More LBP reviews:

PSU

This compelling, imaginative adventure is the best LittleBigPlanet yet and breaks new ground in a hybrid space of touch-and-button-based gaming that is only possible on PlayStation Vita.

9.5/10

IGN

LittleBigPlanet PS Vita is the definitive LittleBigPlanet game. It's everything you loved (or possibly didn't) from the past games boiled down into a package you can play anywhere at any time.

9/10

Polygon/The Verge

LittleBigPlanet Vita is the best thing on the Vita to date, a perfect fit formed between the hardware and the franchise. But it doesn't just succeed on a conceptual level; it's polished, addictive, and precious. In every imaginable way, LittleBigPlanet Vita is a knockout.

9/10

Destructoid

LittleBigPlanet is finally at home on the PlayStation Vita. This is where it belongs.

8.5/10

TheSixthAxis

Without the community aspect and the clever side games, this wouldn’t score nearly as highly. But as a whole, and with the potential for some absolutely brilliant things in the future? It’s a great package – expect big things.

8/10

Joypad.dk

Little Big Planet Vita is a fantastic acquaintance, a game that really uses your Vita in every possible way. Camera, touch screen, gyroscope, everything is being used in this game. It is a game that really shows what a Vita can when the developer uses the machine's many functions. I highly recommend anyone who owns a Playstation Vita to buy this game.

94/100

Videogamer

LittleBigPlanet Vita is a lovely game. It's the kind of game that you'd be happy to show your mum, safe in the knowledge that everything - even the death - is safe for delicate eyes. That's fine. I'm happy that there are still some games that aren't full-on in their depiction of violence. LBP Vita's problem, though, is that behind all this loveliness there needed to be a bit more grit.

8/10

OPM UK

Could this be the killer app that Vita’s been crying out for? It’s a slice of gleefully inventive oddness that’s certainly sated our appetite for sackboy on handheld – and it’s very nearly perfect.

9/10

CVG

Simply the best version of LBP on any format.

9.2/10

Edge:

Semi-regular iterations were never going to make a game as singular as LittleBigPlanet feel like part of the cyclical release grind, then, but there’s still something rather surprising about how thoughtful and vivid this latest instalment is. If you’ve been writing the series’ Vita appearance off as a compromise or a contractual obligation, you’re in for something of a treat. That 5 inch OLED screen is a chance to see Media Molecule’s staggering achievement afresh, and to witness one of this generation’s most intriguing engines of creativity at its most energetic and effective.

It's not my type of game either, but I know lots of people who love it (some for the construction part, some for the game itself and some for both) and they are not game critics. Different tastes and all that. At least it's different. And colourful and charming.

I went back to Ultimate Marvel 3 earlier today because I realised I had never tried it with the touch controls. It's completely hilarious and yet feels so wrong; combos are stringed together much more easily and Galactus was a bit quicker to go down. I can't imagine what this would be like in a multiplayer scenario. It felt like Bayonetta's Easy Auto mode, but for a fighting game. :D

Still not sure about LBP, but then I don't own a PS3 and I've only ever played the PSP game.

When I went on the PSN Store to pick up Ecolibrium, I noticed FIM Motocross on there, for £32. A bit steep, but me and arcade racers are irresistibly drawn to one another. I went for a quick piss as I deliberated, decided to pick it up (the game lol), and its now vanished from the store again. Either a fuck up, or it's coming soon? I can't find anything about it, other than a few optimistic Photoshop renders pasted on Vitas, but the 360/PS3 version was reasonable, so even a half arsed conversion might be good.

That's a shame, I was hoping someone would get it as info is very thin on the ground.

EDF in 2 weeks! Now thats a fun game. The older I get, the more bored I am of slick, worthy games. Fuck em, Id rather play something stupidly silly that makes me grin. LBP is not that game.

You talking about the R2J import angel or is there something I've missed in terms of a western release ? Fuck it, it's mine regardless.

