And yet, 20 hours in, I haven't had a single bug.

I don't even know what the point of these posts is, really. It's like 'hey! You guys with your bugs, you must obviously be playing the game wrong if your copy is sooo broken! Stop playing it wrong'. Or have you unlocked an achievement...?

Fucking shitcocks - I hit the guide button when naming my character. The game jumped out of the naming screen, I'd assumed it took that to mean "accept" - now 4 hours after I've spotted my character is called "Prisioner"

Wank.

So now I'm debating starting over <_<

Start over and call your character "Fucking Shitcocks" That would be amazing!

Don't be so sensitive. Your reading far too much into what maybe genuine people who have been fortunate enough to play without any bugs.

33 hours in and it just got even more awesome - I discovered the run button.

Was chatting to a mate on the phone today who told me that he's level 43 with 157 hours on the clock. Over the course of the call I discovered that he didn't know that you hold the hit button down to do a power-hit, nor did he know that holding down the Shout button did a more powerful version.

There's hope for me yet then!

From what I was reading about the quest last night, the quest tends to trigger when you enter Windhelm on four seperate occasions and then presumably pass by the crime scene.

Tried all that. It's a bug that means it doesn't trigger sometimes.

RE: powerful shouts:

AFAIK all the shouts have 3 levels, but you have to find the words and buy them with Dragon Souls. Once you've unlocked levels 2 and 3 then you hold the button to do the powerful versions.

This is proper noob stuff not to know, but then the game is quite large and it's understandable that people play for a long time without realising something. I did a whole dungeon the other day wearing a Circlet of Alchemy instead of my Dragon Helmet, er oops. I wouldn't be surprised if someone mentioned something and I was like 'oh shit!'. I knew about power attacks for example but it wasn't for ages until I realised you could choose different types of swing using the stick, I just thought it was random.

Fought my first ancient dragon, they look wicked. Still dead in a handful of hits though. I also crafted myself some 40% to sneak and bows jewellery and did a few dungeons as a proper sneak archer. I love sending a witch or draugr flying and then going to inspect where the arrow lodged. "Right through the teeth, yes!" The best shots I think I had were getting a lady caster through one side of the head and out the other as she was sitting and it sort of pinned her into the sitting positon all rigid. The other was when one bandit leader or dungeon boss gets up from a throne to run towards me just as my ebony arrow knocks him off his feet and back into the chair.

Level 46 now, have hit armour cap. Completed a few quests instead of just exploring and making my own fun. There have been a few pretty cool ones. The 'acting' is very much from the emotionless nerd school of human behaviour, but you just have to take it for what it is. The weird put on accents annoy me slightly, I'd much more easily accept US accents if they weren't trying to do a camp Schwarzenegger. And the fact that different people in different parts of the world with different voices say the exact same phrases.

I'm slowly levelling alchemy, and when I get it to 100 (plus levelling some other things so I can level up more for the relevant perks), I'll craft a final set of armour and weapons and see how far I can push it. Not that it's really necessary, everything is a one hit kill pretty much, but to satisfy my stat nerding side.

I have 39 Iron daggers enchanted with Banish/Paralyse that are worth a couple of thousand each which I use to trade for everything I want. I bought the Solitude house and all the upgrades but I still prefer my Whiterun place. Where's the place that Ulfric rules, is it Windhelm? God it's an awful town, I can't stand those rebel hippy idiots anyway, but their town is basically a huge slum. I might put the whole place to the sword at some point.

Have hit major bug which is preventing me from finishing the thieves guild quest.:facepalm: Just when all seemed be to be going well too.

At the very end when Nocturnal appears I get trapped in a small area with no exit and just an unreachable quest marker. I think Karliah is supposed to show up and offer the choice of boons, but she seems to have vanished from the game world entirely - she was not at the thieves guild and is not still where I left her at the end of the bit where you escape from the flooded cave. The other chap you have with you then is also missing.

