Can I ask how exactly you do that reliably?

I've set it up so that my sword is on 2, and I can't assign flames as 2 anymore (since the 1.3 patch) - and my bow as 1, and then another combo as "L and R" - and if I press my bow direction twice I get back to my default weapons, but when I switch to my sword it seems to 'forget' my default weapon set from then on...

It only works with two-handed weapons.

For instance I have a bow mapped to left on the d-pad and a greatsword on right. If I have my bow equipped and press left it will unequip it, swapping back to my last one-handed configuration. That could be a pair of spells or a sword and shield, but those items themselves aren't mapped to anything, they're just the last ones I used before switching to an item that required both hands.

Ah, that will be it then SPAGGLEHORN has been in a dungeon killing the undead...will head into a town later, thanks for the advice - so I should use human souls for higher level enchantment? Maybe I need to put some perks in too.

I'm fairly sure my Azura's star is up the spout, I think I've absorbed a mammoth soul while I had it and it's still empty... I'll have to try it again just in case.

Yes a human (black) soul equates to a grand soul (white). I have to say I'm not sure where the soul will go as a priority if you already have empty grand soul gems and black soul gems in your inventory. Perhaps that might be b00dles problem?

Will have to test that out this evening!

Yeah could be that, I'll have to check myself later.

By the Nines, I couldnt play Skyrim or Oblivion like this.

How long does it take you to make love and have a smoke?

Nearing the end of Act 1.., I'm months away from completion. I have dipped into the Skyrim wiki, hence I know it's act 1. The Skyrim wiki is fairly spoiler laden but it explains the game really well and for someone who's not played an RPG since FFVII (and FFVII is fairly linear in comparison to the moder RPGs), I felt a bit daunted at first.

I've visited so many places as most of them are rock formations and giant camps. I like to populate a map in a game like this so I can fast travel strategically. While I'm on my scouting travels, I level up by murdering the local wildlife and the silly weak thieves who seem to be on some kind of a suicide mission... "I'LL GUT YOU LIKE A FISH" - "YEP, OK... FIRE, ORCISH MACE... WHOOP!"

and none of them convincingly make contact with the floor.....

Giants then? bit angry and tough. Won't make that mistake again

I hid on a ledge on a mountain and peppered the lanky twat with arrows until he slumped down dead

I felt quite guilty though as he was just minding his own business, chilling with his snuffleupagus but I ate his toes anyway and nicked his cheese.

Bah, still getting the "slicing your way through a fort full of bandits like you're an invincible superhuman, then you suddenly get one hit killed by a random dude with a crappy sword (as it turns out to be when you spend 20 minutes going through it again and give him more respect that time)". Thought by level 40 I'd seen the last of that <_<

I didnt know there were acts! I've got to the bit in the main quest where I have to track down a chap in Riften who the Thalmor are also after (because of dragons or summat :)) and have no idea how far I have to go to finish the main story. Even though I've played for nire on 53 hours I'm still only level 23  and seem to spend most of my time shifting stuff from one place to the other. I've not bought a house yet (never seem to have the cash)) so I've dumped most of my ingredients (and I have a fuck load) at Delphine's place in Riverwood but also have 'stuff' dumps at Drela's cottage (a witch's hut I found in the middle of nowhere), Redoran's Retreat (once a bandit's cave that I've now made my own) and a random chest in the companions hut (jorrvasker?) in Whiterun. I've visited about 60 locations I think and a huge huge slab of the map is still white snowy blankness and I've still only got half a dozen shouts activated so my dragon slaying could do with some attention too.

Skyrim is such a fantastic place.

I think its on the bottom left of the start button menu. Unable to check properly right now so sorry if that's wrong :P

Pretty sure that was one of, if not the, 1st places I looked. I googled and couldn't find anything either.

Doing the "some guy gives me a random note to get a word of power" misc quests as well as some side ones until they patch the quests that are bugged.

Late-stage Companions question:

How do you

get your lyncanthropy cured? I've become the leader of the companions, I have four of those witches heads, and I cured Kodlak's spirit in the "last" Companions quest. Since then, I've done three dogsbody Radiant quests for the Companions, and just been offered a fourth. It doesn't matter if I talk to Vilkas, Farkas or Aela, no sign of a "cure" quest

"If those Whiterun guards can kill a dragon, so can we!" - Riften guard, standing inside the skeletal ribcage of a dragon he just killed.

"Hey, a cave, I wonder what's in there..." - Lydia, upon exiting said, now cleared, plundered, pillaged and looted, cave. Upon exiting every cave.

".....but I took an arrow in the knee" - Whiterun guard, happily chatting to me about his career-ending injury with an arrow through his throat, and one in his bollocks, that he took whilst single-handedly, almost 'adventurously' killing three bandits.

I love this game. Some of its little foibles only add character.

If you've got more than one head, then - still at the shrine place (tomb of Ysgramor or however you spell it), just plonk another head in the pot and it'll ask if you want to be cured yourself!

