play the role of Monster Hunter for the PSP. I think most people who own a Vita, and use it (not the "I bought one and I don't know what to do with it waaaah?" crowd) know it's a strong platform waiting for something to spark it off. I mean, look at Gravity Rush - it's sold over quarter of a million, possibly 300k+ including digital sales and now it's on PS+. It shows a developer with a unique vision and decent bit of software can get recognised on the platform - there are plenty of 360 and PS3 devs that would kill for those sales.

If I was Rockstar I'd be looking at the Vita and wondering if I could own the platform, not running scared from it. Same for EA, Bethesda whatever.

Where are you getting those sales figures from? I'll take a couple of hundred thousand sales of escapeVektor thanks very much :P

In many respects they've done so much right as well, which this article fails to mention. The article in general is further compounding my general distain for the gaming press at the moment, they are almost as bad as Sony in terms of miss understanding what the Vita is and generally underrating the machine, killing any positive buzz that should be created by some of the awesome titles on the Vita. In a few years time when the handheld business is only iOS and android they will weep at the lack of physical controls and most importantly the low input bandwidth.

I think the general disregard for Uncharted is strange, it's a truly great game and a welcome addition to the franchise, I guess it's biggest flaw is it takes a good few levels to really find it's groove and stop with all the touch/giro stuff.

I guess Sony's biggest mistake was it's a PS3 in your pocket, instead of it's PSP2+Touch+Dual Analogue which means that every Vita game gets compared against it's big console counterpart without taking into account you can play it anywhere/everywhere, again this is compounded by the fact that most game reviewers do their review in an office surrounded by all the consoles so the anywhere/everywhere thing is kind of lost on them. Not having a great FPS is also a bit of failure.

I really hope it doesn't die but not because I've invested in the system as so far it's been my most played console this year and has offered me personally some fantastic game experiences that fit into my lifestyle perfectly.

Personally, I do get the naysayers - I almost sold mine a few months back. It does have this perception of "no games" and I do wonder if perhaps Sony should have held back Wipeout and Uncharted and released them in the Xmas period.

I often look at the epic list of launch games and think they would have been better off spreading those over a few weeks, that way they would have had 'new' vita game every week. I also think they really failed Unit 13 as a publisher, it's a great game that disappeared without a trace. It's definitely a game for the CoD, Gears crowd.

The "no games" thing seems to be the anti Sony mantra since PSP.

The one thing I wish they would change is the PSN store interface. I often fire it up to just casually browse, but in terms of discovering interesting stuff it's just awful. You really need to know what you're looking for. It's a shame, as I think the OS is fantastic, probably my favourite mobile OS to mess around with. The lack of screenshots and videos and things is a problem as well. I just don't know how to tell the good from the bad; I don't think A-Z sorting really cuts it.

Or the "no games thing" is a true representation of what is on offer to an individual. I've bought a Vita, a PSP, a PS3, a PS2, a PS1 - I hope my views aren't discounted because I'm "anti-Sony"

Your point of "no games on offer to an individual" can apply to every platform, I could say that about the 3DS, the 360, but it's not strictly a 'true' statement which is why I rarely mention it. It's does not make me (or you) anti any platform it's just they don't offer anything for us personally.

Vita - haters only have a point wrt the memorycard pricing.

The first year may not have been a commercial success, but do we actually have to care about that?

There are enough good games now & Sony will not kill this baby, it's just a ridiculous thought.

There's plenty to play!

I'm already pretty happy - a good DLNA client & maybe some decent TV-remote functionality would be icing on the cake.

As someone already said - a developer with some vision & a good game could make a killing right now

But the bottom line is that it ain't selling. And what ever you may think of the unfair gaming press, this perception of no games and SONY not supporting the machine properly is the reality the Vita finds itself in.

And despite the good SONY have done it's just not enough. Looking at it from the outside you get the feeling they are asleep. I want to shake them- wake up SONY! Who knows what silly stuff goes on at SONY HQ?

I want the Vita to be a success so bad. We all do. But they need to act now now now.

It's had a good first year of software because Sony managed the first year of support when dev's didn't know how much of a sales disaster it would be. It'll be a lot harder going forward- especially with the Japanese sales to get adequate support for success. It'll die a slow death through lack of support unless it either begins to show a steady rate of growth or something drastic happens. I want it to succeed, I own one! But, I do think Sony are just in the wrong market at the wrong time.
