Aye, I've got the complete Nightingale armour set that gets you a good defence stat coupled with a light armour perk which gives you another big boost if you've got a complete armour set equipped.

The last time I checked my armour rating was 207 - Although there has been the odd occasion where I've had to run away from a fight, quickly heal then run back in again!

It's worth it though for the attack power - The 2 Ebony swords I've got have an attack of 31 each so when you attack with both together (RT + LT at the same time) it makes short work of most enemies.

Get smithing. You can boost that 31 significantly with the Ebony armour perk, an ebony ignot, and a grindstone.

Is there an idiots guide to fast smithing and enchanting to a decent level? I can see the benefit of doing this stuff but there's no way I'm spending a precious evenings gaming time just doing this kind of stuff over and over...

Ummm... doing the repetitive crafting IS the idiots guide to fast levelling.

If you don't want to do the repetitive stuff you can just use the skill normally?

I haven't dedicated any play sessions to it; whenever I go to a town I just hit the blacksmiths, buy all their iron ingots / ore and leather strips and make some daggers, then take them to the arcane table thing and use all my petty, common etc soul gems. Currently at 99 blacksmithing and 80 enchanting plus about 50k gold from selling banish enchanted daggers to everyone. Has the added benefit of making the more expensive arrows / things like ebony ingots cost neutral as you buy them to give the vendors more gold so they can afford more of your daggers.

Yeah, pretty much the last few pages of this thread!

To recap:

Every couple of days (in game time) go to Warmaiden's in Whiterun, buy their entire stock of iron ingots, iron ore, leather and leather strips, plus turn any wolf/bear pelts you have into leather. Make all of this into iron daggers and leather bracers. That will take approx 10 minutes. Then assuming you have a bunch of filled petty soul gems, nip up to Dragonsreach and enchant as many as possible with whichever of your enchants (if you haven't already, disenchant a bunch of magical junk) increases their value the most. Approx 15 minutes. Then sell all this stuff back to the nice people at Warmaidens and come back when they have more stock or you have more petty or lesser soul gems.

The smithing will level up faster than the enchanting, partly because filled soul gems are more scarce. A good way to fill them is to enchant your follower's weapons with soul trap and let them carry all your empty gems.

Edit: Don't turn it into a massive grind. Just do a few minutes at the end of a play session or whatever. And don't forget to collect animal skins wherever you find them, so whenever you happen across a tanning rack and forge you can turn it all into bracers.

I think Azura's Star only fills with Grand Souls, and the victim has to be non-human. So that's like, mostly really badass things.

I went for the Black Star, which gets filled with a Grand Soul from any human, but only a human.

I think that's right? I just remember thinking the Black Star seemed obviously the better deal and went for it.

I think the Black Star can fill with both, so I've even told. I've gone with the Black Star route but I'm pretty shit against magic so the Daedric fireballs just destroy the fuck out of me so I'm going back to that I'm stronger

See, I want to build up my dual wielding but am worried it will make me extremely vulnerable not being able to block / defend. Plus, that is the trademark technique of Spartacus in the TV show and he was fucking crackers.

Have you offset your dual wielding by getting armoured up like a old, decrepid King?

Nah and I barely ever block (not since I first started I reckon) - just smash them in before they can get you :)

Enchanting's an odd one. It's part of the mage's group, but pure mage is the one character who could do without it.

Except for all those enchants you can get which bolster magicka regen and make spells cost less. The purest mage's spells all cost 1 magicka!!

Argh. Playing this for a while last night... Progressing thesun quest. Was working my way down from a mountain, found a cool statue , did a bunch of stuff and got killed ultimately by an assassin and the game then promptly crashed. I've also noticed a bit more frame drops as usual and my save isnt that big...

I think I'm about 60 hour sinto the game and I have an absolute mountain of things to do. I have around 15 quests, and around another 15 miscellaneous ones. And there are plenty of places I havent been yet. This is an absolute beast of a game and I am utterly hooked. Iv'e completed the Mage college quest line, I'm near the end of the Thief guild quest line and not far off compeleting Dark brotherhood one (I think) Not peeked intot eh Bards college yet..

Quick question about the Dark Brotherhood

I did the bit where you assassinate the bride at her wedding in Solitude. All the guards went nuts and came after me so I legged it. THought if I go off and do and few other quests, they might sort of, you know, forget. Have I fucked up going back to Solitude forever?

For a little while that jarred but now, in contrast to McMond's presumably noble Paladin character, my toon is a fricking badass that does what he wants (mainly making daggers and ignoring the main plot) and killing idiots that stupidly attack me feels like a natural extension of that.

Aye I don't even kill animals, unless I'm in a dungeon/cave or I have no choice everything gets calmed, or soothed.... pretty much everything in the wilderness gets let off scot free, except for bandits. Obviously Nord ruins and their Druegr are my favourite haunt.... Turn undead and then take down with a mighty two handed power attack (only just started with the 2-Handed, was purely Sword and Shield for over 60 hours).

Not stolen a single thing from anyones home, not murdered a single innocent, only had a few tresspasses (quest related), got a few assaults but all accidental. The trespasses/assaults I put down to mistakes I made before I understood my true path.

Interested reading how most people use stealth and bow/arrow, but I just love Sword and Shield - it's like a dance. Shield up, wait for them to attack - bash to interupt then while they're stumbled attack until they regain their feet. Shield up and continue the dance... use calm for crowd control etc. Quite tricky against powerful magic users (getting close to them), but that is where shouts and the shield ability to absorb magic dmg comes in.

You should be ok - Make a save and fast travel there.

If you've got a high bounty you'll be arrested the second you get there.

You can either pay off the bounty (Which will probably be around 1000) or you can serve time in jail (Some skill points will decrease though)

Or you could just wipe them all out.

Murdering people as a werewolf seems to work fine - change to beast mode, kill the mark, high tail it out and lose the guys chasing you, eventually calm down and change back.. and merrily saunter into town whistling all sweet and innocence :)

I suffered from a bug where I wouldn't change back. Was fun for a while as I was kicking the shit out of dragons, but then it got a bit boring.

Quick question about soul gems. I need to start stocking greater or grand gems now as the rest are too small to capture the souls of mages and other human based folks I run into but if I happen to, say, mash up a wolf or whathaveyou or an atronach will their soul take up one of the larger gems?

Basically, I don't want to waste money on expensive empty greater or grands and not get as 'much soul' for my buck.