Totally infuriating.

I'm absolutely loving this game, and even the few occasions where I've had to reboot the Xbox (as it's locked-up) haven't put me off.

Last night I experienced the worst lock-up yet, when the crash was so severe that the only way to reboot the machine was to pull the power cord out the back. Not even the power button on the front of the machine would work.

Haven't had any lock ups, a few obvious bugs and little glitches, a dragon having a proper fit and the game going into stutter mode. I'd hit enemies so hard they've disappeared through walls and I haven't been able to loot quest items.

I save very regularly.

I had a woman challenge me to a fight, took 100gold off me and just sat there ignoring me. When I hit her she tried to kill me.

The good moments have massively outweighed the glitches thankfully so far. The landscapes are incredible, the exploration aspect is great. I've seen a hunter aiming his bow at a rabbit, only to get blasted down a hill by a remorseless fireball casting necromancer who subsequently got felled by a cave bear. I've seen a Sabre Tooth cat stride through the grass towards me, almost on top of me, only to turn and chase a deer. There are plenty of simple touches that help the world feel alive. It's a very different feel from something like Red Dead, but no less absorbing, and there is 1000x the content, even if it does make the Rockstar writing look Oscar worthy in comparison.

I can barely stand the font they've used for the books in game, but I must admit I've read my fair share. It's been about 50/50 terrible shit to quite enjoyable little tales. I want to put those books on my bookshelf in my house in game. I wish you could go further with armour crafting and weapon making, but that's just me. I wish there was more range in difficulty and size of enemies. Dragons and Giants are awesome. If only there were some proper Colossus type creatures you can't even scratch until you hit the later levels. Amazing amount of content in here though, especially for a singleplayer game. I wonder if we'll ever see an Elder Scrolls MMO.

I've got some bugged quests it seems, which is annoying.

The one with stealing Frost the horsie is permanently stuck with the first three tasks all ticked off but I can't meet the bloke at the end of it (I think I confused it as I was doing other stuff with Maven Black-Briar in and around that mission).

Boethiah's Calling is borked for me as well as I can't seem to sacrifice anyone, I've taken Mjoll and a DB Initiate up to the shrine and told them to activate the shrine, wait on the mission marker thing and then hammered them with my mace but they don't ever seem to get 'caught' in the shrine as the wiki says that they will. I even left Mjoll up there for absolutely ages and she wasn't there when I went up with the initiate, no idea what happened to her since... anyone had this?

Still bloody great though and I'm just now doing some misc stuff as I've done quite a bit of most of the guilds and main missions, need to get on with magic now though I think as I'm going to hit the top of my 'main' skills (already 100'd sneak).

Annoyingly, Shadowmere died falling about 10 feet, even though he'd fought dragons and almost an entire bandit camp once and I've previously clambered down much bigger mountains but this one rock I tried to jump down was too much for the little fella. Bless.

<snip great post> I wonder if we'll ever see an Elder Scrolls MMO.

I for one hope we don't ever see it. One of the best things about the game is feeling that your experiences are unique to you. (lets face it, they probably aren't, and everyones got the Dawnbreaker) - but having other "players" wandering around and generally acting like cocks will ruin it for me.

My Archery is crazy powerful now, I don't even need the sneak bonus to swiftly dispatch enemies, and things had started to get a tad pedestrian...then I went back to an old mission to retrieve a Magic Staff I'd misplaced during a drinking binge (couldn't get near it last time as Erandur - Priest of Mara, gawd rest his soul, kept running in, giving it all that and bringing down too much heat on me) - but now with my bow skills I cleared the room with ease and all of a sudden things have gotten very interesting again. I do love this game and its crazy surprises.

