It's not really about which is better though is it? it's about what fits for the particular game. Mario physics are great for Mario because the game is built for them. LBP's physics are built for LBP.

Now you can certainly say you dislike the physics in LBP but making claims about which type of physics is better when the games are completely different is a bit of a pointless argument. If LBP was a Mario clone the argument over physics would be less of a waste of time.

If you don't like the physics in LBP, well thats fine, but making such a fuss over it seems a bit pointless.

Every LBP game would be a million times better with Mario physics. How would it be worse?

Precise Mario physics fit platformers that have platforms and ledges with precise edges and ends etc.

LPB has rounded wooly edges due to art design.

So no I do not believe Mario physics would work in LBP, they would in fact be shite... For instance if you shoehorned Mario physics into LBP where would it decide the exact fall off point of a platform would be? Given the fact lots of lbp surfaces have rounded edges etc.

I can't quite understand how you could argue that an entire genre of game can only "be the best" with one type of physics.

Do all racing games have to have physics that match (random choice) forza?

I love Quake 3 and it has very Distinctive feel to its physics and feel. Unreal tournament does not have the same and neither does Halo etc... Should they all have one type of physics?

In answer to your earlier question the physics in LBP are not better than Mario and Marios aren't better than LBP they just use different physics models to match the game's aim and art style. I can however tell you this

Id hate Mario if it had LBP physics

Id hate LBP if it had Mario physics

Fortunately both games have the right physics for them :)

What's the best price these days? Still tempted to get a Vita - I want Gravity Rush badly - and storage is key.

Dunno, just ordered it from Amazon as it's the only reliable UK webshop when it comes to fast international shipping (others might be a tad cheaper but then it can take easily 3 weeks before stuff arrives, while with Amazon I'll have it in 2-3 days or so), and they were a lot cheaper than the Dutch stores.

I'm using Mario because it is probably the highest example of 2D platformer physics. I could just as easily replace it with any other 2D platformer and the point would still stand. It's not about there being one best type of physics for 2D platformers, it's about it being terrible in LBP and just about anything else being preferable.

I'm not sure what you mean about the looseness being a necessity because of the rounded edges either. I'm sure there are plenty of examples of platforms with rounded edges in Mario games where they haven't required horrible jump physics to compensate.

All you are doing is reasserting your opinion that LBP physics are crap and irritating TO YOU.. Which is not in dispute.

If you don't understand why you need a different physics model For different art styles and different types of platformers then I am not sure what to say :)

As I pointed out in my original post it is a matter of preference. If you don't like the physics in LBP move along to games where you like them.

It would be like me posting in every Halo thread that the physics were too floaty and shit and it should use Quake 3 physics cos they are better.

Every object in LPB feels far too light, as if they're hollow or filled with helium. It lacks mass. It makes the game feel off.

Yes "too light" and "feels off" to you...

My original point was simply indicating that LBP seems to polarise people and those who dislike its physics/controls/weight etc etc seem to want to reiterate that fact everytime an iteration is released or positive review is posted.

Obviously as you all dislike LBP you say that reviewers are wrong or only play 10 games a year etc etc etc... rather than accepting the truth that the game is enjoyed and loved by many

For instance I dislike smash bros therefore I dont go in any of the threads... And I certainly dont berate overwhelmingly positive reviews by saying it's shit anbd the reviewer is a moron.

I can only imagine that the reason for this is that all the people being critical are clamouring for a 2D construction kit game with a "mario" feel or precise tight 2D platformer feel...

That is fine, just dont expect it to be LBP :)

Just accept it isnt the game for you and move on ;)

Needing more storage, but being too cheap to go for a 32GB memory card, I simply went out and bought a 2nd 16GB card instead at the weekend, figuring I'd simply have some stuff on card A, other stuff on card B and just swap them about as and when I wanted to.

Except... I didn't realise what a ballache it would be! Whenever I plug my original (and more full) memory card back in, the system has to spend a few minutes rebuilding the database. Also, it seems to magically forget where I placed my icons each time and just dumps them wherever it likes.

It's a bit of a shit implementation, it must be said.

ToMB just robbed me :( I didn't get my bonus for competing (or winning) the weekly challenge ... Gutted especially since I set such a hi score :(

However I did just get 3 cups in the daily mini game awarding me 40k (and 8K to anyone on near who's close).

I made a wonderful discover on my Vita this weekend. I stuck it in Flight Mode, and now I don't get the annoying "Connecting to network" or "Choose wi-fi connection" messages when I'm on the train.

I've also been mopping up a few more medals on Motorstorm, and giggling at the funny music.

You'll probably find the battery life is much better as well. Although I think you can set it up not to try and connect to any old wifi network without going into flight mode.

Anyone else playing Zen Pinball 2 on Vita? Had it for a few days, and enjoyed what I've played between bouts of MK and MGS3. I'm tempted to splash out on some more Marvel tables, as well as the Street Fighter one, but still, don't think I've seen it mentioned here at all yet...

This may be because:

  1. ZP2 has actually been playable on Vita for ages, and I haven't noticed.
  2. Everyone else rinsed ZP2 on the PS3, and therefore doesn't care.
  3. Everyone else bought Pinball Arcade instead, and therefore doesn't care.
  4. ZP2 is shit, and I'm just too unfamiliar with pinball games to notice.

In any case, I don't have all the tables (bit pricy like), but if anyone feels like spurring me on to achieve some less embarrassing scores, add me up. PSN ID: DoctorEgo.

I'm a Pinball Arcade man myself, I tried Zen and just didn't like it as much as PA.

In other news 1.81 is out which fixes 3G issues, so both me and the other one rllmuker with 3G can now connect to 3G's without having to reboot everyday (well that's the hope anyway).

Hopefully it will reduce the lockups as well as mine has been worse since 1.80, with the 3G issues as well I was looking at 2-3 restarts on a bad day!

I'm playing it - add me if you like (CaptainCluke), or I'll add you later if I remember. I'm surprised so few people on my friendslist are playing it when so many were playing Pinball Arcade.

Zen Pinball is great, so it can't be that. Guess they are pinballed out...

Street Fighter 2 isn't a bad table, but there are better. Epic Quest is a lot of fun, and I hear good things about Plants Vs Zombies.

Shitting hell, I've suddenly become all excited about LBP. And it's out this week. AMAZING SCENES.

Is everybody getting it?

God, I'm so excited.

Any news on how much it will be to download?

Have any of you lot played it yet? There was a beta or something, wasn't there? Is it everything I'm hoping for, all wrapped up in a little burlap bundle?

I can feel the excitement building if only for something new (despite having plenty of game hours sitting waiting to be played already). Price I'm not sure I guess full RRP on PSN maybe cheaper for plus people. It's may be the sort of game that's more suited to being on the memcard but I find that all games are getting a bit like that now. I think it's about 1.6GB (EU) and 1.2GB (US).

If the early reports from the Gaffers are anything to go by it's the best in the series (SCEA decided to launch early) ... I dream of a world where it's the Vita PSplus launch game of the month (starting Friday!!!) ... Ah dreams ...

If you are on plus it may be worth going the cart route because it will inevitably be free at some point.

I'm in work and can't search most gaming sites - what is Vita PSplus? Game of the month?

Vita PlayStation Plus is 'coming soon' I expect that most of the games they will offer will be first party titles and I *dreamed* it would be LBP vita - none of this is true at the mo... That said if you are going to get or already have PSPlus then getting LBP (or any first party game) on Game Card as opposed to digital would be wise as you can trade it in when PSPlus offer it for free.
