Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Its mad, but I still feel like a bit of a noob in this game yet at 60 hours I can safely say I have played it more than any other in years!

This.

I've played 80 hours (probably twice what I've invested in any other game in 30-odd years of playing) and there's still a bewildering amount to do, and I can't get the game out of my head. I can see this being a 200 hour investment in the end - which frightens me a bit.

I suppose this is what gaming addiction is like - never known a game like it.

I've yet to find a daedric bow. I've found daedric arrows though, and have about 8 ebony bows to keep me going in the meantime. I take it glass armor is the best light armour I'll ever find laying about? unless its possible to be given some dragonscale as a quest reward or something.

No daedric bow here either and only a couple of daedric swords. As for armour I found some daedric and also dragonplate which I stole from

the treasury in Marketh

Same here, although I'm used to it with the Fallout games. I've played Fallout 3 for over 100 hours until I really had done -everything- that you could do in the world. I've ploughed my way through Fallout New Vegas because I grew to dislike it, so I didn't explore as obsessively as I did in Fallout 3 and skipped quite a few sidemissions. But I still managed to play that for something close to 60-70 hours while it felt like I was speedrunning it at times.

that'll be Skyrim then, apart from the roads and mobile/television antennas. natch.

after my ragequit the other day i put it back on and loaded up a previous quicksave and did what i had to do. then finished it. i'm still playing, going through the occasional interesting side mission but for the most part i'm travelling through empty parts of the map. for all the grind and time i put in, it's quite an underwhelming game to be honest. you save the world and everyone is like '...kthanxbye...'. ungrateful fuckers.

Madness in Riften. I gave that elf woman who sells fish a load of teeth for a misc quest and she gave me some gold and a spellbook. I knew the spell so I just dumped it on the ground. Then her and that woman with the axe started arguing about who would get to keep the book, and axe-girl killed her and wandered off.

Then like 2 game days later a courier showed up to tell me that fish-elf had left me 100 Gold in her will despite my littering getting her murdered.

shocking

I'd love to give it a try, but half the population of Riften got wiped out in a mass brawl when someone I was escorting drove the town into a frenzy. I think it started with one of the guards firing an arrow at him, but soon everyone within earshot joined in on one side or another, and it carried on until only my companion was left standing (I just watched the carnage unfold). Can't really afford to lose any more of them! Although I think i got four inheritance payments out of it...

I dropped a few refined moonstone ingots this evening in Riften to see what would happen and Mjoll the Lioness just started icing anyone that thought they would make off with them. I looted the dead bodies, got some nice jewellery to flog, a staff of some sort, then picked up my ingots and went on my merry way.

I got sick of listening to Lydia complaining every time i wanted to give her some stuff to carry.

So she's been sent to sit in my dark bedroom to think about her disrespect and I've employed Mjoll now to be my back up. Except I'm starting to get a bit irritated by her one and only funny story about how the cut purse she was searching for shit his pants when she pulled her sword out on him. I've even sold her sword that i went and found for her and she still won't shut up!

I want a follower that's happy to carry the loot and has more than one funny story.

As an aside i found the light house with the dead family in it last night, i read all of the journals and went to help the father in the cellar ... i felt sad when i found the kids body with the note covered in blood and felt really sad when i found the last body :( No other game has ever made me feel like that.

I stumbled upon that Lighthouse when I was about level 8, and now I'm level 42 and am still lugging that chaps remains around. I tried dropping them but they're quest related. Does anyone know which quest this is, and where to go to activate it? I'm not sure I feel comfortable with the idea of going another 100 hours with some poor dead guy's skull in my backpack. :(

Anneke Crag-Jumper might be right up your street then.

She has been with me for the best part of 70 hours and never complains when she has to carry my stuff. It does get a but repetitive when you heal her and she asks if I am a priest. It's even better now I have given her a couple of enchanted staffs to carry as she dual-wields them and kicks the crap out of normal enemies. I did want to marry her but she was having none of it. Maybe she has seen too much of my bad side. Now I have bought a dog companion as well we make quite the fierce team. I get upset if he dies if I get a bit generous with my mace and have to reload.