Skyrim to have multiple DLC releases, powerful buckets

Game Director Todd Howard was at the Spike Video Game Awards yesterday to accept a well-deserved Game of the Year award for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and he said to Joystiq that the game's popularity has surprised even the development team. "We thought it would do well," he said, "but it has gone above and beyond." One of the surprising effects of that popularity is the many YouTube videos (and "arrow in the knee" references) out there, but Howard says one in particular stood out to Bethesda. "I think our favorite really is putting the buckets on the heads," he laughed. "It was like day two, and we went, what? Do we fix that? Our lead programmer is pissed and wants to fix it, and I said I'm not sure we should. That's one of those where maybe we leave it in."

Howard couldn't yet share plans for DLC, but he says it will be focused on "ways to make the game better, not just have more, because the game is so big. So we're going through ideas right now, and processing everything people are doing in the game, and trying to think of ways that we can improve it." There will be multiple releases (as with Bethesda's past games), but Howard says they "don't have a timetable. They won't be quick, and they'll have a lot of meat on them."

For all of its successes, the one thing Skyrim doesn't have is other players. Is there a chance we'll ever see a multiplayer title, or even an MMO, from Howard and his company? "You can never say never to anything like that," he admitted, "but it's not what our focus is. This type of game is where our hearts are, what we get excited about, and that's what we want to focus on. We don't want to lose that focus and we never want to sacrifice anything in the singleplayer game just to have it be multiplayer."

The Icenhancer graphic mod for Grand Theft Auto IV turns Rockstar's game into something some could mistake for film, rather than a video game.

And now Hayssam Keilany says he is working on a mod to turn the sometimes jagged world of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim into a similar moving masterpiece.

Keilany dropped a few images on his Facebook page earlier this week showing off a much improved Skyrim and hinting at the coming of some mod work.

"More informations tomorrow or later on the forum. If you guys have question about the Skyrim one. Taking a break of GTA4 modding for few days, but still creating textures is kinda long. (trees, grass, etc)"

Just wishful thinking here but id love it if you could fight on horse back. Im loving just running about on foot as when you do get in a fight, the animation of taking your warhammer off your back as the dude's running straight at you is just simply awesome, but id love it if you could play it like Robert Baratheon at the battle of the trident because at the moment its debatable if traveling by horse is even any faster than sprinting.

That's a nasty one, happened to me...

In the flooded cave the two nocturnals can get stuck when they're supposed to exit with you. If you talk to them before it fully floods it's supposed to be ok but I still had to reload tons of times just to get them to exit the cave.

If you leave the cave without them, they get stuck in there and switch from swimming to just walking around and you can't even talk to them. I think Brynjolf or whatever he's called leaves on his own but Karliah can get stuck there which fucks up the the entire thieves guild quest line - if you've gone on and done the Nocturnal bit and Karliah's still in the flooded cave that might be a problem. I kept reloading because I couldn't finish the flooded cave quest because you have to talk to Karliah to finish it. I was set to pack it all in (which I've since done just by getting bored of it) but a quick google showed there was a solution.

Hope you've got a save you can go back to...

All might not be lost, I think I read something about fast travelling letting you reset Karliah's location so you might just have to redo the Nocturnal quest.

So are they supposed to leave the cave with you? The situation is that I did this part ages ago and so the first thing I thought of last night was that they were still in the cave (they're not) or maybe trapped on scenery on the journey back to Riften. So I walked back from Riften to the cave looking for them - no joy there but there are probably alternate routes to check.

I have read on the forums that this seems a fairly common problem but it's totally infuriating since this is the thing I have been focussed on all along. :(:(:(

I do have an earlier save (got hundreds of them actually) and so I went back to that, killed the chap again and spoke to Karliah again afterwards to get the bow. Neither character would leave the cave with me. I haven't gone on to the twilight sepulchre with this save yet, and from what you are saying it sounds like a waste of time - I need to keep replaying this section until they do leave.

I don't really want to cheese the achievement though using this much earlier save which would need redoing all the radiant quests to rebuild the guild reputation as well, but I have no idea if this particular bug will ever be on the "to fix" list.
