Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

No equiptment or weapons degrade, you never need more than one of anything unless you want to have it, in some cases two items with the same description (e.g. "Boots") will look different and you might want to keep both and wear them on different occasions.

Torches have a finite lifespan I believe!

Thank God you pointed that out, I was staring at the picture for ages thinking Where is his face..?

I had already hit the solider once before I took this screenshot. He has his shield raised and is leaning back about to swing his sword, hoping that he will get a hit in before the mace crashes down on top of his head. I can exclusively reveal that he didnt make it and the mace absolutely flattened him. :eyebrows:

I am prettu sure I know what you are referring here, but I always thought they were pools of weirdly coloured blood

Weirdly coloured blood that catches fire? If your blood catches fire then I'd suggest you stop drinking whatever you've been drinking, and don't let Aperture Science experiment on you.

I was actually gutted that there were no pitch black scary caves or dungeons. Kinda makes the kajiits night eye power totally redundant.

Yeah, this was a missed opportunity. Having to fight with a sword in one hand and a torch in the other would've been tense.

Disagreed with the guy on NeoGaf who said that every dungeon should've been pitch-black though.

There's also a magelight spell that creates an orb of glowing light that follows you around for for 60 seconds. I've used that a few times. One time I was using it and entered a little secret crevice bit that had opened to reveal a chest. I looted said chest and turned around to go out and noticed a lever on the side of the wall. It must shut the door! I thought, and decided to use it - mostly to annoy Lydia with my messing about. In the back of my mind I did think "What if I get trapped him here", yet I knew that couldn't happen. The rock door slid back across to cover the hole and at that exact moment my magelight spell snuffed out - because of the way changes to light works with the engine (i.e. when you move around quickly) the whole screen went inky black for about half a second and I actually gasped in terror that I was trapped in the dark! A second later the light level returned to normal slightly and I realised what had happened. I hit the lever again and as I walked past Lydia I tried not to look her in the eye lest she had heard my strangled yelp of terror as I nearly crapped myself in the dark

I noticed that about smithing the other day, unfortunately I'd already started going up the left aiming for dragon as quick a possible but my sneaky stuff I got from the old DB assassin (on the misc side quest) are too cool and my

+35 carrying capacity, improved by the fence

thieves armour I can't really bin either cos I cart loads of 'just in case' tat around....

Then again, once I get two enchantments on everything perk, I should be able to make stuff way better than all of that (I hope).

Yeah man, once you can enchant the assassins gear is pretty much tat (aside from the gloves). Shame as it looks pimp.

I've continued the adventures of my sneaky archer. At first there was the concern of running out of arrows, but with my sneak-skill in the 60's I've taken up a little bit of pick-pocketing. Just gold and arrows for now from various guards. They can spare them. Arrow problem solved.

Thats a suprise. I remember reading an article on how western games are too open and how Japanese gamers prefer more linear games,

and thats why many western games perform poorly in the Japanese market.

It very much depends on the game.

Modern Warfare 3 on ps3 outsold One Piece of all things* (both released on the same week) by 50,000 and sold triple what Ni No Kuni ps3 sold (again released same time). Thats just the subtitled version of the game, not the native Japanese language version. Ok, thats fairly linear as you say, but it does show that western games can make an impact in Japan. New Vegas sold about 50k across both platforms on its release week, which is more than most Japanese developed games manage. Fallout 3 did 30k on 360 during release week, which is quite high, I can't find ps3 figures as that came after.

Some western games seem to be making impact in Japan, but it helps that the bigger ones are published by people like Square (who handle Activision's titles in Japan)

*not exactly a small feat.

Going back to this, Skyrim sold 75,000 copies on ps3 and 37k on xbox. That was Easily enough to get 4th place in the charts just from the ps3 version, behind two Mario games and Monster Hunter. The next new entry after Skyrim sold 30k less than the ps3 figures. Japan confirmed for liking Bethesda RPG's, although MH3, which is a port, sold 500,000 copies that week.

I've encountered an amusing and somewhat unsettling bug/glitch.

Many of the humanoid NPCs that I kill, even after a protracted battle, exchange a parting pleasantry with me as I deliver a killing blow...

"Hello there!" says a bandit as I strike him down.

"Good day to you," says a random thief as I hoist him off his feet, with my two handed sword erupting from his back.

"Can I help you?" enquires a bandit chief...as I sweep her pretty her head clean off her shoulders.

Odd.

I think I'm cursed. Every single Stormcloak prisoner I save, they get eaten by a troll or a wolf or some other beast within seconds of me unbinding their hands :(

I'm only level 6 and the entire game is very confusing to me still. It's an astounding game. So, so beautiful. The tundra reminds me of Dartmoor :)

I'll add to that:

"You shouldn't have come here!" threatens an apprentice necromance as I slit their throat with my fire dagger.

I hope stiff can answer this if no one else can.

He's mentioned an armour cap of 580 a couple of times in this thread - as I understand it it is not possible to block more than 80% of damage with armour which is why this is the cap.

Is this correct? And does this mean that it is possible - with high enough skill (enhanced with enchantments and potions) to smith relatively simple heavy armour i.e steel and have it provide the exact same level of protection as daedric?

I've noticed that when I equip a helmet the various multipliers from the Heavy Armour skill tree rocket it up to the 700s. Obviously I will be experimenting with this myself but wondered if anyone knows definitively. I've been a little disappointed with the designs of the higher level armours and wondering if it was really worth speccing in them at all.

I'm not even sure that Daedric crafting affects my ability to improve Daedric artifacts such as the Mace of Bolag Bal or Dawnbreaker (my weapons of choice). Skyforged Steel or Vald's Lucky Dagger (which can be smithed to a crazy level) offer good alternatives anyway and don't need the perk.

The Darkbrotherhood have finally asked to meet me. I shall meet them. And as I'm a good guy I'll kill them all. Send assasins after me ? Oh yes. You'll be dead.

To make them contact you did you have to...

...kill the orphanage overlord?

I'd like to take on the Brotherhood, but the above wouldn't fit my character.

Think i've just suffered my first major bug with this. Maybe someone can help me out?

I've just started the Night Caller temple quest. You have to follow an NPC. He went into the temple through a door, and i followed. Once inside though he'd vanished, his marker appears to have jumped miles to the end of the dungeon, and i'm now in the temple with no obvious way of getting into the dungeon itself. I can just hear a loud repetitive clanging noise from behind a wall. Its almost as if the NPC was supposed to unlock an area for me. It looks like this quest is fucked, and in turn the Dawnstar location is too. Am i missing something?
