SPAGGLEHORN is sad, Erandur - Priest of Mara is dead.

We were trying to get a special dagger that would help bring life back to the tree in Whiterun, I was creeping around this huge tree trunk when Erandur wandered off, he was really into sightseeing. Next thing I know I'm getting hammered by massive fireballs so naturally I legged it and hid behind a rock for a bit...I could hear Erandur manning up against the enemy, giving it large as was his cockney way, I assisted with some long distance arrow shots and then rushed in. After finally finding my way up and plugging the evil wizard with some more shots I found him, lifeless, face down next to the treasure. A single Dwarven Arrow sticking out of his back...

I'll restore that tree for you old chum and now and then I shall sit by it and think of our adventures together.

You can just dump it all over the floor if you like, and/or then carefully place tables etc if you want using the "move object" button. There are also a limited number of official display options, like bookshelves or weapon stands where it will automatically arrange things. Not many though.

One thing that's really pissing me off at the moment is that Skyrim is unlike Oblivion and Fallout in regards to item placement in your house. I have several "unique items" that I want to proudly display in my gaff, but every time I leave and come back they are randomly thrown around on the floor like I've got a poltergeist or something. (actually knowing this game, it MIGHT be a poltergeist... :sherlock: )

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to why objects get moved about... And sometimes after placing them for a bloody ice age (another minor gripe is that they twiddled with the "look up and it straights up the object" trick of oblivion) - they sit there happily, only for me to walk in and out of the house a few times and THEN they move..

Annoying really... Anyone else having this issue with the 360 version? (House in whiterun, do any of the other houses have this issue?)

Yes, same here. I was trying to arrange some shields on tables or stools in the bedroom but they don't stay put and I come back to find them on the floor (also why can't shields be mounted on wall mounts?).

I'm also having difficulty arranging the gold statues of Dhibella upright. The other bling I am collecting are the red and gold glowing cores from dwarvern artifacts - these do seem to stay put on top of cabinets so far anyway.

As for the cheese, that just gets thrown on the floor in the kitchin so no doubt there is a growing rodent problem in the house.

Most of this is down to your stupid cat hands ;)

Fuck that quest. Damn fireballs totally rape me from afar. I'll go back when I'm bigger I think, or when I actually have some resistances to magic.

I've had no issues at all in the Whiterun house. I have a Troll's skull placed just-so facing the door, and guard helmets from five different towns all lined up. The Solitude house....now there I DID have a problem. A three-story house packed with free stuff decorating the place. I came home after a few days adventuring and put all the stuff I've found on the way in their respective cupboards. Down in the basement I had two naked mannequins so on one I put a full set of Thalmor clothes (taken from a Thalmor wizard who leapt out of some nearby bushes shouting "NOW YOU WILL DIE", and started firing lightening at me. It was like being attacked by Emperor Palpatine himself), and on the other I put on a set of Elven armour along with my adventure's crowning glory, the mask of Daedric Prince, Clavicus Vile. I then got busy restocking my potions for the next day, quit out of the game, and went to bed. Next day I booted the game up and immediately saw chaos around my house; everything decorating my house was strewn over the floor (ingredients, food, goblets, plates, etc). Cupboards had disappeared, my fire in the basement was gone, even my four poster bed had just vanished. As I stood in the basement deciding what to do I looked at the Clavicus Vile mask on the mannequin in the corner and wondered if it was a sense of humour on the developers part that caused this mess or a bug. I reloaded the game from when I first entered the house, dumped all the stuff I was carrying into the cupboards, then went straight to the local blacksmith and sold him the mask.

Since then, no problems.

Oh don't mention Lydia to me. She's still back in Whiterun where I intend to leave her. She pissed me off for two reasons: 1- she never seemed grateful to hold anything her Thane asked her to, and 2- she eats apples so bloody loudly that the sound permeates walls and distracts me from my potion making. So I bought the house in Solitude, decorated it throughout, go to see it and there on the middle floor sitting at a table is another woman who seems to be in competition with Lydia in who can eat the loudest. Not sure how long I can last with this new woman and I'm hatching a dark plan to take her adventuring with me and getting her to fight a dragon alone.

