Playstation Vita

This entire thread is a massive case of TL;DR, but ANYWAY: I hadn't touched my Vita in ages, but then, out of boredom, I grabbed it and put some games on it (thanks for finally working properly, PSN) and now I'm addicted to Sound Shapes. Which is all I ever wanted Loco Roco to be. I've completed the campaign in one swift go and am now murdering myself with Death Mode. Fuck Death Mode. Fuck it up it's motherfucking ass*.

What a game! <3

*I love it, really.

Sound Shapes is brilliant, although I've told other online folk about it and they found it a bit boring (NO SOUL), so it's a bit divisive. I can understand that it's basically a platformer with collectibles and infinite lives and that might be a bit dull, but the imagination of the levels makes up for the simple gameplay. :)

Man that sucks, I hate to ask but you didn't put the plug in upside down? I've nearly made that mistake a couple of times and I know that Sony have attributed similar 'burn out' issues in Japan to this. I hope it works out well for you I was hoping for more New Little King Story impressions as well.

Pop over to NEOGaf for some true fan impressions of Little King's Story. Basically my rather moderate view of it is wrong. It's an insult to gaming and humanity and you should be ashamed you're even interested in it. I was so shocked at the vitriol I tried playing some of the Wii version. I can see where the hate is coming from, but I can't say the art style has made me as distressed as some of the GAFers. Basically there are issues over the art design, which is far more traditionally manga-doe-eyed by the numbers stuff rather than the more cartoony original, the frame rate is bad and while it's a sequel it's also sort of a remake (which explains my confusion that it seemed vaguely familiar, but not incredibly so). So yeah. I don't know any more.

In terms of the plug - no. I always was careful to push it in the right way (matron!). On mine I don't even think it'll go in the other way - wasn't there a design change mid production cycle to change the plug slightly to stop this happening? I suspect a bit of dust, or cat hair or something got stuck on it and shorted it out when it was plugged in, or perhaps some condensation (it was sitting in the kitchen). I imagine Sony will wriggle out of doing it as a warranty repair and blame me in some way. But I've bought another unit on the trading forum, so in any event, I'll just shift it on to a random French person and hope their house doesn't burn down.

Fuck. Problem with my Vita.

Downloaded LBP and tried To patch another game. It froze a couple of times. Then all of a sudden a 'serious system error' occurred saying it had to restart.

Now it boots but none of my DLC is listed. If you look at system it says it can't detect a memory card as if its not in the slot. I have resat it and rebooted but get the same thing.

Anybody seen this?

I doubt it, Sony sent me a free replacement unit without any questions asked when the screen of my Vira was cracked, and this was most likely (and quite obviously) my own fault.

I have never seen it, but are you sure it isn't a problem with the memory card rather than the Vita itself from the way you describe it?

Could be. I have no spare card to test with though. Does anybody have a spare all card they could send me? I will post back when done.

I had seen the problem quoted elsewhere and somebody had their vita replaced which fixed it.

You could try using the recovery menu.

Ensuring the Vita is off, press the PlayStation, power and right shoulder buttons, holding them for a few seconds. A very lo-fi menu will appear which you need to navigate using the physical controls. I'm fairly sure the Rebuild Database option won't delete anything but may sort your issue.

Thanks. Done that though. Did a database rebuild, which it had also tried to do automatically earlier when it could still see the memory card. Also tried a complete system restore which worked fine but still no memory card visible. It does sound like the card to be fair but in my experience very little can go wrong with solid state memory and it wast like it was even removed. One minute it was working fine, the next minute it cant see it.

Got a Vita, the one I won online.

Was excited to buy some PSOne games but what the fuck is it with Sony and their prices??

Seriously. $15 for games that are over 10 years old. Are they mental.

Had to buy a memory stick. Over priced as always. Have a 32GB USB stick that cost me the same as the Sony 4GB memory. Mental

That home. Cranked up the PS Store and went to buy Fifa 13 and it was $80!!!! Fucking $80!!!!! Borderlands 2 on my Xbox 360 only cost me $70 and the Vita is a handheld.

Maybe owning an iPhone has changed my perception of handheld gaming costs but I can buy Fifa 13 on my iPad for $7.49 but it costs 10 times more to buy it in the Vita store. That's fucked. No wonder no one is buying any games.

They seriously need to rethink their pricing strategy. It's a handheld not a full console.

I really don't get that. It's a handheld, sure, but it plays full-on console experiences with all the breadth, depth and content that you'd get on a PS3 or 360. I don't see that the games should necessarily be massively cheaper.

If you want games at App Store prices, you'll get disposable crap riddled with IAPs like 95% of iPhone titles. I'm happy with what the Vita offers and the games I've bought are worth what I've paid for them.

3rd parties like EA set their own prices on the PSN store and those will be governed by complex retail relationships which they don't have to worry about on ios.