I'm trying to progress things with the Companions in Whiterun but I need to run an errand/do a quest for Farkas (the dark eyed guy with the starey eyes that you meet if you go in the front door) and I'm buggered if I know which one of my gabillion incomplete miscellaneous quests it is! And he won't remind me :(. I've whittled away at quite a few misc quests, concentrating on locations nearer to Whiterun but with no success as yet. I think I'd already done something for him (although I cannot completely remember as trhis may have been 90 hours of gaming ago) but I need to do something else . Any clues.... anybody?

I'm currently thinking of setting off for Stoney Creek Cave as my next guess at a misc quest but it looks a bit far away from Whiterun and any other of my discovered locations to just be some random errand for Farkas.

You can select and deselect quests in the menu screen under QUESTS. If you press X on the quest, it should "show on map". Is it called Trouble In Skyrim? If it is, it's a cave clearing quest.

The Thief stone gives you an xp boost on thief based skills - IIRC sneak, lockpick, pickpocket, alchemy, maybe archery too but not sure as its been a while since I visited it. Its one of the first 3 Guardian stones right at the start of the game (Mage, Warrior, Thief)

Alchemy et all are really useful, but as Stiff has said if you level them up early without smushing things a fair bit first you can break the game.

Nah, as stupid as it sounds Archery is judged as a warrior stone skill. So your assassin should head for the lover's stone ASAP. (I recommend the...

Getting pissed up with Sam Guevenne daedric quest and trekking there from Markath

...if you're a freshly minted hero).

Yeah I know about the quest menu and seeing them marked on the map; there's no obvious way to see which quest is Farkas's though. Thanks if it is the trouble in skyrim quest :) - I'll give it a look

The Wiki says the quest for him is randomised and can be almost anything :(

Looks like it is called "Trouble in Skyrim" though.

the animations are one of my favourite things. you breeze into some bandit camp and they're all like '...try this on for size!' - you just walk up to them, give one a full-on power attack and it cuts straight to the animation of you plunging a sword into their head.

I had about an hour yesterday of constant death animations whenever I took someone out. Made me feel like a real badass. I have also now started using the bow a lot more. Level 40 and only now see the benefit of stealthily taking out enemies rather than rushing in all Conan-like.

I just had an interesting glitch, or maybe it's because I'm chummy with the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood ... I decided to clear out a bandit nest to clean up my Misc Quests a bit, so bring my slave and made my way to Nilheim (sp?), close to Ivarstead. We carefully make our way towards the stronghold and end up in the area where two bandits are eating. They acknowledge our presence with few words, but the expected all-out attack doesn't happen. Hovering the cursor over them explains them to be 'guards'. Hmmm. So into the stronghold we go, meet some more people there and they don't mind us being there and stealing the gold from their chests. The bandit leader with the bounty on his head is asleep, I go in stealth mode and twunk an arrow in his gut, draining his life to 5%. He wakes up a bit startled, sees nobody and goes back to sleep again... second arrow and the guy's as dead as a doornail. I then search his still warm body for loot and we make our way out again, once again without any bother from the other people there.

Well, OK. Thanks and see ya around guys!

Why bother reloading? Keep your character 'canon' (ie live with your decisions!) :) kill em all anyway.

I crossed the hundred hour barrier at some point today. Finally did the drinking contest quest. Ended up in Markath.. pretty city! Tried to do one thing, instead ended up going into some dwemer excavation site, clearing out a problem in the hall of the dead, met some dude and did the house of horrors quest.

Oh and I FINALLY found the paralysis enchant. Most excellent. Though it makes me regret taking the top level archery perk now (15% chance of paralyse) need a respec mod!!

What a game. Level 48. I never want it to end.
