Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

The game will always try and fit the soul you captured into a gem, if you don't have a gem of the right size then it will look to use the next size up. So if you are unlucky you could indeed end up with a petty soul in a grand soul gem if that was all that was free at the time of capture.

Also remember you can only capture the souls of humans into black soul gems.

Thanks. Looks like I'll need to be a bit careful about what I off with my newly minted Ebony Sword with Soul Trap. The evil looking bugger that it is.

Holy shit, I am on a totally bonkers quest! If I say "inside head" that should be cryptic enough to not give anything away to those who havent done it! I love that 70 hours in the game is still surprising me and chucking new stuff my way.

What are peoples thoughts on fast travel now we are all many hours into this? I have still only used it a few times mainly when I am overencumbered with a shit load of loot from my travels and need to dump it off at my home in Whiterun. My bloody drawers in that house are over flowing with gems and jewelary. One thing you can say about Lydia, she is trustworthy, I pour all those lovely shiny things into a drawer right in front of her and never has she even taken a single amethyst!

Im thinking I might be less strict now though as I think there is a lot to be said for following a quest line to the end in shorter time periods. I have a whole list of shit going on, half of it I can remember who or what it relates to!

Haha I know the quest you mean. Crazy, eh?

My list of quests is 20 ish, while the number of misc stuff I have to do is about the same. My map is just arrows EVERYWHERE. I keep trying to cut the numbers down but the game just keeps throwing more at me and apparently I don't say no in Skyrim.

@PeteBrant. Perhaps you should've though of that before murdering someone so obviously. What happened to the stealth approach?!

its ok, you can go back eventually

Well...yes..

What I should have done is once they went up to the balcony, is left the building and popped an arrow in her ass from distance, instead I crept up behind her and stabbed her in the back. Unfortunately, her new husband standing next to her noticed. Bah

Or just push a broken gargoyle on her from high and leg it

I'm scared by the thought of DLC in this game. I cry a little bit whenever I bring up the quest menu and see how much I have left to do.

This is the reason why I have only stuck to Whiterun, any time I need to visit another town I quickly do what I need to and come back out.

I don't want to end up with another 25 quests when I have so many to do already.

Just did a bit more research into this and found the following piece of info on a wiki:

If a soul of lower quality is stored inside a bigger gem, simply drop it and re-pick it from the floor and it will be empty, this helps with having to waste black or grand gems with petty souls.

Good to know. :)

On the werewolf front,

Bit miffed that there doesn't seem to be an option to refuse to become a werewolf and close off the quest. I don't fancy becoming one and it leaves the quest open. I demand closure without sucuumbing to lycanthropy dammit!

There's a cure. It's revealed later on in the questline.

Oooh. thanks :)

I thought the same, but it's worth going along with the questline.

I can now cure myself and I'm probably going to, it seems more hassle than it's worth. Sure, you can run fast and twat people out of the way and make them scared - but on the flipside, you get killed really easily and hardly do any damage.

and you have to use the frankly shite 3rd person camera.

Just purchased my first house in Windhelm, got a shit load of dragon scales/bone stored in a chest in Riverwood so running back and forth naked transporting it all. A right chew on.

Edit

Now a fucking dragons turned up as I exited the house in Riverwood and I have non of my Armor or weapons

The Gargoyle over her head on the balcony is loose too and can be pushed off if you make it to the wall above. This also gets you spotted however. I found a corner of the castle wall that was well hidden and shot her from there before pegging it out of the city gates.

spoiler for that spoiler

Unfortunately that seems to be bugged. It never let me cure myself at all. According to this - http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Glory_of_the_Dead - it breaks if you've done any of the dark brotherhood or college of winterhold quests, so you can never stop being a werewolf at all.

Fook. Hopefully they'll sort that out in 1.4 or later, as I'd quite like to lose the curse at some point and get a good night's kip!

reading through it says you can fix it by completing the Dark Brotherhood quests, so will probably do those first

I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned this yet but you can download the beta PC patch on Steam if you opt into the Skyrim Beta option under Settings. Apparently people have seen massive boosts to their framerates and it performs a lot better. Of course as with any beta patch, backup your saves etc etc but it's there should you fancy trying it out on PC.

I'm so pissed off right now. I bought an armoury and bedroom for my house in Windhelm and discovered that the chest downstairs that I had all my stuff in had disappeared. It's no where in the house and the chest in the bedroom is empty. Ive lost about 30 dragon bones and scales, thieves guild apparel and 2 Daedeic weapons (one being the Dawnstar) which I was saving for when i go the Daedric smithing perk.

So now I've have to revert back to nearly an hour ago to re-do a quest and all the smithing I just do cause my most recent saves are after I bought house upgrades.

Edit

Not only that but just gone back to do the quest and the awesome Glass Armor with Destruction perk has been replaced with an Ebony Great Sword of Blaze. I don't use two handed weapons.

Edit Edit

Just been back to the house and the chest is gone again, so basically I've lost it. Fan-fucking-tastic. I'm also only 2 off being able to smith myself some dragon armor, but now have no bones or scales.

Syntax - why are you keeping all those jewels etc and not just flogging them?

I dunno, I dont really have any need to flog them. My enchanted daggers are selling at 500 a pop, so thats giving me more than enough gold. I have never bought a single piece of armour or weaponary as I think you always find better stuff, and the sellers are totally rip off artists.

Only think I really spend money on is arrows/potions/and ignots.

That said I still only have the one house, so I guess when I buy more I will find more to do with my cash.

I played some more of Jebus yesterday. Got him to about Level 14 and managed to get some sneaky throat slicing kills. He's coming along nicely now. Although I did struggle in one cave for a bit when I came across two packs of Saber Cats and Spriggans.

I got a nice new Blade's sword for my efforts though!

I've noticed as well that in smithing, you can't skip across from Dragonscale Smithing to Daedric Smithing. Does that mean I'll be stuck on Glass daggers, unless I find a Daedric Dagger? (even though I still can't improve it twice as much; so the glass will probably be better still).

So far - (55 hours in) - the game doesn't do a good job of balancing up the Stormcloaks and the Imperials. Basically, the Stormcloaks are bloodthirsty racist cunts and the Imperials are noble and good. I'd have liked it to have been a bit more balanced and make the choice a bit more of a moral dilemma rather than a choice between being a crazy rebel terrorist or a noble do gooder.
