So best to set up an EU or US account?

I'd say US personally. Seem to get games a tad quicker, some not even given EU launch dates yet (e.g. Persona 4: Golden, Ragnarok Oddyssey), some PSP games have not been released in EU (e.g. Jeanne D'Arc) games are a bit cheaper and PSOne Classics run in 60hz, full screen, yada yada.

Cons are you can't use DLC with EU bought retail games. And you just have to buy credit online (as you have to set up a fake US address so can't use a credit/debit card).

I went with UK, and I'll tell you why.

It's easier to get store credit, and I can trade my old shit in at GameStation to get some. I can also buy any UK retail release at RRP or on the cheap and I'll know that I can play it online and use any DLC with it. The EU store also has some really good sales.

The US store does have 60Hz PS1 titles and more choice when it comes to PS1 games, but it's not a deal breaker for me. For the odd US-only Vita release, I'm just going to buy the retail version.

Well I bid on one of these on a new auction site and won two...both cost me about 128 quid each for the wifi-3G versions.

Some deal EB did with the bid company. So I think I'll probably flog one and keep the other.

Have to pick them up at local EB store.

Pre-Vita, is was a no-brainer to use a PSP with a US account. The US store had a ton more PSP and PSone games, cheaper pricing and better sales,

Since the Vita, SCEA have just given up trying. SCEE regularly trumps their US cousins with better content, better sales, better pricing. The US store still has more PSone and PSP games. Not forgetting, PSone games in the EU/AU are the original 50Hz bordered abominations.

However, as you're based in Aus, I'd still recommend using a US account. The typical Aussie mark-up sees the same games in the AU store costing more, often up to 50% more expensive than the US version. When the AUD and USD had parity a while back, the mark-up was close to 100%, Best Buy in the US sell $50 PSN vouchers that they e-mail directly to you. Even when I used to buy US PSN vouchers from eBay, the mark-up I'd pay on them was always reclaimed back by the cheaper price of games.

If you want to take advantage of buying games in store and Playstation plus I would stick with your region.

SCEE have changed the AUS rating requirements do only box products need an AUS rating. This means you'll get the same DLs as EU.

If you have a PS3 and have bought ps1 or psp games on it. Or you have a PS+ account then use that account.

Personally - PS1 games can be played on so many devices by now, for me the ability to play them or to play the NTSC version of those PS1 games has no impact whatsoever on choosing a Vita account region. Vita games, PSP games, convenience and sales are far more important factors to me, being able to play some PS1 games is just a nice bonus. I don't consider the version of Kula World I have on my Vita an unplayable abomination, it kills time whenever I fire it up and it's fun to play. But to each his own.

US Store has Gradius collection. Not owning a PSP this was my sole reason for setting it up as US account. Saying that it doesn't take long to switch between accounts really so it is not a full on committed choice as long as you are awre of the restrictions when buying software for each regional account. Bit of a faff having to format your memory card but just back it all up to the PC and job done. Annoying but not impossible.

Also depends if you care about trophies/gamerscore whatever it is on Playsation

It still fucks me off, that for however many years now that they've been running an online Store, that Sony still can't sort out US/EU/Rest of World shit. I can't play Killzone Liberation on my Vita, although I could if were in the US. I can't download Jeanne D'Arc. Or Gracious. Or good versions of PSOne games. Etc.

Fucking useless.

Not at the moment, no. You get a smattering of discounts, but nothing that would offset the amount you'd be paying for it. Later in the year it's "coming to Vita" but nobody know what that means - if it's a similar concept to the one on PS3 and means they give away digital versions of full games monthly, then it could be a no-brainer, but most people don't think that's likely, at least not initially. It could be a wider mix of films and music, PSP titles and PS1 titles and the occasional Vita title, in which case your mileage might vary. In summary, don't bother now, but keep an eye on it.

Is it worth having a PS+ thingy if you only have a Vita and not a PS3 ? I got an E-Mail saying about 25% off PS+ subscription, just wondered if you all think it's worth it ?

Currently no as although they recently promised some Vita content there hasn't been any yet.

All you'd get would be small discounts on some downloadable titles - although if you buy enough from PSN you might save the £30 back in year.

So, is there anything upcoming for the Vita - September wise, I mean? I'm really out of touch :(

I fancy a new game. Been playing a bit of Pinball and the bejewled clone (which is actually fantastic, great updates) but do want a real vita game, if you know what I mean.

Sigh. I don't have a PS3 (or PS2) but I do have pristine copies of SOTC and ICO tucked away somewhere. Couldn't bring myself to sell them but now I have no way of playing them. What chance a proper Vita release? :(

Just treat yourself to a lovely new PS3 and a copy of Ico/SOTC HD!

Absolutely none - but do go ahead and grab a PS3 instead; it's actually a good console these days.

Nope, niche genre on a niche console tends to work badly. Cave supposedly had something in development but it was never formally announced with a title or screens so was either a mistranslation or just a prototype.

Konami don't care much about the genre since their psp collections (Otomedius does.not.count), and the other smaller developers don't have the resources or interest.

Of course we may still get some indie games but not much to see yet.
