Continued Game Updates – This week we released update 1.2 across all platforms, and we’ll be releasing an incremental update next week. We anticipate it will be up on PC first, and then hit PS3 and Xbox 360 later in the week. Among other things, the update will fix issues like magic resistance not calculating properly and the rare, amazing backwards flying dragon. Once the update is released, we’ll share the full release notes.

Sounds like it'll be fixed soon :)

Oddly I've had less crashes since the patch (on 360) and no bugs aside from a dragon flying a bit erratically. Not backwards though, just like it was a bit drunk. God I hope they added drunk dragons to the game.

I've been playing a ridiculous amount now, over 100 hours at least, and I still seem to have tonnes of stuff to do. Out of the "joining a group" quests the only one I have completed was the mages guild (and even then they're still giving me stuff to do!), and I think I'm close to the end of the thieves guild (which has been awesome - so much better than oblivions). I've not really done loads of the companions, the dark brotherhood, the civil war quests, or the main quest, and the bards college has bugged one of the quests so it wont accept me handing it in, which means I cant do any more. Which is annoying. I'm still finding loads of stuff to do, and being given quests. Its incredible really.

I'm loving some of the details they put in. Little notes you find left around and other little tidbits. Like in Riften if you sneak into Mavens home there is a locked room downstairs that

she has been doing the dark sacrement in to try and contact the dark brotherhood!

. Though this then leads to a bit of disappointment as it doesnt seem to let you do anything about it. That happens a few times, I've found notes thinking it would open up topics for me to at least talk to people about, but it doesnt. Like once I got jumped by some bounty hunters and they had a note on them saying who had hired them, which was a guy in solitude telling them to "teach that thief a lesson", so I went pay him a visit, and he acted like he didnt do anything!! So of course I had to kill him. Even if the game didnt technically recognise my vengance, I certainly did. And even though these little details often cant be acted on, I'm still glad they're there because they help flesh out the world so much. I cant really begrudge them for leaving a few things out seeing as put so much in.

Another thing I liked was I kept seeing markings carved onto buildings and wondering what they were. I thought it was just a primitive form of house numbers or something. Then I found a book telling me what they are -

its a form of marking the Thieves Guild use to alert its members to whats in the building. A circle with a rectangle means nothing worth stealing, but if the rectangle has 3 lines in it, it means theres stuff worth nicking inside. There are others too, like warning of something dangerous, or saying that the property is protected by the thieves guild and not to steal anything from there.

I spent almost all my game not knowing what they were and seeing them all over, so it was a real "holy crap thats what they mean!" moment when I read the book.

There is one thing that has been niggling at me. There is talk in Windhelm of murders, which makes me think there's a quest there to find the murderer, but I cant find it. I'm not sure if its because I'm Imperial in the civil war so the Jarl doesnt like me at the moment, but is there something I'm missing there? Is there even a quest for it?

After the patch I decided to roll a new character and make it a sneaky archer. I was planning on retreiving the golden claw and the tablet at the end of the dungeon when I found out that the door with the claw puzzle does not open for anything. No matter what I do, the rings do not want to turn, and i cannot reach the end of the dungeon.

Is there even a quest for it?

Yeah there is, and it's a lot of fun. There's a couple of ways to start it, at least that I'm aware of.

The first time I did it I pick pocketed a key from someone in the house that is next to the abandoned house in the 'posh' area of the city. This key opens the abandoned house and the quest should start once you find something in there. The other way way I'm aware of it starting is hanging around the graveyard or market place at night, after being in Windhelm a few nights already, and you should find a body there.

You're right about the markings too. Little details like that make this game. :D

Had the same bug. Had to go back to an earlier save and re-enter the dungeon - then the 3 wheels spun as they should. Hope you have a relatively recent save...

I'm playing an Imperial thief at the moment and I was out doing a bounty quest when 3 Hired Thugs started attacking me. They were a tough fight and I ended up using a lot of potions and poisons and when I search their corpses I see that it was Arcadia that paid them to come after me.