Also be aware that FIFA 13 is FIFA Football 1.5 not an awful lot has change from Febuarys release which is hardly surprising given the amount of time between releases.

I own two games on my iPad that are IAPs. The rest are full games which I have bought and play and which offer damn good gaming and value. I've paid $20 for a game but $80 for a handheld is ripping the piss.

I'm stunned that anyone would defend the pricing. Seriously?

If you're need for portable gaming is satisfied by iOS games you may as well sell the Vita and spend the money on iTunes vouchers. I'm not sure what the pricing is like in Australia (from a few of tssk's posts are all games crazy expensive over there?) but the US account I use on my Vita all of Vita releases are the same price as their physical copy equivalent which I don't mind paying because it saves me money on postage. The UK store in comparison is a lot more competitive and has quite a few of the recent Vita releases on sale recently.

As for the PSOne games, apart from the Final Fantasy and MGS games they are all $5.99 each which I think it great value for some real classics like Klonoa and Suikoden and the most recent game of that age on the iTunes store is Lunar Silver Star Story Touch for £4.99 which around the same price of a PSOne download.

Not going to defend FIFA at all as to me it is overpriced annual updates regardless of platform. And EA are notorious for their unfriendly pricing on PSN and XBOX

I have iOS devices and vita and there are good cheap bite size games on vita

Sound shapes

Mutant blob attack

Pinball (fx arcade or zen I think)

Motorstorm RC

Hustle kings

Etc

All under a tenner

Plus a myriad of PS minis... Speedball 2 for the win! Those work on vita and are similar to iOS type games in lots of cases.

Or wait for PlaystationSuite where it will be a similar marketplace to iOS

But if you want the fullsize games on handheld experience? Well even the "full price" vita games have had big price drops... Everybody's golf is about £15 unit13 was similar at one point and others similarly priced in sales etc.

I am waiting on LBP vita to see if it drops below 29.99

And if you REALLY want to play FIFA then iOS is probably best bet if you want it at a bargain basement price.

I am the first to decry the major platform holders not "getting" the new handheld market post-iOS but I think Sony are trying very hard.

I think I may switch regions and check out global prices because those in the Aus store are just ridiculous.

I do actually think they are over priced no matter what.

Even their PSOne games are stupidly priced. $8 for Crash Bandicoot etc.

They should be selling the older games for $5 each instead you have MGS1 for $18 and FF7 for $16.

I wouldn't pay more than £1-£2 for an iOS game, because for me, the style of play that touch-screen-only control lends itself to means that's all they are worth. Disposable, pick-up-play-forget.

I would however pay £10 for Mutant Blobs, and £25 for Wipeout 2048 / Gravity Rush / Uncharted / LBP Vita, because for me they are the equivalent in playing value and production quality to full console games, and that's what they feel worth.

Can't speak for PSOne games because they hold no interest for me in the slightest. Ultimately the full vita DL games should be a bit cheaper than buying the game retail, if they are overpriced then don't buy the digital version until they drop.

Managed to nab a couple of copies of Wipeout from Sainsbury's this weekend (one for me, one for a mate), so thanks for the heads-up to whoever that was. They had loads on the shelves, all marked at £29.99. The guy at the till thought I was a mental when I asked him to scan it for me. "It's got the price on the front", he kept saying. "Oh", he finally said, once it scanned at £9.99.

Bargain.

I had never heard of Mutant Blobs before, but the trailer looks like a lot of fun (maybe a bit too iOSy for my taste, but hey). I'll definitely buy it once I'm done with Sound Shapes :) I intend on getting my first Platinum trophy with that game!

Mutant Blobs is great, probably a bit meatier than your typical iOS game, although I've not picked up my iPhone for gaming since getting the Vita so things may have moved on.

Good luck, the challenges you need to complete are pretty random.

Anyone else tried the Silent Hill:Book of Memories demo? It's really not what I was expecting. It's a roguelike loot-em-up for starters. Actually seems not totally awful, though I was discouraged by the fact the demo was so incredibly easy, I'd want substantially more challenge.

I'm starting to regret buying this now. I have not seen a launch this sparse for a while now. I'm still holding out for Persona 4 but after that there is little to hold my interest. Is it just the fact that Sony have not had much 3rd party support and this has caused a negative feedback loop? Or is it just the fact that they don't seem to give a damn?

I have and I was put off by the style of it. Not following any previews of the game, it wasn't at all what I was expecting. Admittedly haven't played a Silent Hill game since SH2 though so that might be what's it's like now for all I know. For that reason I wasn't interested in even completing the demo. Perhaps if it was called something other than Silent Hill I might have been more interested (if that makes sense). That said, I watched a workmate play it at lunchtime (who was equally unimpressed with it) and he seemed to come across a different puzzle from what I had encountered, so I might play it again to see if that was actually the case or if I'm going mad (which is entirely plausable).
