Playstation Vita

Any good PS1 shooters / arcade games I should get? I downloaded Shienryu which seems quite good, any more? Or other PS1 tips at that. As it is, I've got MGS, FF VII (although I'll probably never play it because random battles annoy the shit out of me), Crash Bandicoot 1 and 2 as well.

CTR (Crash Team Racing) is pretty good, better than Mario Kart?

I've got Kurushi Final and Ridge Racer Type 4 too, both good.

What's the best way to go about getting films from DVD and Blu-ray on to my Vita? I used to rip DVDs with DVDDecrypter and then run them through Handbrake before copying to my iPod.

There must be a more elegant solution these days though, surely. I just want to stick the DVD/BD in the PC, hook up the Vita, choose the chapters/titles/whatever and click "Go".

I'm still doing the decrypt/handbrake system. Seems archaic yeah.

Eurogamer have a Soul Sacrifice preview up.

With its foreboding art style and grim systems, Soul Sacrifice represents a bold new change of direction for the man behind the Blue Bomber, but it's a welcome one. Its focus on player choice and interpersonal drama represents a thought-provoking spin on Monster Hunter, while the melancholy story flies in the face of the "rah-rah" mentality one usually expects from a co-op action game. I can already tell that I'll be sacrificing plenty of time to it when it hits western shores sometime next year.

Sounds interesting.

You say that as if Japanese games were still cheap. I've not contemplated buying a game direct from Japan in years, the exchange rate makes it very difficult to justify.

Ha yeah, I know what you mean gone are the days where it was cheaper to import a game than buy it in a UK store. However I can't see any info on DJ Max coming to Europe let alone the Special Edition which I quite fancy (for no apparent reason). It's about £85 but if I get stung with import duty it will be over a 100 which is a bit much...

Anyway - this looks well tasty ...

There's a Heihachi version in Black and Red as well.

My Vita is dead. Power plug and socket burnt out when it was on charge. No flames, but I smelt a burning smell when I plugged it in, held it up to my ear and heard a sizzling noise and quickly yanked the plug out but it was too late and the device wouldn't charge again. The socket in the Vita was blackened too. Took it back to the shop I got it in (50km away, FFS), got told to take it to another shop, got grilled for 20 minutes by a grumpy French woman before it went off to Sony for "assessment". I will know in 4 weeks whether Sony will fix it for free or not, and when it is fixed I have to drive 50km to go and pick it up again. Brilliant.

I'm going to pick up anther in the meantime (possibly from the trading forum here) and if the other comes back repaired I'll probably sell it on, as I'm a bit spooked to be honest. Don't think I'll leave it charging overnight or next to a curtain in the future either.

Man that sucks, I hate to ask but you didn't put the plug in upside down? I've nearly made that mistake a couple of times and I know that Sony have attributed similar 'burn out' issues in Japan to this. I hope it works out well for you I was hoping for more New Little King Story impressions as well.

Gee, this really isn't selling is it?

I saw a promotion the other day, where if you bought a Vaio laptop, you got a Vita with it for only €99 (£79).

That's not necessarily a sign of bad sales, it could even mean the opposite - bundling a (discount on a) desirable product to push the sale, like offering an iPad with a new car or an iPod with a new couch or something. However, we would be kidding ourselves as all signs indeed point to the Vita being a hard sale at the moment.

I do hope Sony will keep pushing the system and not give up on it anytime soon though. It's such a lovely piece of kit, it would be a shame if it sank to the failed console graveyard before its time.
