I love the Sanguine Rose. It is my favourite item in the game, and my favourite thing to do with it are stealth kills. Well, distraction kills more like. If I can aggro an archer type and keep him shooting at me and missing then I am laughing. There is nothing better than firing the rose beyond him and seeing a gigantic demon with an five foot long flaming sword stride up behind the guy and absolutely twat him in the back with it. Usually that will kill the guy, and he hasnt got a clue what hit him.

Can you make the Sanguiune Rose better? I just get a knight bloke when I cast it who isn't all that, I'm now assuming it's related to some sort of area of magic I'm crap in (most of them), is that right?

EDIT: Goaty, you use a soul gem on it, press RB in the item menu on any weapon (that has an enchantment on it) to refill it with a soul gem.

Guys, I want to enchant my bow with a soul trap enchantment - but I don't know whether to apply a grand soul gem or not? I'm thinking of just recharging with petty gems frequently, but do I get the option of using a better gem later? Or am I stuck with the charge capacity of the gem I used when I enchanted it? Don't wanna gimp myself for later by only applying the petty one now.

If you enchant using a smaller soul gem, it means the number of uses the item has before it runs out will be fewer. So you will have to recharge it more often, which will get annoying. If you're enchanting gear for your own use, and not for levelling purposes, always use the biggest soul gem you have. When I enchanted my bow I moved the slider down to "if creature dies within 1 second" cos you get way more charges this way, and when you're using multiple arrows to kill something its only the arrow that kills them that counts.

DROWNED OFF THE NORTH COAST OF SKYRIM?

Our reporter from the frozen wilds of the north reports no sightings of the bodies of two unknown Skyrim inhabitants. The only evidence which remains is a threadbare tent on the beach, an empty bottle of wine, a discarded amulet of Mara, two creme tarts, a pair of shoes and a bunch of wildflowers strewn around.

We may never know what transpired here, were the lovers simply drowned together in the freezing waters, or was their a more sinister explanation? Any tracks of human or beast have long been erased by the drifting snow.

If you have any information on this matter or wish to report a missing person please contact our office in Solitude.

Thanks mate. I stuck the slider down and enchanted with a common gem (I think!) which still gave me around 250 charges, which is fine.

Started trapping souls now, which has included a couple of grand souls from giants near Whiterun. I didn't want to kill them, but had a bounty note!

Word of warning to all you adventurers: If you're being chased by a snow bear and big sabre cat thing, don't run into an inn. They follow you inside and kill the guests.

You'll notice I'm wearing different apparel in the second shot. I called a time out and swapped to my dragon armour to kick some arse.

I'm tempted to start a thief type character and totally ignore the main quest and the dragons. Then when they fix the resistances I can go back to my warrior that has so much resistance he laughs in the face of dragons and mages and let him be the dragon born that saves the world.

I take a childish, gleeful pleasure in this game, of running across the banquet tables of any Jarls, or rich types that piss me off. I can't decide if it amuses me more greatly if nobody is around, or if the entire household is having breakfast...

Also, throwing bodies into rivers seems to take up a disproportionate amount of my time. Extra points if there's a waterfall.

I started a new game as a two-handed wielding barbarian Nord. Joined the Companions and keep getting pwned in the last room of the Dustman's Crypt by the Draugr Deathlord. I was still getting (a little) challenged by Draugr Deathlords in my level 45 character's game, crazy that I'm expected to defeat one at level 7 with rubbish equipment.

Sigh.

I forgot to re-install the old exe file so the game would use more than 2gb of ram to avoid crashes after the patch. Now I've just lost an hour of game time on my new character, I could just re-install the old exe and carry on from my last save but I'm not sure I can be bothered.

SWTOR will be out in a couple of weeks and I quite fancy a replay of KoTOR before that, I may just leave this for a month or two until it's patched properly.

This is misleading - you get more charges on a weapon if you enchant with a grand soul gem, true - but once it's depleted it no longer makes a difference. It just has a higher capacity, which means it takes more smaller-sized gems to fully recharge it. But there's no great reason for fully-charging a weapon. If you're going to use petty or lesser gems to recharge it, you may as well use a greater gem to enchant the sword and save grand gems for apparel. Armour and jewellery, unlike weapons, are dependent on the size of gem for determining the strength of the enchantment.

