Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

You don't need a guide really, just to experiment with the systems and work out some tricks :)

I'm always itching to get out in the wilds though. I don't really find much enjoyment in standing at a forge or enchanting table clicking on various items in my inventory.

I completely bypassed any home-made weapon building, etc in Fallout as well, because I found that pretty tedious.

I'm all about the action.

Now I'm using the rose staff

I'm level 47, with full Daedric armour and level 90 destruction magic but when shit starts to go down that staff comes out. I wish I could marry it as it is my true love not that bint flogging junk from my house in Riften who never sleeps with me.

I haven't played a videogame this much since the Call of Duty 4. Level 35 and about 45 hours played. That appears quite quick compared to some but I'm just playing my game - my sneak is 85 now (I love rolling around - literally (love that perk) - from shadow to shadow unleashing arrows into faces and the occasional fireballs and so on, though now every time I get out anything else to hit people over the head or stab them I feel like a total pussy) while my archery is in the high 60s and Destruction & Resto are in the 50s. Everything else is pretty weak ass. I really need to get into smithing and enchanting, which I have just started working on.

Are people putting points into Enchanting in their skill tree? Like, all the points? I have a few saved up because I'm not sure where to put them or am definitely not a high enough level. And are you going up the right or left hand side on the left branch? Some of the weapons I've seen on here just make me cry they're so awesome.

I've put points into the following trees:

- Enchanting: enough to get me up to Extra Effect, and boosted so new enchants are 100% stronger. I've ignored the magicka boosts since I don't use magicka

- Alchemy: enough to get up to Benefactor, and alchemy +100%

- Smithing: I've gone up the left hand side to get to dragon armour crafting, and the ability to Smith enchanted items. I can't make my own daedric weapons, but I can still improve them pretty amazingly using my smithing outfit and some blacksmith potions.

I wasn't going to pour points into smithing but last night and this morning I've been on a skill levelling and cupboard clearout and ended up levelling a bunch of times. Since I've already maxed the sneak tree and taken all I really want from the archery tree I though I'd get myself some dragon armour, finally :)

Bear in mind there are also some tricks you can do in terms of drinking a potion to improve enchanting, make some items to improve your alchemy, make some new stronger potions, drink them and make some more powerful items etc etc.

Level 52, 104 hours played.

I had my first fancy-killing-animation of a dragon yesterday. Unless they're an elder I can now get away with charging up to them when they land and twatting them in the face with my sword. This earnt me a final blow that involved jumping on the beast, straddling it's neck and stabbing the firey bastard in the eye.

This is precisely what I'll be doing on my next run through (either as a duel-wielding assassin or a two-handed warrior). I'm thinking assassin as of late tbh. Going all out on the dual-wielding and archery for precision takedowns. I've decapitated enough peeps now, time to slit some throats.

I've recently made decisions in my current game and I'm in a proper difficult situation as to what I want to do also; I can't expand due to spoilers, but it's fucking with my head!

I'm getting to a point now though where dragons aren't much of a challenge at all.

That's what I was thinking, then suddenly I was attacked by an Ancient Dragon that wiped out three quarters of my health with one fire blast.

I find it ridiculous how easy levelling can become. I've just started the College of Winterhold stuff, so decided to focus on magical abilities (outside of Restoration I haven't touched it). Throw on some Master Robes of Illusion I found in a dungeon and decided to try out Muffle. Boom, Illusion levelled up to 19. Wait, that seemed way too easy, try casting it again. Bang, Illusion levelled up to 20. After a quick check it turns out Illusion is a spell that can be cast in any context and it will contribute towards levelling up, which in my mind has made it pip Smithing to the title of Skill That Can Be Levelled Up The Fastest With The Least Amount Of Effort.

*awesome stuff*

Cool dood - so you went up the "middle" of the enchanting tree, if I'm reading that right?

I think I'm just gonna go get married and work my smithing, enchanting and alchemy like a total hippy. I never even take anyone questing. I'm such a death dealing loner. Well tonight, I wage war against the flowers and plants and bugs and stuff. And get a sword and finally start stabbing people up a bit.

He's gone up the route to the left (basically light armour, whereas the right side is heavy armour). You can put one point up the middle like you say, which allows you to modify enchanted items. You would still need to go all the way round for Dragon Armour though as the middle route doesn't connect to anything else.

That's for smithing, not enchanting though :) I went "left" with smithing too.

Whoopsie! Totally ignored the second half of your sentence somehow :D

http://skyrimcalculator.com/ is a great little site to play with while at work btw. I went straight up the middle with Enchanting also (and some to the left because I like having a +frost enchant over the fire one).

Big moment for me last night was eventually getting around to a quest that has sat on my menu for a while about killing a giant, just north of Whiterun. I headed up there, full of trepidation as my only previous run in with a giant was back in my level 5 days where I managed to take refuge from miles away while firing about 30 arrows into him before he twatted me into the sky. This time in my full glass armour and ebony bow (I mistakenly said I had a daedric one before, sorry peeps) and various perks, enchanted items all geared towards giving me a hell of a boost on bows, especially when sneaking. There he was, just standing minding his own business when “whoosh, thwack”! 2/3 of his energy gone. He starts rushing me as I calmly load another quiver before unleashing a second shot that sent him hurtling back about 10 feet stone cold dead before he hit the ground!

Oh yeah!

What are some worthwhile enchanting perks? My enchanting is about 60 now, but I have only taken the first perk which says something like enchantments 25% stronger. All the rest seem a bit rubbish until you get to the very top where they let you enchant two abilities on the one item. My enchantments are generally just okish, if I use a decent soul gem I am normally getting about a 20% boost to the area of concern.

Yep, I went up the middle of the enchant tree. I'm tempted to go up the right as well, having weapons automatically recharge would be pretty fkin amazing tbh.

I've still got no idea how you even get married. Not that I want to particularly. I'm just amazed that in over 100 hours of game time I've not stumbled across it at all. Maybe its because I haven't really spoken to random NPCs since I first arrived at Whiterun, like 80 hours ago..

Hurry up work. Tonight's game night and I need to craft me some armour before I can go adventuring. Ive planned out my setup on a spreadsheet. Will transcript in a bit.

God I love geeking it up so very much.

@syntax. Pile the perks into that first point on enchanting. It makes a massive difference.

My first fortify archery enchants were like +20%, but they're all over 50 now. Ridiculous. Especially with four items with the same enchant - you'll be one shorting giants AND MAMMOTHS in no time :)

All I know is you have to put on an Amulet (of Mara?) then new speaking options open with those you can potentially marry. I haven't done anything like that at all yet.

I spent an hour last night reseting the PS3 every 10 minutes as the game froze up. whenever i tried to save it just locked up, especially if Lydia was moving around in front of me.

That and i appear to have forgotten to account for Dark mages with kick ass lightning attacks. The little fucksers scamper around with me lumbering around after them trying to smack them before their annoying sparkle attack of death has killed me. Meanwhile Lydia goes blundering in, gets a couple of money shots tot he face and spends the next 10 minutes cowering in the corner.

Does following the quest marker not help? I had similar issue with finding an amulet in the Whiterun Hall of The Dead, and thought I'd hit a bug. It turned out the marker was accurate but the amulet was tiny and really difficult to highlight.

Yours sounds slightly different of course, and I haven't done that quest but surely it gives you a quest marker?
