Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I encountered the backwards-flying dragon. Not only was it backwards-flying, but it seemed to be stuck in the air, refusing to land or even to hover overheard to spew fire. When it did spit fire, it was like it was aiming at a level about halfway between it and the ground. At one point it glitchingly floated still enough (at a distance) for me to work out an appropriate height (about an inch above it) to aim for with my bow. I got it down to about 3/4 health this way before it started moving again.

I was ready to give up when I saw it floating still again nearby, this time with a wild Flame Atronach throwing fireballs at it. Between the three of us (me, Lydia and the atronach) we got it down below the point where it would usually crash to the ground. It didn't, though it was obviously trying to, its animations getting more erratic as it spun around in the air. Eventually it wound up at about twice the height a dragon usually flies at - my compass marker showed it to be very far away, even as moving a couple of feet left or right made it veer around the compass. I tried shooting it in the air, eventually managing to hit it, but I saw that its health bar had completely restored. Looks like I'll have to wait for the patch before I can kill this one.

I haven't been following this thread, but does anyone know if there's any downside to finishing the main quest? I was kind of thinking that I'd get merking up Alduin out of the way before I do anything else of note in the game, but it occurred to me that all the dragons might disappear if I do that, and I'd still like to fight them on occasions.

There is a fun movement started on the Bethesda forums to sabotage the PS3 version's Metacritic user score, in disgust at the company's attitude to its fans. I wouldn't normally participate in something like this, but please if you've experienced any problems with the PS3 version, go here:

http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim

and write a negative review. It's gone down from an 8.4 average to 8.1 just in a few hours. They're refusing to recognise anything specifically wrong with the PS3 version, so I honestly feel they deserve this.

I thought the PS3 version had been patched?

You know what though - remember that quest in Oblivion when you went into the painting? I'd LOVE loads of that stuff. Real magic and fantasy...

The patch only worked for about an hour, in a lot of people's experiences. I've had worse slowdown since installing it.

The closest to that I've experienced is the Daedric quests, especially Sheogorath's.

I'm disappointed with how similar the quests are on the two sides of the civil war storyline. What's the point in giving you the option of picking sides if you're going to do exactly the same shit both times?

I'm using:

Val's Crafting Meltdown

Lost Art of the Blacksmith

More Craftables

Xenius' mods

Realistic water

Realistic smoke and embers

Glowing ore veins

Nicer snowflakes

Large address aware

Only Glowing Ore Veins & Large address aware are really useful though. The others are just cosmetic, or a bit cheaty (well, some people might think that. I personally think being able to make ingots from metal objects other than ore is something that should have been in the game anyway).

At the moment there aren't really any essential mods - they'll appear once the creation kit is available. The best ones so far are just fairly minor cosmetic tweaks that you may or may not like. Wood with slightly higher texture quality, slightly more realistic water, faces that are very slightly smoother, that type of thing. Nothing that really makes much difference to the experience.

Having said that, the 'large address aware' one is worthwhile, and supposedly the Scripting Extension mod fixes the non-working resistances bug (I've not tried it yet).

I'm about 30 hours in now and am (still) level 15 although I'm within spitting distance of 16 though. Following a visit to the mages college place I've just helped a mage open up an archaeological site (aka a dungeon) and learnt my 4th shout, although thus far I've only killed 2 dragons so can only use two of them . IAt present I'm 'specialising' in sneaking and archery whilst wearing heavyish armour and using a fair amount of left hand magic and right hand melleeing... if I'm not cowering behind Lydia. I particularly love my spell that throws a fiery demon girl at enemies :)

I have seriously collected so much stuff, a lot of which I'm still hanging onto and have caches stored in about three different places and I'm seriously starting to worry that I'll forget where :).

I'm playing the PS3 version and haven't had any issues apart from a couple of freezes. That said my save files are getting bigger - about the 4.6mb mark right now!

You can just dump it all over the floor if you like, and/or then carefully place tables etc if you want using the "move object" button. There are also a limited number of official display options, like bookshelves or weapon stands where it will automatically arrange things. Not many though.

So. I seem to be getting textures issues. So I clear the cache.

Reload the game.

"This save game was created on a later version of Skyrim. Please download any updates".

So clearing the cache now gets rid of updates?! Surely that shouldn't happen.

What I want to know is where is the outcry from the games media regarding the PS3 reviews/the game crippling bug...

So I had to patch to latest to play. The thing seems more laggy now on 360, and the disc access is constant! Hmm.

Does the last (current) patch fix the 360 texture issues so I can install it? It's going mental now.

Clearing the cache has always wiped updates for games.

I thought the lastest patch - the duff one - sorted out the texture issue. I wouldn't know because I'm still playing it offline directly from the disk, waiting for the next patch to fix the last patch.

Hmm this 1.1 patch - does it stop you using stamina when swinging weapons? I'm using one or two handed weapons, swinging like a crazy drunk with hard/soft/double trigger blows and my stamina bar isn't decreasing?

What the fuck? I'm fannying around looking for treasure using a map for AGES last night, getting pissed off, so I look on YouTube this morning to see where I'm going wrong. There is a chest on the exact place I visited 5 times but there was bugger all there when I was looking! Mildly annoying.

I seem to have become a vampire 8). I had a run in with a couple of vampire types in the hills and then over a period of time I suffered negs to my health then health and magicka along with everyone I met telling me how ill I looked and now... no more negative effects that I can see (but maybe I haven't checked that in daylight?). I don't like the sun rise in the morning for sure and prefer the night :).

I'm actually quite intrigued so it will be interesting to see what happens; thus far I haven't been able to drink any blood or anything but I'm looking forward to be able to :D

I believe stamina only decreases when you power attack.

I've been power attacking and my stamina hasn't been decreasing. Might this be because I took off my ebony helm and replaced with a circlet (not as heavy)?