Ended up getting to 99 Smithing last night before tiredness took me. Spent a fortune on materials, and yet also then enchanted lots and sold it back. Net loss of like 6K, but still rocking 25 thousand goldy pieces so it's all good - it's there to spend after all! My enchanting is almost 90 too.

RE: "Throwing" people into rivers/etc - can you actually throw bodies/objects after picking them up (by holding A). My usual ploy is to hold them up then double fireball them as far as I can.

With that enchanting/crafing I've ended up with dual ebony axes, Legenday, with dual fire damage on them. Then I crafted some trinkets to increase my one-handed damage which puts another 50% damage on top of the standard one handed weapons. So they're about 47 damage each + 20 fire damage which is pretty decent. Got to be 150 per double hit with the burning fire damage I'd say.

Of course it's not up there with the sneaking back stab damage, yet that's really for cowardly Cat people who can't have a straight fight ;)

I'm pretty confident Han Solo would be more than happy to do a sneaky backstab. That's classic Han of course, before all the meddling.

Are you calling Han a liar?! :o

Does something weird happen to archery after you get so far away from your target? it seems your arrows just go straight through mobs. Or am I missing the trick to long range sniping?

You need to aim up a bit when further away to take into account the dip on the arrow.

Don't think so. I've tried swinging my mouse as I press the E key to release them, but, yeah, "throwing" is more a case of "dropping", but it's enough to get 'em floating off downstream, or to have them slide over the parapet of a bridge. How long do bodies last? I'd like to think they're all gathering together somewhere. Some huge bandit body dam halfway along a river.

Yeah, there is a limit to ranged hits- I think it has to do with the game engine.

If your close enough to make mobs "fade in" before you zoom in, it works fine - but if you are a little further away you will see the mobs briefly fade out as you un-zoom after firing, so the mob has in effect gone when the arrow reaches them.

This is the first chance I've had to play the game since the patch and my game is fucked, I installed the old exe and patched it but there are tons of other problems I've found and I'm only in Riverwood on this new character.

My controls are screwed. Tab no longer takes me out of menus, I can't select things in my favourites quick menu, R no longer collects all when I'm looting and I when I tried to brew some potions I couldn't exit the damn Alchemy screen.

I plugged in my 360 controller and I exited that way but I can't 'take all' when looting with it either and I can't even assign favourites let alone select them with a controller. Oh and pick axes now seem to be invisible, they are still there and you can pick them up but you can't see them on the ground. The only reason I knew one was there was because I've been through the mine outside Riverwood a dozen times.

Bethesda, you really are a bunch of muppets aren't you? This is only after a couple of hours on this new character as well, I really can't be bothered with this shit which annoys me no end because I was loving the game and had already played 150 hours until Bethesda decided to 'fix it'

I just knew I should have waited 6-12 months until the fans had fixed the game

He is awesome for me. Maybe it is just how he is used, he can tank fairly well so I just let him fight on his own for a few seconds against the bigger enemies (dragons, "elite" mobs in dungeons) before I unleash hell. For normal trash mobs he usually wins and he can take out a bear on his own too, which makes him excellent crowd control when I find myself outnumbered. He really complements a ranged character if used as a way to keep enemies at a distance.

Lydia's getting bloody terrifying now she's dressed head to toe in black armour and duel wielding staffs. Just now I was sneaking along when I heard a growl behind me, followed by a *whoosh-boom*, and turned round to find a flaming wolf corpse hurtling towards my face. Nearly jumped out of my skin, then - as it sailed over my head - saw a smirking Lydia* with her staff of fireballs, looking smug about the way she'd just saved my life from the furry assassin.

*presumably, you can't see her face anymore...

It's not just the dip, post patch something odd seems to have happened with arrows, when I am peppering a guy with them, from close or long range, one out of every four or five arrows just goes straight through without damaging them. It may have been there pre patch but I think I'd have noticed it if it was.

In other news, I killed a frost dragon on top of a crest last night & was moving in to learn my word when a coffin burst open & some bastard hard Mage pops out, almost had my arse handed to me on a plate & had to use all my healing potions to battle through. Cool face mask though & the dragon wall had a full three word shout on it which was brilliant!