Picked up that Sun Flower game on a punt. Not really worth it if I'm honest. Played for 20 mins on easy and it was just dull. It's well produced and I've paid for it so I'll give it more time but I can't say I'm compelled to play it again other than for trophy whoring. Its not got a good quick fix iOS style gaming as goes seem to go on forever with little risk reward loop and if your going to play something for 20-30 mins plus sessions there are loads of better games on Vita. If you are after cheap quick fix gaming Montezuma is a better option.

Why? Just for the weekly tournament or is something going on that I missed?

Nah just an attempt to get some more people into this weeks tourney - you may not want to now though as after posting that I had an epic go, got 15 million with no bonuses or totems active!

LBP2 fixed many of the problems that LBP1 had, largely by adding springs so that you didn't need to jump so much, and adding support for loads of other types of game mechanic, meaning you weren't limited to platforming. All of the levels I made were shooters for example. I figure a further iteration on LBP2 with added touchscreen mechanics will make for a really good game. It's the first thing I've really wanted to get a Vita for :)

The only down-side to a portable LBP is the lack of (same-screen) multiplayer, which was quite a big hit with the missus.

For me, this is what was so brilliant about LBP. My non gaming friends still saw Wii as super lame and would not be enticed into some casual, silly, mega fun. But LBP was so intrinsically simple that it was the sofa, tea and friendly fun game of choice. The game that got non gamy chums game happy. Once they were into it, I would show them some of the most amazing user created levels and it would BLOW THEIR MINDS!

I love LBP and its sequels and , yes, I love the platforming action/physics.. It IS wooly and it isnt precise like Mario but then again its not meant to be...

To the vociferous critics of the series can I make a suggestion... Read a review of any new iteration (the edge one is a perfect example) and if a phrase like this or similar appears

Critics of the woozy physics won’t be entirely won over by this update

Then you know it isnt for you.. dont bother and move on to play a platformer you do like.

Berating a series of games every time a new one is released does seem a little odd. I am not in every new Smash bros thread complaining I cant see what is going on and the whole thing a visual vomit on my screen...

I don't really understand why they didn't just make the platforming physics better. It's not like there's something so fundamentally different about Mario-style physics that they wouldn't have worked in the LBP context.

They just keep making games with some really excellent creative tools and tonnes of potentially but then hobble them with completely shit controls, it's really irritating.

I'm pretty sure sure the Vita version has tweaked Sackboy's jumping to be more predictable, beyond what LBP2 did to the controls. I don't think people should really get hung up on the platforming aspect in the first place, though, as the series has been moving away from it for some time; this is especially true of the Vita version, as you can now implement basic save states for any games you make.

irritating... to you yes...

to others who like the games, "woolly physics" and all? no, not irritating.

If you want to play Mario physics then go play Mario...

If you want a construction kit with imagination of LBP and physics of Mario? Wait for Nintendo to make MArio Contruction Set.

I love Mario Kart.. I love the construction elements of Mod Nation Racers but I find I prefer the physics and control of Mario Kart... I live with it :)

Do you think the physics in LBP are better than Mario or do you just tolerate them because you like the games?

It's not really about which is better though is it? it's about what fits for the particular game. Mario physics are great for Mario because the game is built for them. LBP's physics are built for LBP.

Now you can certainly say you dislike the physics in LBP but making claims about which type of physics is better when the games are completely different is a bit of a pointless argument. If LBP was a Mario clone the argument over physics would be less of a waste of time.

If you don't like the physics in LBP, well thats fine, but making such a fuss over it seems a bit pointless.

I realise most people probably don't bother with near, but has anyone else found it to be extremely buggy in v1.8?

I've had the same issue a couple of times. Launching near loads the app, but the refresh button doesn't work neither do the other buttons. Closing the app and reopening it results in none of the buttons displaying. Doing so again causes the app to not load at all, and powering off locks up the system until you do the extended force power off.

It never did any of this before v1.8
