It seems to be totally random as to whether or not a follower will equip items you give them. Plus sometimes they will equip it for a time then switch back to their original gear.

Watch out that they don't get disarmed by shouts from draugr or whatever. You'll need to pick up any weapons they drop due to disarm shouts and give them back to them.

Had a fun evening training conjuration, I've been trying to work out how to power level it so I've started entering fights, conjuring a familiar to help, then once the enemy is dead I reanimate them, then kill them again. That way I get two valid conjurations because the reanimated enemy counts if you attack it and it enters a combat mode, and I get a bonus to whatever I use to kill it the second time.

Was wondering what happens if you murder a shopkeeper in the night while they're sleeping? So far I've waited until morning and the shop is locked after normal opening time, will it never open again? I'm killing everyone in town and stealing from their homes and corpses, will the town just be a wasteland when I'm done?

Sounds like you're doing the experiment. Let us know.

Hmmm, companion spoilers here:

So I decided to become a werewolf, entered into the hold where where silverhands are, and when I got right to what I believe is the end of it (with 'the skinner') I figured, "right, this is the moment I use my beast form and rip these bastards to shreds."

What actually happened is they attacked my while I was stuck in the transformation animation; by the time I could move I only had a slither of health left, and was dead a second later. <_< I hadn't saved either, so I'm right back to the start of that dungeon. <_<

Beast form is shit.

Beast form takes some getting used to but I love it. Howling to make people flee, Running after them quick-slashing left and right, before leaping onto their backs, gutting them, then feeding on them to prolong beast form. I've been using it at bandit camps and clearing them out. It's like a mini game to see how long you can keep the form going. Also, I came out of a cave over-encumbered, switched to beast form, and, holding the sprint button, dropped to all fours and ran. All that weight I was carrying had no effect.

Finally got Dragon Plate armour! Feel like a total badass. Annoying you can't make a Dragon Plate sword, I assumed you could. I'm gonna have to spend perks going up light Smithing to get a Daedra sword, aren't I? Or will a glass sword do?

Digital Foundry vs. PS3 Skyrim Lag

Good to see this issue get the coverage it deserves. Bethesda absolutely have to fix it, else future releases on the platform will always be called into question.

It seems to me that Bethesda just aren't that competent on PS3. I played through Fallout 3 twice on PS3 (second time with DLC), and both times after the save file had reached a certain size (around 10MB IIRC) the game became a lot more unstable. Not nearly as bad as this Skyrim issue, but I would get a full system crash every hour and a half to two hours. I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned it since this issue came up.

Note to self, if a dragon attacks near a town don't use big destruction spells, the area effect killed a named NPC, the guards arrested me for murder, and the dragons remains had disappeared when I went to loot it. :(

Annoying when you've got a companion with you too. The big lightning storm one is very useful for taking them down quickly, but it will also target anyone you've got with you and keep striking until they're dead.

Daedric may be a few points better but glass looks cool.

I love the way the game can fool you into thinking you are the Dovarhkiin and need fear nothing or no-one as you stride merrily through the countryside one shotting giants and trolls, and then decides to bring you back down to earth with a bump by throwing you into a room with a mad rotating electricity firing boss who pauses in this destruction only to re-animate her draugh lackeys, not to mention encounters with the highest level vampires who have a really nasty dual shock / ice attack and some way of passing on their disease from range.

I have been spending some time in the old norse ruins on various old side quests and continue to be impressed by the scope of some of them, and then finding the back door opens up onto a stunning vista. Brilliant stuff.

Over 100 hours now and level 52.

Made a glass sword and thought I'd test it out where I was in Whiterun just after making it legendary. Turned around and walked up behind some random guy and hit square.

HIS HEAD FELL OFF!

Think I'll be happy with this for quite a while.

Skyrim Script Extender installed, resistance bug fixed. I can play again! I do love the PC mod community.

Fantastic isn't it?

I also picked up a great little mod that makes ore veins far more visible, it's shocking the number I missed the first time around

That Digital Foundry article, and others I've read including a testimony from one of the developers of Fallout New Vegas, confirms what I'd suspected all along: that the PS3 version is probably permanently fucked with little chance of a permanent fix for the lag issue or its other performance problems.

I'm not too far in so I'm moving across wholesale to the PC version. Turns out that against all expectations it runs perfectly and looks glorious even on my ageing midrange machine. Shame there is no way of transferring my saves but starting again won't be a hardship.

Hopefully the PS3 version will still fetch a reasonable price at trade in. Does anyone know what the best place is likely to be to trade this in? Anywhere doing any particular deals at the moment?

Spoilorz for the civil war questline follow:

I started a new game as a two-handed wielding Nord called Janus. I wanted to run an experiment - what happens if you side with the Stormcloaks and

have Whiterun taken over BEFORE progressing the main quest. So I avoided meeting the Jarl of Whiterun up until the point where I had to deliver the axe of WAAAAR to him from Ulfric Stormcloak.

Boo! Turns out the Jarl isn't interested in declarations of war and only wants to talk about dragons. Boring! It's impossible to deal with anyone other than the initial Jarl of Whiterun for the opening stages of the main quest.

In an act of sweet revenge, for her first mission as my housecarl, I used Lydia to help me claim Whiterun in the name of the rebellion.

This is the first chance I've had to play the game since the patch and my game is fucked, I installed the old exe and patched it but there are tons of other problems I've found and I'm only in Riverwood on this new character.

My controls are screwed. Tab no longer takes me out of menus, I can't select things in my favourites quick menu, R no longer collects all when I'm looting and I when I tried to brew some potions I couldn't exit the damn Alchemy screen.

I plugged in my 360 controller and I exited that way but I can't 'take all' when looting with it either and I can't even assign favourites let alone select them with a controller. Oh and pick axes now seem to be invisible, they are still there and you can pick them up but you can't see them on the ground. The only reason I knew one was there was because I've been through the mine outside Riverwood a dozen times.

Bethesda, you really are a bunch of muppets aren't you? This is only after a couple of hours on this new character as well, I really can't be bothered with this shit which annoys me no end because I was loving the game and had already played 150 hours until Bethesda decided to 'fix it'

I just knew I should have waited 6-12 months until the fans had fixed the game

Probably already answered, but they made ESC the button to exit from menus in the patch.

Has anyone's game not been screwed by the update? I seem to be okay so far, no flying dragons or system crashes after a 12 hour play through this weekend. I keep doing multiple saves though as I'm worried its all going to come crashing down! I'm using one of the release black Elite 360's, it's DVD drive sounds like a bike engine and I've taken to calling it old faithful

Can I "deptach" the 360 version in anyway ?

You can clear the cache by going to the system blade and selecting your memory device and pushing... Y? I think. You'll figure it out.

This will however mean you're back to the vanilla version of the game without the initial update. Debatable as to whether or not this is actually worse.

Someone should really put this sort of info in the first post or something.
