I'm currently carrying shitloads of stuff, and don't have enough cash to buy the place in Whiterun yet. Suggestions?

If you are close to 5K sell some of that stuff you are carrying to fund the house purchase?

Also if you do not have yet get a follower who can help carry items for you.

Pivotal combat choice moment...

Currently favouring one handed combat with the support of a shield but part of me wants to become a master of the dual wielding. Is the trade off on defence worth the advanced attacking or should I remain focussed on the sword and shield combo? Also, how does block work when you are dual wielding?

Depends on the enemy really, I usually go Magic & Sword.

Revert back to shield if I think the enemy is tough. Have not tried dual wield yet - can you block with a sword?

That's what I have been doing but I quite fancy going with 2 swords for a bit. No doubt it will lead to multiple quick deaths for me but against the right enemy it might be quite cool :) just dont want to waste perks and stuff on it if it turns out to be a bag of shite.

I have seen my son dual wield with a frost sword & fire sword against enemies - looks cool but I always see him quick-changing to healing to get his health back up. Plus he is eating through soul gems

Pfft, blocking. Combat is all about back-pedalling furiously as you unload arrow after arrow into the faces of oncoming foes, obviously ;)

I think you are using the term 'combat' a bit loosely there ;)

I have to say the sense of power you get from squaring off against enemies toe-to-toe and then finishing them off with a slow mo death animation is brilliant. I didnt think the combat would have as much weight to it but it feels great.

Watching Immortals and then reading The Hunger Games has made me focus on my Archery upgrades though, but I tend to switch to melee when the enemies get too close. Basically, if the bow doesnt take them out before they get close then they at last deserve a few swings at me before I run them through :)

This is my technique, sometimes with the additional add on of firing off two or three sneaky arrows and skiddadling (ideally letting the target(s) chase me stupidly through traps and fire hazards).... and then sneaking back to do it again.

Warning, its less successful against enemies that heal themselves :)

So it is reserved for the purely insane Swordsman who has a complete disregard for his own life... think I will give it a miss :)

Blocking isn't essential if you aren't burdened by your armour; my nord in light armour can quite effectively dodge in and out to deal damage and mix things up with some shouts and high level destruction spells in between.

Actually, if I know there're only a few enemies left I'm usually content to just stand still and let them hack at me while I go about feathering them with arrows. An archer so unfazed by an enemy that they'll calmly ignore frenzied sword-blows to their person, notch their bow, and eliminate them with a single critical strike - that's my Leucippe, that is 8)

(unless that enemy is an enraged giant of course, in which case Leucippe has mastered the art of running Very Far Away)

I've been playing this for almost 18 hours and have only just stumbled across my second dragon. Does that sound about right? I've barely advanced the main story (just been up the big mountain to the bearded chaps) and am about a level 18. I refuse to fast travel, but do allow myself to take the carriages if they're knocking about outside town. Is this likely to affect the number of dragon encounters I have?

Also, Thieves' Guild quest:

Nightingale armour is very sexy.

Re: dragons. I'm still fairly early on in the game and have seen

one about after the initial Whiterun battle.

When, roughly, and without giving too much away, did people feel like they

could take one on? I tried for a while but got battered repeatedly so I gave up. Just couldn't deal any real damage to it.

When it comes to fighting dragons, I've always tried to get an area with a few guards and other people, and let them help me out. I think, so far, I've only beaten one dragon alone, and that involved a lot of running, dodging, switching between archery and swords, and necking potions. Admittedly, it was probably more satisfying doing it that way.

Loving is so far. About 6hours in and just been exploring mines and caves and looting lots of dead people that think they can best me. I've done a few side missions but that's about it. Decided I was gonna use a lot more archery this time round so decided to be a wood elf. Usually I'm all about the hack and slash but wanted to play it differently to Oblivion.

Only complaint I have is that the guards of the towns seem to know all the crimes you commit. So when I stole something In the night and killed someone in the mountains they arrested/chased me when I got close to them.

Is there any way to see how much damage bound weapons do? Archery has been my secondary means of fighting throughout, and I am about 70 in Archery now. I have 4/5 overdraw and the conjuration perk Mystic Binding which means bound weapons do "more damage" though it doesnt say how much more. The only thing I have found online is a suggestion that bound weapons have the same base damage as their Daedric equivalents, which is obviously a good thing. I also have 100 in Enchanting and have some ridiculous + Archery enchants, testing out in the wild my guy can one shot a giant or two shot a mammoth with the sneak attack bonus (3 X damage) and in a fight against a "normal" dragon four arrows took it down while my companion tanked. I guess that is all I really need to know, but this is a Role Playing Game and I want a number!

I think I have figured this out. If you conjure a bound weapon, then go into your inventory and mouse over another weapon then the game will show you how much damage your currently equipped item will do and how much better/worse the item you are mousing over is. FWIW, my character will do 153 damage with the bound bow with his current gear and perks. The best I can do with an actual weapon is 115 damage with an Ebony bow and Daedric arrows, which is 38 less. However, I can add 112 damage to my Ebony bow with a double enchant. I suspect that bound weapons are based on their Daedric equivalents. Now I have actually seen a couple of Daedric items in game it seems they are reskins of the Daedric weapon model.

TLDR: Bound weapons are on a par with/better than the best "real" stuff in the game, with the possible exception of to a guy with 100 in enchanting and a grand soul gem. I would imagine they are extremely powerful at low levels compared to other items, both in terms of damage and the fact that they weigh nothing.

By Talos, I hope I'm almost done with this game! I've been playing it for A MONTH AND A HALF (with a couple of breaks inbetween to stave off the repetition). Every time I think I'll be wrapped up in just one more play session, I have another day to go.

Has anyone else had this: After finishing the main quest, I now get a lot more random dragons. They appear almost every time I quick travel somewhere. To be honest they are potentially screwing up the scripting of my quests.

I was just finishing up by doing the Dark Brotherhood quest line, but now I can't progress. I reach a point where the game always freezes on a black screen. Seriously, anyone who played this in 2011 was a beta tester.

Hmmm I am a werewolf.

Is this good or bad?

I've yet to work that out... I never use the werewolf power. I'll also take this opportunity to moan about the whole 'becoming a werewolf' sequence which was woeful.

I've decided just to keep it. Only thing that I've noticed so far is that I don't get a good nights kip.

Does it just come on uncontrollably? That might be tricky.