Quite honestly, I'd not bother - the benefits (as far as I can see) far outweigh the disadvantages, but the choice is there :)

It's great when the game gives you a timely kick up the backside like that. You think you are cruising along, taking out foresworn from range before they know you are there, using that wonderful dragon shout (Auroa whisper) to see whose still around skulking in a tent or behind a wall, not getting mobbed, pretty easy stuff. Basically nothing in the wild or in large spaces can touch you.

Then you go somewhere like Forelhost, a Norse ruin SE of Riften which has a side quest and a dragon word to find. It's a real wake up call. A high density of traps in really constricted areas - elemental damage, swinging gates, the full works, and hordes of Draugh deathlords all fully equipped with shouts, culminating in a ferocious fire spewing dragon priest. Then at last you exit the place, expecting to get a reward for your efforts, only to find otherwise. Amazing stuff and as far as I know fully accessible to low level characters.

Some more stats:

Locations found - 224

Cleared - 96

Gold found - 693k

Quests completed - 75 (may be understated since the breakdown shows only a couple of thieves guild quests)

Skill books read - 77

Since I have never held more than 300k gold, I seem to have spent a hell of a lot on houses, arrows and training mostly.

Tonight I will progress the main quest for sure.

As for hot keying, my last post was slightly wrong - the way it works is - tap left on dpad to bring up weapon 1, tap left again to bring up a lh / rh combination (which can include a IH weapon), tap right for weapon 2, tap right again from there to likewise bring up the lh / rh combo. So, I will roll with bow, 2h sword/axe and Muffle + dagger as my 3 presets from now on. Only took 160 hours to get that sorted out

I still have 'days spent as a werewolf' in my stats page which doesn't ever seem to go down, even though I've done the 'cure' mentioend above. I don't seem to get the 'you smell of wetdog' NPC chatter and I haven't spontaneously turned at any point so I'm guessing I'm cured but just a bit weird the counter for having lycanthropy hasn't stopped.

At least it's a fairly inconsequential bug I suppose.

Yes that seems bugged and there is some other stat from the combat page which also looks iffy - # of critical hits always = something else.

I have got to level 30 now in the game and have 96 two-handed skill using the Wuuthraal battle axe. Perks and gloves which increase the damage done by two-handed weapons have boosted it up to 93 while my heavy armour is now rated at 133 for the cuirass and 48 for everything else. Unfortunately, so far that seems to make me pretty invenerable. I completed the main quest at level 21 and now everything else is just incredibly easy. For fun I did a save and wiped out all the guards and people from a town with ease. Missions are becoming a bit more thin on the ground now too. At 48 hours play it looks like my experience is coming to an end :(

After killing the dark brotherhood leader and wiping out their group, I am now doing a mission regarding nightmares in a northern town. After that, I might consider starting again but concentrating on magic.

I dunno if this is a bug or what but I'm on the quest where I have to get the Elder Scroll and I'm going in the Dwarven location to where the quest locator is but there's nothing there, it's the bit where there are loads of differing levels so I'm guessing I'm not on the right level but I've been exploring around there for ages with no joy. Anyone know exactly where I have to go?

Just 48 hours play? Nonsense. Also, why oh why did you kill everyone in the DB? If you do start again, join them. As for your current playthrough, have you joined the thieves guild? Have you taken a side in the civil war (admittedly, that one isn't that great)? Have you joined the companions? Have you taken part in a drinking contest? I reckon there's an absolute fuckload of stuff that you haven't seen or done. I only reached my point of "being done" at 162 hours.

I am a badass nord, the legendary dragon born, i slay dragons with ease, i single handedly took down the stormclock rebellion, both the living and the dead flee from the crushing might of my war hammer.... I wake up one night to find I've been kidnapped in my sleep and some woman calling herself the leader of the dark botherhood ordes me to kill a captive. The insult, the nerve! How dare you break into my home and take me away in my sleep, how dare you believe a great warrior, nay, the greatest ever warrior, would entertain the thought of murdering an unarmed captive on the order of someone whose deeds and strength pales to my own. I still carry on my person the contracts that the dark brotherhood placed on my head, whilst i dispatched their assassins i dreamed of the moment of my revenge and now its come. Anger filled my heart at the insult that has just befallen me, pride must be restored, the war hammer is raised, the bitch puts up little fight.

I wipe the dark brotherhood from the face of skyrim, so they would forever remember the name of dragon born and most importantly to know never EVER fuck with him, do so at your own peril.

I have done and completed:

1) The thieves guild chain

2) Did the nord side of the war

3) Become the leader of the companions

4) Done the drinking contest (which lead around all over the place).

5) Done the mage set of missions in the northern town

...and many others I can't think of right now.

As you say, I could have started the Dark Brotherhood quest chain but as they had already put a hit out on me I couldn't be bothered trying to guess which one had the hit out on them and killed her instead which led to ultimately wiping them out. Lost the save now so its gone a bit too far.

I think restarting and trying a different combination might be better now

@Oh Danny Boy - Couldn't have put it better myself

But... but.. you murdered the old lady at the orphanage?

Killing defense-less old ladies makes you feel like a big man does it?
