Chill dudes, I can see it's better crafted world than Oblivion, just saying I hadn't stumbled randomly across any dungeons or nifty underground stuff yet.

How is that even possible? There's tons of nifty dungeons. In the early stages of the game, you should be stumbling over stuff all the time.

There are bound to be balancing issues which only widen as you get further in the game, depending on how you've specialised. Pogo, you get dragons more when you fast travel a lot. Presumably you are fast travelling everywhere. I barely see them when I'm on walkabout. You know you can just drop the difficulty for specific encounters. If those Ancients are getting on your tits, you could drop it to easy and thwack them up.

Just a thought Nayson, but could you compare a different bow and check the damage difference? Or wouldn't that help?

Had a brilliant walkabout last night. Made my way to Winterhold for the first time in a terrible blizzard. Came across a Falmer cave and man those fuckers still freak me the fuck out. It's the way they fucking run towards you, and you know they can't 'see' you. Horrible creatures. Also amusingly on the path towards the town I saw two AlAkir warriors, the same two presumably that have been hassling every black woman they see the entire game. A bear ran towards me, I got him in the face with one arrow, almost killing him, then ran back to the warriors to see what would happen. Turns out they fled in terror, the bear swiped one dead and I nailed him before he killed the other dude. The guy didn't seem to mind or even notice his buddy was dead and continued on his way. Several seconds later I see a red blip on the compass, I turn around and a Frost Troll is bounding about. I send a long arrow which catches him in the neck, he's heading for me full pelt and I calmly launch off a cracker of an arrow, which hits right into his third eye, simultaneously killing and paralysing him. The result was he was just sat down in the middle of the path, as if he was deep into watching a movie or something. I checked on the other AlAkir warrior and sure enough the Troll had killed him. Those guys were seriously unlucky.

lol @ Goaty :D

I thought the stuff flying into the air bug was fixed, are you on the most recent version Marcus?

EDIT

try killing guards etc with paralysis weapons, comedy statue corpse to play with (and you can drag them about and pose them up against things)

:)

I've done a bit of that and I think I've been unlucky as I've not found anything interesting. I'm sure it's probably selective memory but in Oblivion you'd be tripping over old dungeons, caves, tombs, entrances to temples, etc all the time. I've found a few standing stones, a guard tower or two and a hut.

My advice would be stick your blue marker in one of Solitude, Winterhold or Riften and go walking. Load up beforehand with a pickaxe and a few potions and you are pretty much guaranteed an adventure. No need to explore any dungeons you come across either, but talk to all the travellers or residents of small settlements along the way.

I wish I could make those journeys again.

Sell all your dragobones and plates- you'll find loads more as you go on and it's probably the heaviest stuff in your inventory. Also get a companion and use them as a portable chest- you can then sell all the extra loot you wouldn't have normally been able to carry.

I desperately need the house in Whiterun to store my stuff. But I'm struggling raise the cash. I've been looting tombs and doing all sorts, but I'm still 2000 short & overburdened with stuff (and its stuff I want to keep)

Any tips for raising money quick?

I still haven't bothered with a house (although I could afford one now) but have stashes in two or three places. I ended up killing the guy who ran the shop in riverwood and seem to be able to use his place for stashing stuff okay. Also the chest on the left at the entrance to the companions hut in Whiterun (I have joined them mind) seems okay too. I did use Lydia as a portable 'chest' for a bit but then got all nervous about it - she then got killed (as far as I know) and I couldn't find her corpse; fortunately I'd emptied her before :)

Protips: You don't need it. Whatever it is you can get it later and easily. Nothing you have now that is heavy is anything you need. Exception: Keep Daedra Hearts. Otherwise travel light. Loot things based on their value to weight ratio and don't worry about leaving shit there. The only things you ever need to keep that are heavy are weapons with particular enchantments you want for disenchanting (learning that enchantment).

Money:

Go buy a bunch of Iron Ingots and get hold of a few leather strips. Make yourself a bunch of Iron daggers. Go to the Jarl's place in Whiterun, disenchant any weapons or apparel you can. Buy as many soul gems (filled) as you can possibly afford and use them to enchant the daggers with the highest value enchant you can. Sell the daggers. NOTE: You will need the speechcrafting perk to be able to sell any item to any vendor. This is very useful to have.

I've stashed a few bits in a cupboard at the Companions place, but I know the game will wipe/remove these if too much time passes or it needs to reset some areas. So it's risky business

It might be better to leave a stash on the ground somewhere. Just keep it away from main thoroughfares so NPCs don't pick up your stuff!

My character married the woman from the shop in Riverwood. Now she lives in Whiterun, and every time I return to stash stuff, she gives me a share of the profits from her shop! Free money!

Plus it means her jilted husband is still toiling away to pay his ex-wife's new wife. He doesn't bear a grudge when I visit oddly.

This, definitely. It's a case of sell, sell, sell in the early part of the game. If you're a natural hoarder, it makes sense to resist that compulsion early on, and get the coin together for a house.

S'okay, I think the bloke isn't the ex-husband but the brother! You're safe from burning in hell for being a filthy adulterer!

As brilliant and believable as Skyrim is I don't think the AI's quite there yet to give you proper organic reactions like that though, is it? It's like when slay a dragon just as it's about to burn a town to the ground, only for a guard to wander up to you with a dismissive "Don't tell me. Someone stole your sweetroll". Improved AI needs to be the next great step in gaming for this reason.

I married a woman who worked in a mine, and took her to Whiterun. Later I recruited her mother as a follower and took her to visit, but the two steadfastly ignored each other.

I didn't even know she had a daughter, she's been my trusted ally for hours now

I've accidentally killed her about 50 times with arrows and chain lightning *fail*
