Playstation Vita

Hi Guys - first post ever and all that. Basically I am close to taking the plunge on a PS Vita........but.....is it worth it?

My question would be if you could reverse your choice would you? Feedback please! :D

Personally I couldn't live with out it, Finished MGS2 yesterday on the tube ride home! There are plenty of Vita titles worth getting since launch and a whole raft of new titles coming up throughout the silly season. If you commute to work via some form of public transport it's essential imo. If you find that the TV at home is hogged by your partner watching stuff that doesn't engage you then it's essential.

I love it. The Vita has become my favorite console since it came out and I pretty much do all my gaming on it.

Despite not having that many games there are still about 10 (Wipeout, Everybody's Golf, Gravity Rush, Uncharted, MGS etc..) that are worth playing. Some, like Dynasty Warriors (the best of the franchise) or Disgaea or Mortal Kombat, will literally take hundreds of hours to complete.

It does a wonderful job in all aspects: graphics are great, wi-fi works perfectly, they keep adding new features with each firmware update, lots of games are coming and the machine is a brilliant piece of high-tech that makes me feel that I really have a console in my hands.

Can't get that exploit to work. It just loads the game as normal.

I'm using the MadBlocker game and end up with a folder like:

........PS Vita\PSAVEDATA\8b67e64b1105b31c\NPEZ00327CPMEM

with 8 files in. Is that right?

The bit starting 8b appears to be my Vita number?

Yep. Weird thing is, if I back up from my vita then nothing gets put into that folder. I don't think my system is working right at all. I backed up the game "echoes" too and that put nothing in the PSAVEDATA folder

Well, a bit of a surprise. I was browsing the large Vita section in the local supermarket and found a copy of MUD for the Vita. I'd seen it flash up on the store a couple of weeks back, but then it disappeared I wasn't even sure what its official release date was, but obviously for mainland Europe it's now? Maybe next week on PSN?

It's pretty good too. OK, it's not Motorstorm Apocalypse in terms of graphical fidelity, but it's certainly a step up from a PSP racing game. It's smooth, the tracks are gigantic, the scenery is well done and animated. The trees are a bit scraggy (PGR3 trees) and it doesn't look like it's running at native rez, but the overall impression is at least the equal of a top end tablet racing game, possibly a little better. The bike physics are good too - it feels nice and solid on the stick. There's not a lot of drift, but the bike changes handling believably depending on what speed you're going, and you can shift your weight.. It's also pretty difficult, I was struggling to get more than 200 yards before face-planting myself in the advertising hoardings. Seem to be plenty of modes, one which has "RPG elements" according to the box (levelling up riding skills and the bike I imagine), a stunt mode and a 6 player online mode (not tried that yet). Considering the competition until NFS arrives it's, by default, probably the Vita's best racing game isn't it? Even after NFS it's still going to be the only one with motorbikes in.

It was also cheap - about 25 quid, so it might be the first in a new range of slightly cheaper Vita titles (although it might just be the supermarket assuming nobody was going to buy it at 50 euros). So yeah. I'll report back a bit more, but early impressions are more positive than something of Asphalt or Ben 10 racing calibre.

EDIT: So, an hour or so of gameplay later I can report it's really not too bad. The stunt mode is a bit dull and onlne only had two other people on it, both possibly the devs as they were the highest level you could be. But the core game seems really solid and it's your typical race to earn coins, to buy new bikes, tricks, events etc. Not particularly creative, but I can see myself working through it. I'd forgotten about WRC3 though, from the gameplay vids it seems like a different class.

If it is anything like the original it will be amazing bizarre "ace attourney style murder mystery multi ending/true ending super-puzzle mind-fuck-em up" that is was

Ah yes - Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward some of the guys on gaf are really keen on this o...

EDF is huge - 12hrs in and just finished off easy mode and unlocked the Pale Wing. Turns out the Pale Wing uses the same levels but resets the health and provides a whole range of new weapons to unlock. This will be keeping me company for quite some time.

My technique of playing is to take the character into the highest difficulty mode I can scrape though....the pickups you get are all the better for it. If you can take the palewing into a level on difficulty tier 4, you'll get some kick ass weapons. I managed to get some inferno weapons on my Global Defence Force palewing, which by right i was no where near deserving of. I could take down an inferno Saurus within 10 seconds.

it should work. i have asian/japanese imports which work fine using my uk account.

if you buy it new, rather than second hand why would you need a pass?

unless you mean to buy it from the usa psn store, in which case it would only work with the account you bought it with. (dlc also needs to match the region of game/account that purchased it)

i see no reason why a brand new physical version of madden wouldnt work fine on your uk account

Except for not getting the latest patch which sounds like it fixes a lot of the framerate issues.

EDIT: I'm nit 100% sure about this, has anyone been able to patch an import game from a UK account?

Completely agree with the above - even if you just use it for PSP games, there are enough of those to make it wonderful. But there are some brilliant Vita games, too.

I love mine.

This. :D It's taking it's time but it's becoming a great little machine. And there will be more to look forward to with JSR's digital release next week... I always had difficulty loving the DC game because of the tight time limits, but I still enjoyed it a lot. Even so, a handheld version will be much more easy for me to pick up and put down as opposed to jabbing the retry button all of the time. Oh, and I just really like the idea of seeing Tokyo-to on dat screen. :)

Super Monkey Ball Vita is out in a couple of weeks and it seems to be dirt cheap. Shopto are selling it for for £13.85. http://www.shopto.ne...ey-ball-ps-vita

Given the lack of reviews and cheap price point, though, it's probably not brilliant. Shame - the Vita seems ideal as a Super Monkey Ball machine.

It's very good. It's not GameCube good, but it's certainly better than the last four or so games that I've played. I'd certainly be happy picking it up for that sort of price.

Sold. I've got about a tenners worth of points at shopto, so it's not really costing me anything.
