Oh blinking heck I've already done that. I didn't read Stolly's post properly and thought he meant he chose the ending to the book, like one of those choose your own adventure thingies  idiot.

The later you do that quest the better, since they climb so slowly later. I leveled up nearly three time when I took the boosts. :)

I know it's been said before, but my god this game is massive. Ive spent the last 3 days trying to free up my Misc quests and feel I've got no where cause of exploring places and messing on with smithing and enchanting. Worth it thought. This game is just fantastic.

I feel that I unfortunately played it a bit wrong though, I should have done more Misc stuff earlier in the game, I think I just ddin't fully appreciate how many there would be I think.

Now I've pretty much finished all of the proper quests, I'm sort of lacking in interesting quests to do. Only so many giants I can be bothered to one hit kill for bounty and so on.

Although having said that, I did just get a good Daedric quest from looting a giants chest after doing a bounty, so maybe I'm being a bit harsh. It's just as I said before, it would be nice if there was a sizeable chunk of something which unlocked after so many hours of play or missions done as a little reward but I suppose that's exactly what DLC is for...

Well this is stupid. I've just started the Break of Dawn quest in which you have to find the Beacon for Meridia. The beacon can spawn anywhere apparently. I had to look it up because they've put in in Rebels Cairn which you can only get access too by doing Red Eagles Fury quest. So I have to do a completely unrelated queste to get access to a cave for another quest.

Lydia - what's the point? No character. No motivation. Just some lassie that follows you about and then gets killed really easily.

I'm using one of the companions now as my bro... May swap him out for the Deadra woman in the mountain above Winterhold though. Both are infinitely more interesting characters than that Lydia...

Again, I recommend Ulgred massively, she's awesome. Give her a two handed weapon and if your in a tight bind shell fly in there and just fuck shit up. Loves kicking the crap out of Dragons too? She's only ever died twice too and those were my fuck ups. One, I shot her with an arrow, the other I shouted at her.

I've now played about 55 hours, am level 40, and I've had a companion I wasn't forced into having at some point for all of about 20 minutes. Did not gel with my sneaky, arrows, flames, run away style of ninja-coward combat at all so I've left it. Now I'm doing a bit more swordplay, I think I need to pick one of these ladies up and show them a good time. Or men. I'm not fussy.

My problem with Lydia is that she was just this random person who appeared. I gave no fucks when she died.

I really really really want Bethesda to focus a bit of character development next time round...

Writing really isn't Bethesdas strongpoint though so I'm not even sure if they could. They are very much world builders so I'd rather they concentrated on developing a more varied range of quests and more interesting things to do in their worlds. Especially concentrate on the combat systems which need the most work, better animations etc. I don't really care about the characters or writing in their games anyway, for me it's all about the journey and what happens and all the other fun random shit that goes on.

It would be a start if they did something like mention the crazy quests you've been on, rather than recite the same lines over and over again regardless of anything else that has happened.

I'm feeling a definite lack of power whenever an NPC reels off a scripted line. Still stuff about behaving myself, I got my eye on you sneak thief, etc. I could execute these bastards with a single arrow to the face, and they're still treating me like a commoner. <_<

It's a shame that there are unkillable NPC's, as I want to see how Skyrim would fare after I've executed every guard, Thane, Housecarl and Jarl (playing on PS3 so I can't mod it).

It's a shame that this game does seem to have clearly been tested in chunks rather than the whole game at once, as thingslike this become glaringly obvious if you play for a while. I can understand the impracticalities of every QA person logging 150+ hours into a game but it really does seem (as do all of the GameBryo games and most RPG's to be fair, Japanese ones too) that the bigger picture is rarely considered.

I suppose the way they react to what you have learned sort of works but it's the little things like guards helping you fight off a huge dragon attack and then instantly say something about how they don't do much any more. It would be cool if your expolits carried across the lands and when you went to an area that you hadn't been before, you could maybe get summoned to see the Jarl, or someone would say 'oh my cousin Dave is a guard in Windhelm and apparently you helped fight off the attack there' or some fairly small connecting thing. Or even when they mention 'sneak thief' or 'hail sithis' or mage blahblah line, that they might even acknowledge that you now run the bloody thing.

I've played about 160 hours or something ridiculous and someone said to me while I was on my way to my house in Solitude (where I'm a Jarl, obv, chief Bard fella, Legate in the Imperial Legion and general Robin Hood figure of the masses) 'Oh, you're new in town' I knew who she was, I've spoken to her before and may have even done a job for her, at the very least I've seen her about loads. Should have killed her.

EDIT: TL;DR: Game is good. Should have more progression.

EDIT EDIT: It should also have buildings that change / get rebuilt etc too

I think I sprinted past the triggers and then boosted.

I don't think you even have to sprint. Just walk past them in the straight line direction of the gate, furthest trigger first, and just as soon as the way is clear hit R2 with the appropriate shout loaded and bobs your uncle

I got past it with a sprint and a shout.

Thanks!

Am now on the next part of the quest. A bounty hunter and assassin appear at the same bit. I've no idea why I have a bounty as I've been well behaved. Anyway, this guy keeps one hit killing me and is getting on my tits. My companion, Farkas, isn't helping much here either - even though he has awesome armour and a glass axe.