I'm like WTF! I never stole a penny from her so being pissed off about using all my pots and poisons I sneak into her store at night and rob her blind. I didn't think that fully repaid her so I murdered her in her sleep as well

I have to say I was surprised at myself as I never had any intention of murdering anyone in any play through but because of Arcadia the Imperial Rallick is off to join the Dark Brotherhood.

A mini Falmer, you almost want to take it home and keep it as a pet, instead of turning it into a bloody pulp with the big evil and pointy mace. I do hope someone finds out why this happens and makes it into a mod, one of them coming after you is funny enough, would like to three or four of them chasing me.

I've actually made a mess of this character. I downloaded an Alchemy helper done in excel where you tick which ingredients you have in your inventory and it brings up the most expensive potions you can make in order. Even with just the ingredients I collected around Riverwood I was making potions worth ~100 gold each.

Most had conflicting effects and I'd never use them but I've never seen Alchemy level so fast, I had 30 by the time I finished the first dungeon and then I got my smithing up to 45 with the iron ore I'd collected. Along with sneak and muffle I flew through the levels.

Result is a level 12 character that has pathetic combat skills and it's really tough to hurt enemies now.

Yep, in much the same manner as Whiterun - do some tasks for the residents/Jarl until he makes you a thane.

Cheers! Just bought my new house in Solitude. 25000 gold! Pricey.

Another question. The Civil War stuff, is that kind of separate from the main quest line (like the guild stuff), or is it intertwined? So far, I'm at the point where you can make a decision to join either the Imperials or the Stormcloaks. I've held off on both, as I'm still unsure. Once I've joined one group, does that then completely cut off the quest line for the other group?

Oh fucknuts. After a thirty-something hour experience with a thiefy assassin, I thought it'd be a greater time sink to start another character. Little did I know it would auto save over my previous character. Its little image is even still of that of the last place I left "Bubsy the Khajit", locked forever in a sorrowful window.

Fuck you, Skyrim, you bloated, broken shit.

If you're too lazy to do the 3 seconds of effort it takes to make a manual save file, then you've only got yourself to blame, you idiot. It's not exactly rocket science to work out that the autosaves that have been overwriting themselves the whole time you've been playing might, y'know, carry on overwriting themselves.

I keep getting killed by a falmer and a chaurus. I turn down the difficulty as far as it will go, and I still die. It's obviously not even meant to be a difficult bit, it's just part of a corridor in a dungeon. Probably the most sucktastic I've ever felt while playing a game.

I'm certain I had no pressing need to save at the opening execution, before you're even given the option to alter your name and appearance. I'm also perplexed as to why the same gave icon (PS3) wasn't altered.

Dunno if this has been posted but anyone having trouble with the PS3 version should have a look at this.

Pretty shite if the problem persists, I know they say it's a new engine/toolset. That's bollocks, it's an upgraded engine if anything. But the back end stuff is pretty much the same.

If you made a manual save over a quick/auto save that will get overwritten I believe. The slot is not changed so the system believes it's open to use.

Did you only make the one manual save, or did it overwrite every one you had (I've got about 80... New save every time in case I run into another gamebreaking bug like I did in New Vegas, where the gates to to the strip no longer opened)?

This was my first assumption, although it has never auto saved over the file while I was previously playing. Even with my extremely lax saving habits, hours would go before I'd finally save.

Speaking of lax saving habits, it was my only save, MrPogo. Damn foolish.

In any case, I've decided this is a blessing in disguise. It was taking over my bloody life.

If that stuff's half-way accurate (and it sounds like it is) surely it's just sloppy programming. Is there really any need to log the location of every single object in the game, forever? Just make a quick check if it's very far from its default, and allow it to reset if it's basically where it started. That'd save the game remembering 5 millions brushes up against fruit and cutlery for a start. They can have that one for free.