I think I've made a bit of a breakthrough with regards to the PS3 lag issue. I have 7 characters, two around level ten, one at level 20, two level 30 and two level 40. Some of them have pretty large saves, the level 40 characters are over 10mb and they run absolutely fine, no lag at all. The only characters that I'm experiencing lag with are my level 20 Altmer Mage and my level 30 Nord Warrior, who are the only two I've been doing the main quest with. The level 30 nord file lags much less, as he's only done upto being told to visit the Greybeards, however despite having a smaller save file, and being a lower level with less hours played the Altmer file, which is up to the end of act two in the main quest lags horribly.

In contrast, my level 42 Khajit thief has 35 hours played and has finished the whole thieves guild. Doesn't lag at all, unless I load the save straight from playing one of the two which do lag. Turn the machine off and back on then load from the main menu and it's absolutely fine.

How do you people level so fast?

I've played around 95 hours now with my argonian assassin-type and he's only level 31.

Maybe I spend too much time just looking at the scenery.

Oh God, the whoosh, boom, you're dead, retry cycle I went through trying that quest. I might be sneaky enough now to have another shot at that quest, even though I still haven't found any fire resistant items.

Just keep doing what you're doing. The ways that people use to level up quickly are inevitably grinding and make the game sound utterly joyless.

SEVEN!

Have you not slept at all since this came out?

Just made a load of dragon armour; sold/traded for more materials (not that I need them really!)...think I'll stick with my ebony as its stronger. However my orc looks pretty mean in it:

Does anyone make use of all the food available in this game? When I first got the game I was gathering food & making meals but never saw the point what with all the potions you can make or find that improve your health to a much higher level.

I have two characters, one for rising up the ranks in the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood — as well as other morally dubious quests — and a main character for playing through the story and doing everything else.

Naturally the former is your typical rogue type, but I'm actually having more fun with my Dovahkiin, wielding a two-handed sword, a bow when needed and a competence in Restoration magic; being able to refill my health and stamina with a single spell is invaluable. Obviously the swordplay isn't up there with Dark Souls, but there's still a lot of fun to be had by interrupting enemy power attacks and then chopping their heads off in a single stroke.

I'm guessing as your Argonian assassin you mainly use the skills pickpocket, sneak, archery and one-handed. Maybe a couple of others.

I think if you focus on a narrow skillset you'll tend to level up a little slower. I had a set of skills I meant to use on my first character, but then I ended up extending into other things naturally, without perking them. A wider range of skills may mean you end up less specialised at a particular level, but it pays off later on if you want to get past level 50, as you can only continue to level if you have skills that are yet to reach 100.

Is that the one where you've got to fight the hag-thing on a rock island? I think the best thing to do is dispatch of the witches away from the beast, then do your best to get up close to fight. They switch to attacking you with their claws but the swipes are dead easy to dodge. As long as you keep the right distance you can batter them quite sharpish.

I've decided that being a werewolf is rubbish and I hate being forced into a 3rd person view... So I'm going back to an earlier save and just going to continue with the quest. :(

After looting the shit out of my fallen pals body I set off at an absolute crawl back to the nearest town where I intended to sell all his stuff and spend the coin on leather straps to continue my Smithing level grind...got to love them hide braces. After an AGE I saw the roofs of the town below me, but in my desire to arrive managed to fall to me death - maybe it was all that extra weight. As I respawned a million miles back at the tree stump I remembered SPAGGLEHORN is a werewolf, I transformed and sprinted all the way! Being a werewolf is marvellous!

There's a lot of useless guff in the game that could be left out to keep the database to a minimum and free up memory for more things.

Examples:

1) All food, as Karzee pointed out, is pointless - Potions do a damn better job of healing you. So having potatoes, salmon, cabbages, carrots, horker meat, goat meat, different cheeses ... it's all pointless and I'm willing to bet only a minuscule percentage of the player-base actually do anything with them. At least you can make potions with all the herbs and mushrooms.

2) All the containers/cutlery are pointless - Cups, trays, plates, goblets, baskets, you name it. These are all things you can pick up, and frequently accidentally pick up when you simply want to pick up the coins that are in/on them. If you were to go to a house and move everything around, the game keeps track of it, and this adds to the bloated save files.

Have you seen Elseweyr Fondue? That shit is crazy.
